Subject: RE: Completing vs. Competing
I have only just started, so for now I am racing to complete. My first (only so far) tri I was BOP on EVERYTHING, but I was only just starting. I have hope that I will improve, that I have at least improved somewhat in the bike and swim so I'm looking forward to finding out if I have a little better showing at my next tri in 2 weeks. I want to see continuous improvement in my own performance, and I may never become competetive, but if I do, I think that would be awesome. I mean, I'm 47 now so once I'm 60 I'll be in a different category and maybe I'll stand half a chance with all that training behind me and my competition being older. Or not. In any case, I am having the time of my life.

Just finished my first tri a week ago.  My goal was to complete and have fun.  Despite that mentality, I wanted to do well.  I actually did ok- came in 8 of 24 in my age group and 49 of 277 overall.  My goal now is to continue improving!

My first oly distance is in November (Noosa)......my sole aim is to complete. I am more than aware that I will not have an ideal lead up (travelling to Europe 5 weeks out and return 2 weeks out). There will be other races (with better preparation) in my future though.
