Elite 2443 Athens, Georgia | Subject: RE: Quickstep Team Thread I have come to love riding in the rain. It is hard on the equipment though after riding several days in the rain. Way to ride even though there was bad weather looming. As much as I enjoy riding in the rain, I can never make myself start a ride in the rain. I have found that I don't have bent sprockets. I thought it was bent because when I looked down at it spinning the smallest three looked bent while rolling. A closer look today revealed that the smallest three a spinning free and I can wiggle all the rest quite a bit. I have never removed a cassette but there is a ton of play. Going to break out my handy book I bought and learn how to fix this thing so I can get back on the road. All right guys/girls. Lets get this challenge rolling. I am all about the fun of competition and the inspiration of a challenge but lets win this thing. |

Need the correct tools, chainwhip, etc. Hope it's the sprocket that's gone & not the hub. Daren't think about that. If you need a second opinion from the book try the Park Tool website. Excellent stuff there. http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=48 Fingers crossed for you. Took my cassette off yesterday & put it on spare wheel. I need to adjust wire tension as not quite changing gear smoothly enough. Wasn't stopping whilst trying for PB. |

Don't like having to clean the bike afterwards though. Alright, that was fun. I went out for only 30min, but that was mostly because the rain didn't hold off. So it was 7.9 mi in the rain. Oh, what joy. |

Hey, are you running 9 or 10 speed? It is a 9 speed shimano cassette. When I removed my rear wheel, my cassette just fell of in pieces. The hub looks like it is ok, but the inner teeth that bite the hub are all stripped. Whatever holds or locks the cassette onto the hub is either gone or obliterated beyond recognition. I have no idea what happened. Before Saturdays ride I only had 186 miles on this, my first new bike. I am going to try to get to the bike shop to get this taken care of. I hope it isn't expensive because I am broke right now. Going to ride my old Cannondale "TANK" MTB tonight to keep up with the challenge. MIKE |

I had a spoke connector (by the hub) go on my Mavic Aksium rear (reason for changing cassette the other day). Guy who owns a LBS & arranges our Thursday group ride said for me to bring it in & he'll try sorting it out under warranty. Nice of him. >250 miles on it. Good luck. Don't you find this cycling lark starts to get expensive. Running ~ just need a pair of shoes, shorts & a top if needed.CHR15 TREE - 2008-07-07 5:26 AM It is a 9 speed shimano cassette. Spinning counts but how are you recording your mileage? If I was doing that I would have my target in mins. as I haven't got a computer connected to my back wheel. Not sure what you mean by avg. Are you guessing at your speed? |

Elite 2443 Athens, Georgia | Subject: RE: Quickstep Team Thread Got in another ride. Had to ride the MTB due to mechanical failure and guess what. My dear "OLD" MTB broke too. Well just the front derailer. So I was in the small chain ring for 10.2 miles. I think smoke was coming of that thing at one point. I would not have ridden if not for this challenge so that is a good thing. Crappy that I only got 10 miles in but I will do my best to hit the 300. Going to go put it on the spread sheet. |

Master 1688 ALSAGER, CHESHIRE. UK | Subject: RE: Quickstep Team Thread CHR15 TREE - 2008-07-08 9:02 AM I broke two axles & two spokes on the wheel that came with my 'winter' bike. Upgraded wheel so I could use it with best bike as well. So I've got a 7 speed cassette on a 10 speed hub when needed. All about putting enough spacers on to pack it out. Still managed to break the wheel though. It has been suggested that it might be the way the frame transfers my power to the wheel. Far too technical for my liking. Too many hills IMO.4everblue - 2008-07-07 4:57 PM triguynewbie - 2008-07-07 3:14 PM Yep. Get it back. Sounds as if the lockring has stripped. Hey, are you running 9 or 10 speed?
I had a lock ring work loose a while back. I caught it before any damage was done, but to strip the splines on the cassette/free wheel body is bad. Take the bike back as it is so new, they should do something for you. I have found a 9 speed cassette on a 10 speed hub and visa versa can cause compatability probs. Shimano make a spacer (I forget for which combiantion), without which the cassette cannot be correctly tightened, this could have been the root of the problem??? |

Master 1688 ALSAGER, CHESHIRE. UK | Subject: RE: Quickstep Team Thread Been out today to catch up on the missing planned miles from Sunday. Lots of stopping & adjusting rear mech tension to get gears to change smoothly. Got it eventually. Decided to climb our local hill from the hard route. Known as the Killer Mile. Had never done it on this bike before. Found it extremely difficult on the triple over a year ago. Seemed to breeze up it this time. Even got into 34/25 at the 25% section 3/4ers of the way up. There's no stopping me now. Might make this a regular climb.
Facing back once over the hard bit. Where's the road gone?

Veteran 174 Columbus, GA | Subject: RE: Quickstep Team Thread Hey everyone!! Sorry for the late intro. I've been in Vegas for the last 10 days and just now got back into town. I won't go into all of the details but there definitely was quite a bit of drunken fun going on so...I've definitely got some recovering to do. LOL. I wasn't able to work out all week when I was there because they charge 20 bucks a day at the hotel to use the gym...so I decided to save a bit of money and have a great time in Vegas. Anywho....I got out or my first ride today which was a 13 and a half mle commute. This is my first challenge and am truely a newbie to this whole thing. Not sure how all of the stages and stuff works but you guys feel free to learn me all you know...hahaha. My ride.... My mug.... ;P Pleasure kicking tail with you guys!! |

All you have to do is log your training on the spread sheet. # of riding sessions = # of stages and all have to total up to the amount of time or miles that you have set for your goal. Good luck and lets kick some a$$. |
