Bike is one loop.
Run is three loops (ugh!)
And not sure about swim.

Is that all correct?

It's about 3/4-mile up the canal from Lake Woodlands to Town Green Park. I seems like it would have to be just one loop in Lake Woodlands for the swim. There's pleanty of room to lay-out a 1.7-mile loop in the lake. It's over a mile from the bridge the far end!

OK, having route tracker issues.  Can someone track it so we can see the elevation!

i am intrigued by this swim.. had to morph the "google map view" and "satellite view" since the map view doesn't even show the "canal" that connects the lake with town green park.. could be some pretty strong and unique crowd support for the last .4 miles of the swim since that canal is probably only 20-30 feet wide.. disclaimer, this is completely me guessing how this swim will work, but i don't see any other way to get from the lake to town green at 2.4 miles

I suspect that the swim will go to the west of the island rather than to the east like you've got there.  That would be a little easier logistically: straight down the lake, turn around and come straight back up, and then take a right turn into the canal.

It has to. if you look real close (or zoom in) there a dirt path/road connecting the island to mainland. Not something you can swim under, etc. Of course that would be kinda cool if you had to get out and run up and over it, then back in. Won't happen, but it would be fun.

I've heard 3 scenarios.

Northshore south almost to southshore park and back up the waterway

Northshore and 2 loops finishing up the waterway

Southshore heading north for a loop and finishing up the waterway.

I think the first is the most viable.

I agree.  It'll have to go west of the island.  I did this route soon after they announced the race:

Like I said earlier, after talking to Keith at Longhorn, I wouldn't be surprised with #2.

Thought I'd try mapping the run course on mapmyrun, but it's way too confusing for someone that doesn't know the area.  Why hasn't someone else done this already?!?!

Here is a map I made, it is only one loop. http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/us/tx/the%20woodlands/423128831345227479

I really like this run course, very spectator friendly with the bars along the waterway. It also takes you through market street where starbucks and jamba juice is. Probably will be people spectating along at least half of the loop.

I just noticed there is a satellite view option in mapmyrun.com the starting point I have is just to the east of the park where transition will be.

That's how I interpreted it as well. The only thing I think your map missed is the connector back to the waterway for loop 2 and 3. I would guess that we run across transition back to the waterway to begin the next loop.

EDIT: Wait a minute. I read it a couple more times and I think there is a left circular or something off of Woodloch. that will put you back on the waterway running towards the mall down by anadarko and Landrys. That would explain the missing mileage. I will swing by after work and take a look.

Thoughts?

The turnaround near the mall is hazy for me.
  • Right Timberloch Place
  • Right Woodloch Forrest Dr
  • Left On the Waterway
  • Head Toward The Woodlands Mall
  • Turn Around
I don't see how you turn left onto waterway from woodlock forrest dr, then head towards the mall. Unless they mean turn north, and not literally towards the mall. It has been a while since I've been there, so maybe there is a way.

After going through market street, I don't think you go to the waterway to start loop 2 and 3. I interpret it as turning right on lake robins and then right on the trail adjacent to grogans mill. Anyway, this gives a rough idea for how the course will look until they release an official map.

Ok, I gave it a go and I think this is closer to accurate. There is a trolley road that I think they are using to take the left off of woodloch. The route I worked up is 8.7+ which is exactly what you need for a 3 loop course.

X3 - I'm a med rep and drive through the Woodlands probably 3times a week and still need to use my GPS?  The place still baffles me?

I work on Woodloch and you can definitely get onto the waterway from here. However, you have to take a flight of stairs which would make for an interesting addition to the run...and it definitely doesn't point you towards the mall. You can get to the mall if you make a right onto the waterway.
