First day when I had planned to ride - that I didn't.  Monsoon like rains this morning so decided to skip my ride in today.

I've got 2 commutes so far this week (5 for the month) and am planning on my 3'rd Friday. Down here, I've had 100* heat for both rides home this week. The first one caught me off guard (only 1 water bottle) and was glad I went through the park to refill it.

Got #7 in and it was a change up today - rain stopped so I decided to ride and I had a cross/head wind all the way to work.

Now you would think that it will be opposite on the way home right?  Well I will believe it when I feel the wind on butt instead of my face!

I can only hope June is much nicer than May was!

i get the same thing. head going to work or coming home. and i work a rotating shift, so you would think taht if i have a headwind going to work on day shift i would have a tailwind going home after nights. but it dosent seem to work that way

I rode Friday, giving me 6 for the month.

Head wind way to work, head wind way home! Oh well what can you do? Just HTFU and ride home right? It stinks!

Yup, and having only one gear certainly makes it worse!

Typically for me, the morning wind is insignificant (< 8mph), but I've had 17-20mph sustained on the way home which has been a mix of cross/head wind. I share my commuting between my fixed gear (with parachute panniers) and my tri bike. Mon, I was on the FG, but took the tri bike the other two this week. It really sucks grinding out 12-13mph on a bike that's geared for 19mph @ 90 rpm.

I rode a little yesterday with a guy (on a P2C) who was doing "wind" repeats. We don't have much for hills around here, so this is how he does his strength training.

Happy commuting.

Day 6 here.  Rained all last week so I didn't get in any rides.  Raining again this morning but likely due to this challenge I decided I'd better tough it out.

Felt like I was Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz commuting today.  Total WIND, and cold temps - not the nicest.  I want to click my shoes and go home

I'm hopping in here, with a twist if you don't mind.  I work from home 3 days a week, so that keeps my commuting down.  But yesterday I went car-free all day... did all of my errands/running around town by bike or foot.  I live in a small town, and I live fairly close to most things, but this was a real mindset shift and I want to keep it up.  It can be challenging, given that I have 3 kids and they will need to be active participants in this, but I think that it's worth it.

So my plan is to commit to being car-free 2 days a week until the snow flies.  For me, that probably adds up to 40 car-free days (which takes me through the end of September... things get a little iffy after that, but I'll try to keep it up longer if possible).

I haven't been looking at the challenges lately (scheduling life and training has been challenging enough). I do think this is an important challenge though. If no one minds, I'll join in the fun. I can look back in my blog for the commute's I've done so far.

I'll let you know what my goal is after I see what I've done so far. Is this a May 1st to Sept 1st challenge or a year long challenge? My final number will depend on that.

Keep on riding folks!

i think most of us are counting beginning may first. but i began all the way back in feb and only have 8 commutes in. my bad! its a personal challenge in my opinion.

We don't have an official spreadsheet but the Challenge was from May 1 to Sep 1.

I am not the OP or anything but feel free to join in and chat along with us.

Car-Free is great - especially if you can get the kids involved in that.  I am trying to think the last time I was car free for 1 day even with commuting!

what ever happened to the OP
