HUSKRJ didn't message me personally, but he posted all that I had requested - if you want your name taken off, please let me know! Thanks for doing this! Maybe when we get our GPS tracker link you can add that? If not, I can put it on my blog!
Good idea, I will add a column. |

Veteran 129 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I'm #1263, but will be DNF'ing at T2. Got a stress fracture in my right fibula a couple weeks ago. Good to swim/bike, but unfortunately will not be hearing Mike Reily calling my name. Not the way I envisioned my first IM, but I intend to sign up again for 2013 and get some redemption (and hopefully stay injury free). I'll be out there at the finish at the end of the night to help bring everyone home. |

I am already having a hard time focusing at work. I am spending half my day reading past race reports to glean as much as possible about the race. Few questions - where should a strong swimmer start? I think if I get a good draft I should be able to finish in 1:05. Don't mind being in the scrum a bit. I can take it. Also - in the no passing zone at the start of the bike - how long is it and how fast are people usually riding? I'm terrified that everyone around me will want to be going faster and that I will slow them down and ruin their race day. I'll be coming out of the water with most of the eventual KQer's but my bike speed is pretty slow - hoping to maintain around 16.5 mph on the bike. The best swimmers will be lining up just left of the ski ramp. So either fall in behind them or line up just to the right of the ramp. And if you want to have time to pick your spot, get in line to enter the water early. Like 6:15 at the latest. Otherwise you'll be rushed to get in and try to fight through the pack to get up front before the race starts. My last time, I got in line around 6:30 and didn't get in the water until 6:59. |

I've heard from a few people that that may be a decent option for avoiding some contact at the start and throughout really. I would think doing that would just make the first turn harder than it has to be. It seems like you'll have to fight your way to the right to get around the buoy as everyone else is swarming to the left to cut the corner as close as possible. I honestly don't think the contact is as bad as people make it out to be, except for the first 200 or so yards, and again at the first two turns. If you want to avoid the frenzy, line up closer to the shore and swing wide around the first two turns. |

My parent-in-laws are coming up to watch the race and would prefer not to stay in our guest bedroom right next to a 1 month old. I booked someone in the Fairfield West in Middleton and they still have rooms available. The only caveat is there is nothing open on Sunday night, only saturday. Apparently something is going on in the city that starts on Monday morning and has most rooms locked up. |

I have one at the Clarion Suites at the Alliant Energy center. If interested PM me and I'll send all the details. Check in Friday, check out Monday morning. |

Veteran 327 Madison, | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Is there a water station at or near the exit of the swim. For some reason when I get out of the water after a full distance swim I am "take that kids icy and tell him/her to quit whining" thirsty. This is a relatively new development for me, as in the last two full distance swims. |

Otherwise, it's easy to grab on the way out to the bike. |

Master 1411 Lexington, KY | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread What Suzy said. Another option is to put a bottle of drink in your T1 bag and drink that while T1-ing, and then just leave it in your bag when ready to go. Instead of drink, I put food in my T1 bag to eat before I get to/on the bike. |

Pro 9391 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I'm planning to chug a full gatorade, drink a Naked Protein Zone Mango, and eat a banana in T1. I can eat pretty much anything and get on my bike for hours so I plan to load up on a pretty good "breakfast" in T1 to help get ahead on calories. I practiced this on my last century ride/brick and it worked out well. |

Expert 1360 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Contacted Ironman to verify the flavours of gu on course - luckily they are the same flavours as I found online for IMKY and have been training with for the past two months. ?Gu Strawberry Banana Vanilla Bean
Gu Roctane Blueberry Pommegranate Cherry Lime
Gu Chomps Strawberry Orange.
Only flavour I haven't tried is the cherry lime roctane. Not a fan of the Blueberry Pomegranate (have most of a box if anyone is interested). At first I didn't like the strawberry banana, but it has grown on me. Vanilla bean is still my favourite.

Master 1411 Lexington, KY | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread This, to me, is the biggest travesty of IM training and racing. We need to take in so many calories for those long sessions, yet the only things most of us can carry and/or keep down are these sugary Gu-like substances. So many good calories wasted... |

On a side note, I've discovered the Watermelon GU chomps and OMG are they awesome. I can't find them anywhere in town so I've had to order them online. I'll be using them to fuel most of my run. |

Veteran 327 Madison, | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Any recommendations for bike and nutrition set up for the race? ie: 1 water bottle, 1 perform/perp bottle, a bunch of gels taped to the top bar etc. I ask because I have no idea how hard it is to grab water etc from the aid stations. Thanks for the help. |

Member 247 Loves Park | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread My plan is to bring two waterbottles with me on the bike. I will have water in between my aerobars up front and fill it at aid stations. I will then have a bottle below me with a mixture of 7 scoops of Ironman perform, 7 servings of hammer gel and water. I will sip on it throughout the ride. I will also have 2-3 bonkbars and about 6 salt pills in my little box on the frame of my bike or in the back of my jersey. |

Veteran 1019 St. Louis | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I have a bottle between my aerobars that I fill with water, and I'll start the race with a bottle of gatorade in a cage. Toss the gatorade and grab perform at each aid station. I'll grab water and top off my aerobottle as needed. I prefer to eat on the bike and save gu's for the run, so I plan to eat 5 or 6 clif bars, and one honey stinger waffle to pull me out of a funk. I'll start with 3 bars in my shirt pockets, and grab another 3 in special needs bags. |

Champion 7163 Verona WI--Ironman Bike Country! | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Does anyone know the size of the H20 bottles they hand out? 16oz or 24oz? I would like to keep one on my downtube, but I have a really small bike with limited space which means wedging a bigger bottle in there is hard to accomplish. |

Master 1411 Lexington, KY | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I'll be riding with aero bottle between the bars and one on the down tube. Grab 1-2 bottles of perform or water at aid stations depending on how much I'm drinking, which will depend on temps. If 2, one goes on down tube, other tops off aero bottle. Carry choc gels in my trisuit pocket, and fill my bento box with pieces of homemade oatmeal waffles and a cliff shot with part of a NoDoz to take towards the end of the ride. The waffle pieces get eaten early on in the ride to get out of the stomach before the run. 5 Cliff Bars!? |
