A lot of people have asked about writing links for their team or mentor group. So I figured I'd write up instructions for it. Congrats on getting ahead! (I'm behind, but I'll catch up.) HI Fishies... Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend. Mine was pretty good, not too much to tell. Our numbers are looking pretty good considering this was only a half week. I got into the spreadsheet and updated my stats (it's 3200 not 2200). I likely won't get as much per week in the following weeks, so figured I'd try and get ahead a tad. Hey Dee, thanks for the web lesson!! Perhaps one day soon I will try and update my 25 in 25 team stuff. Funny, I just checked my PM's and BrianO had PM'd ME asking on how I did it (which I only survived by remembering your talk about spreadsheets). I refered him to your thread. LMAO - Ive had a couple of those recently too for mentor groups and stuff... The thing is... its not like I can help anyone! |

Especially since your son was injured. No, you sign a waiver for these leagues. All part of the game. It was a knee to the upper thigh. It was an intentional cheap shot moving pick/flagrant push, but the knee contact was incidental. The kid was doing more football than basketball. I let their coaches and the ref know what I thought, but didn't use vulgarity. The one coach did and I told him to watch his mouth. Don't forget to call the league's coordinator/manager. When these things happen in my league I want to know about it. (that's why I love voicemail on Mon mornings - NOT!!) Were the ref's certified officials or just high school kids? Not that it makes a difference (i've had 15 yr olds ref better games than some of the certified officials that get sent out). If you notify the manager (and be prepared with your sons team name, coach name, and game location and time - this all helps the manager know who was refing) at least then you can tell yourself that you've done your part. OFTEN, we (the league managers) don't know about these incidents unless the parent calls. Just be nice and calm on the phone. I'm a coach in our league, but assisted as a scorekeeper. I represent our youth club. The officials were experienced adults (well, after witnessing this game, it was one of the worse I've seen so far). Our team was playing one of the tourney's own team. A lot of pushing, grabbing and shoving was definitely occuring more than what should have been, and the calls were not being made. To make a story short, the tourney co-ordinator was the one who said I should leave. We'll see what happens. If they ask me to not assist anymore, it's not a big deal, but they will get an earful of how unsportsmanlike their own fans and one coach were, along with having refs that were allowing this type of play to occur. |

If they ask me to not assist anymore, it's not a big deal, but they will get an earful of how unsportsmanlike their own fans and one coach were, along with having refs that were allowing this type of play to occur. It is ashame that it seems the coordinator was there and did not do anything to encourage the ref's to take control of the game (often times when we witness a ref in that situation we pull them and then proceed to ref the game ourselves). Which seems is exactly what happened, the ref's lost control. We always tell our ref's in training that THEY are the ones who set the tone for the game and can help control the environment. If they do not call fouls, they WILL lose control of the game. I've even seen ref's make up the call b/c they saw something they knew was wrong out of the corner of their eye,he blew the whistle, and then paused to figure out who the call should be on. Was it the right call, perahps no, but at least he got the point across that the agression on the court wasn't going to happen. Ref's don't always see everything, there's two of them watching ten players, but they should still be able to keep control of the game and use their whistles. It is unfortuate that these situations arise, and as a parent, you DO NOT want to see your child get hurt, but also make sure you keep your cool. One of the worst things I've ever had to experience was 2 yrs ago two teams of 5th grade boys stood courtside crying their eyes out as their parents and coaches went after it on the court. |

MotoQueen 13195 | Subject: RE: Flying Fish D001 - 2008-01-06 5:47 PM So as you know, I've been sick, so I haven't been working out.... BUT I hit the pool today anyway. (Something about falling behind with my challenge goals, ya know....) AND.... drum roll please.... I had THREE personal bests! Three! Without even trying???? Is that bizarre, or what??? (Maybe I need to take more rest days!) Unfortunately, the pool was WAY crowded - and with 400,000 screaming kids. Actually, I think most of the screaming was done by ONE red-headed kid. I think he inhaled twice during a 90 min time period. The rest of the time, he was letting out a loud, high-pitched screech.... Darling little child.... :P I've updated the spreadsheet. Only two workouts so far, so I'm slightly behind where I'd like to be, but I'll increase my yardage a little, so that I can catch up again. Good Job. |
