Niezels- I mentioned the part about when he breathes because that was when I noticed it the most in the video, but the rationale I was getting at is what you much more articulately stated- it will improve his gliding.

Thanks everyone for the tips on nutrition.  There is a multisport expo this weekend in town, and I was thinking of trying to get some samples of some things to try- the honeystinger stuff was one of them.  The problem I run into is most of the sports gels/chews/etc. are very fruity, and after a while that does not settle well with me.  I tried a GU gel yesterday (normally don't like GU because for me it's too thick) before riding since I was hungry and didn't have time to eat before getting to the bike shop.  It was the mint chocolate, which actually went over pretty well.

I have been using the Accelerade for many years, and I really like it.  It takes some getting used to (it can have a little bit of an aftertaste from the protein in it) but used it for the Racine HIM last year and it worked well.  I used that, pretzels, and endurolytes on the bike, and endurolytes & water on the run, and didn't have any issues with cramping at all.

I got my workout in this morning- had the half marathon circuit again.  It went much better than last time though!  Taught two classes, and now I'm headed to my 3 hour stats course.  Definetely going to need to stop and get a coffee before class.

Isn't today something?  Like picture day?  I can't remember.  If it is, I will post a picture after class.

MANDOWN - 2012-01-25 11:01 AM im in a tactical mantracking class all week, learning on how to track down your suspect, or lost individuals utiliziing footprints or other evidence left behind, its been some good training so far......

then you would use urban tracking, but thats week 2 , so right now they might get away...

Jenny - I usually live of the course with whatever they are offering sports drink wise.  As far as gels I have used the GU gels (usually strawberry/banana).

For IMWI I am not really sure what to use but am gonna purchase some stuff from First Endurance to try out.  I am gonna try using the EFS Liquid Shot on the bike and run.  I am also gonna try the EFS drink.  I am currently trainging with Perform so I have no issues. https://www.firstendurance.com/nutrition/efs-liquid-shot.html  Supposedly this stuff doesn't have any gelling agents so it helps with digestion.

Also I did hear back from the IMWI RD and they are gonna have Lemon-Lime Perform on bike and Orange Perform on run course this year.

Tim- Thanks for the info!  A friend of mine attempted IMWI last year but had issues with the Perform (he never used it in training) and ended up in the medical tent at mile 8 of the run after losing 15 pounds.  I started using the Perform during workouts, and actually found that it works pretty good for me if I dilute it a little.  (and lemon-lime and orange were my two favorites out of the three!)

So I am pretty sure today was picture day, so here's my picture...since I referenced this little guy in my intro, I'll share a picture of Mojo, our lizard.  He is a uromastyx lizard.  I never thought I would say this about a lizard, but he definetely has his own personality.  He can get moody and mad and hide in his house, and he can try to climb on the glass and dance.  I am allergic to dogs and cats, so unfortunately we can't have those as pets, but lizards don't make me sneeze! Hey Team.

I have been MIA for a day or so - sorry about that - got a few things going on that is all.

Tim - I love the video - you look great doing it all and I can't really comment on much since I don't really have the technical expertise but I think you look great. Now, if you want to load a video of your golf swing - I will fill a page for you Laughing

Sarah - I think you have made a good choice to get the Power meter - keep us posted on your purchase and what you think.

IceMan - can't say anything other than you amaze me

Deb - nice job on signing up for the HIM - way to go.

Coach - loved the bike video.

Mandown - can you promise me you will use your urban tracking skills to come to New York City on August 12th of this year to try and find me just in case I don't make it to the finish line on the 11th? Smile

Jenny - awesome picture, great pet.

On the nutrition front, I thought I would share with everyone that I have signed up for a Triathlon Nutrition class that is being put on by a local physio therapy place here in town. It is tomorrow night for an hour and I am looking forward to it. If I find anything out that is interesting or I think you would like I will make sure to share it with the group.

I will stay with the pet theme - here is a picture of my Golden - had to put her down 4 years ago now - very tough thing to do and I think about her all the time. Her name was Chelsea and she made it to the ripe old age of 15, she was a great dog and I loved her very much.

I hope everyone is doing well - train safe.

KC

I've got the Sigma 2209sTs which I really like. It includes:

  • HR monitor
  • Altimeter
  • Cadence meter
  • Dockingstation to upload data to the computer (extra option)

The only downside is that I have a Garmin for running. So during the race I have to find a solution combining those. Probably will put the watch on before cycling for monitoring HR.

I've got some very cool stuff going on. I decided go and get some support from smart people over here in the Netherlands. Result as of this week:

  • I will be visiting a Fysiotherapist every 4 weeks to check how my body is handling and help preventing injuries
  • A coach will be reviewing my schemes and give advice on how to tweak my schedule based on the log I keep in my schedule

Both these guys having been giving me major tips already. And this is just the first week.

Tim:  Without seeing you on the bike, I've got nothing to offer on fit other than a good fit is critical.  You'll be up and down in aero on Wisconsin though.  Lots of movement.  Lots of chance to change position.  Haven't seen that seat you mentioned.

Honey Stringer:  It rocks.  Great tasting products.  I love the waffles but they are too fragile for the bike.  The bars are great.

Using a product like Perpetulum makes it easier not to worry about the energy drinks.   I take electrolytes (still working on which one and what dose) so Perpetulum and water does me well.  I also cut up Honey Stinger bars and ate them on the ride for something solid.

I went to go see my drummers band last night and didn't get home until 12:45am.  When I walked in the door Myles was screaming so I was up with  him until 1:30am until Josi finally took over.  I had to get up at 5:45am to be at work for some customers from New York coming to do my shop at 7am.  Needless to say I am dragging and wondering how the hell I will get my run in tonight.Frown

My computer is on the fritz do no pic from me this week. I am doing all my posting from an iPad which also means no returns show on my posts, sorry about that.......................... Training has been pretty good this week. Had a tough track night last night with all kinds of exercises between 400s then a long run this morning. I wore my recovery tights all day but the legs are still pretty grumpy....... So this week is the height of my first build week with this crappy BT plan. Next week is a recovery week maybe I will use this week to find something that works better for me.

Video is awesome.  Thanks for that, I needed a laugh this morning.  "This...or this"  hah.

OK, so I have fallen off the map the last couple of weeks.  Crazy at work and home.  Lucky for me last week was a recovery week so the timing worked out well.  Daughter had her first Soccer practice on Weds night so that is the only workout I missed.  Actually I had planned to run from the school but the rain was pouring down, I will typically run in a drizzle but these were those big drops that soak you in just a few moments.  Blah Blah Blah...

My normal easy run last night turned into a short tempo run then straight to a spin class.  Did not expect much from spin but the instructor had scheduled a "time trail" format.  My legs are shot today, thankful that tonight is swimming so my legs can get a little break.  Long run tomorrow and I found a Sunday AM spin group with the local tri club.  Looking forward to this because it's a bring your own bike and trainer and it's 2 hours long.  This should be a big help to me getting ready for some outdoor riding in a couple of months.

Have a good weekend!

Good Morning Team.

I attended that nutrition seminar last night and enjoyed it. I already knew some of it but the presenter is a very accomplished female triathlete and nutritionist and I did take away a few things from the seminar. I guess what I learned is we can never eat healthy enough and when we can, we should and I have to pay closer attention to what I eat. Smile

The next one this place is hosting is a seminar on actual race day nutrition and I am sure that is going to be interesting.

Ok - so I got a short swim in this morning - 1500 meters was all I had time for before I had to get to school, but definitely better than nothing. This afternoon before chiro appointment I am hoping to get a short run in.

This weekend is going to be a write off because I am in another curling bonspiel Saturday and Sunday but I have to be honest, I am looking forward to a blow off weekend before the official training starts. For some reason I don't think my diet is going to be very good this weekend, however I am sure I will be consuming a fair amount of liquids Smile.

If you don't hear from me this weekend - don't worry - I am just on a sheet of ice somewhere tossing 44lbs of granite down sheets of ice enjoying a delicious beverage and ignoring everything I learned last night in my nutrition class LOL.Laughing

Have a great weekend team.
