1. Year round weather averages 32c;
2. The Red Sea is a great place to scuba dive or snorkel in;
3. The view of the red mountains of Jordan takes your breath away;
4. The yearly Eilat Triathlon;
5. prime training ground for running, cycling and swimming;
6. People pay thousands of dollars to enjoy this town and I enjoy it for free.

What I love about NYC:
You can find anything under the sun at all times
Great restaurants
ING NYC MArathon
Da Bronx !
great clubs............dancing that is
It is considered the Capitol of the world
You can hear 5 different languages spoken at the same time in one train car
The way the city came together during 9-11
Great gyms

I'm a Queens girl myself! -- (Although I now live on God forsaken Long Island) I agree with all of the above and would like to add:

You can find any food from any country.
Our subways run all night long....go out, drink, there's still a way to get home.
Central Park
The ball drop at Times Square
The Met, MoMA, the Hayden Platenarium.....
And my favorite thing about NYC has to be the guys who sell hot roasted nuts on the street in the winter...yummmm!

Good things
1) 4 distinct seasons.
2) Hockey (not the NHL variety, to know my thoughts on the NHL/NHLPA, see the "cup of joe section")
3) Only 2.5 hours from the Rockies. And skiing!
4) A ITU race in our amazing river valley (and this year the world masters games!).
5) A thriving tri community, with a good variety of races that are never so oversubscribed that you have to be registering the first day it opens, or you don't get in.
6) A great volunteer base in the community.

Not so good
1) Winter....
2) Crappy drivers (but they one old guy who hit me did end up buying my new bike)
3) Its 550 miles to the closest Ironman....
4) There's only three 1/2 ironmans in the area (within 75 miles), and all within 5 weeks of each other.
5) Having to go to work to support my triathlon habit, but I guess that would be wherever I live.

Another Shout-out to San Diego. I love....

* Living in a Triathlon Mecca
* Being able to WALK to the new North County Trek store during lunch...it's right across the street
* Watching Michigan football games at 9 am during the fall
* Cafe Sevilla in the Gaslamp
* PB on a Saturday afternoon
* The year-round sunny weather (other than the past 2 months)

What I miss about Detroit.....
* The passion for sports (Lions, Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings, Michigan)
* The great variety of ethnic food....I can't get good Middle Eastern food for the life of me out here. It's hard to even find pita bread!
* You can drive 85 on the freeways and the cops are still passing you
* Cider Mills in the fall
* The first snow
* The first nice day in the Spring (especially on the porch at Dominicks in A^2)

Long Island....

Love:
Proximity to the Ocean and other water bodies (Long Island Sound, and the Atlantic) just a 10 min by bike).
Proximity to NYC, 1/2 hour by train for me.
Best Pizza and Bagles.
Some of the best Sea Food.
Some of the best routes for road biking ( Montauk Highway past Mastic/shirley all the way out to the Light house, 25a on the north shore to orient point).
Not to hot in the summer, not too cool in the winter.

Hate:
The Accent, how anyone can add a w to coffee is beyond me. It drives me up a wall.
Taxes and Property Values (some of the higest in the nation)
Traffic, everyone owns a car here, and it shows.

I know there are other New Englanders on the site; I'm surprised no one has chimed in about Boston.

Love:
You can walk across the city in a few hours yet it contains almost anything you'd ever want to do: world-class symphony, thriving theatre district, awesome green space and arboretum, people-watching on Newbury street.
Living history (there's a 300-year-old cemetary right next to my 35-story office building).
The incredible number of colleges in the area means lots and lots of cool free activities.
Pretty decent and cheap public transportation.
Great running along the river and through the parks and ponds in the area.
Lots of distinct little neighborhoods with local eateries that sometimes knock my socks off.
Close proximity to the Berkshires, Green, and White mountains.
Incredible fall foliage.

Hate:
I HATE BOSTON DRIVERS! Coming from the midwest, this is still a thorn in my side after a dozen years out here.
Everything is so damn expensive. Because I don't want to spend 2/3 of my salary on my mortgage, I keep getting priced out of my old neighborhoods as they get too pricey.

(I'll let someone else get into the sports and the beer ...)

Hope to see you at a race some day....

What I love about Sonoma County, CA:

1) People pay money to come vacation here.
2) Said people pay money to vacation here and ride their bikes here.
3) Summer starts in May and ends in Oct. With not a drop of rain inbetween.
4) Hot days, cool nights.
5) Half an hour from the beach.
6) Three hours from the mountains.
7) 10 minutes from a Redwood Forest.
8) Vineyards everywhere producing some of the best wine to be had.
9) Excellent food to go with said wine.
10) A taqueria on every corner serving authentic Mexican tacos and burritos.
11) An hour from San Francisco.
12) A real, live country atmosphere complete with cows, sheep, llamas and emus. I even saw a camel the other day!
13) Yahoos and Hippies and Dinks and Greens and Republicans and everyone else living in the same area, reasonably well together.
14) Did I mention the wine? What about the apple orchards? Peach orchards? Melons? Plums? Almonds? Olives? Oranges? Meyer Lemons? Hops? Prunes?
15) Being a half-hour away from the ocean means one thing: fresh seafood! Mmmmmmm........ Crab!

Seattle
Subject: RE: What I love about living in ...
Here are a few reasons I love Seattle -

7000 bicycling commuters, with bike lanes and paths to support them all into downtown from allmost anywhere in the Seattle area.

Seeing the water AND the mountains (Cascades and Olympics) on the way into work everyday :-)

Alki beach, the waterfront, pioneer square

Music - all types, arts - lots of galleries and a few great meuseums, and sports - with 2 great new stadiums. Of course, all our teams can get close to a championship, but they never make it all the way.

Getting outdoors is easy! An hour to the snow, 30 minutes to great mountain biking, or 2 hrs to climb a mountain.

And about the rain - it builds character :-) After training in the fall and winter drizzle, you really get motivated to get up run and ride on the nice days. Also gives you a reason to stop by the best coffee place on the planet - Uptown Espresso - during the wet rides.

Dog parks.. lots of dog parks.

It does sound a bit braggy, doesn't it? But I can't help it, I pay an arm and a leg for rent so I can have the right to brag a little:

What I love about living in San Diego (specifically Pacific Beach)
-Walking two blocks to the beach
-Having dozens of great restaurants and bars practically on my doorstep
-Rolling my bike out of the yard with the possibility of a great long ride in any direction I go
-The solitude of Mission Bay on a sunny winter's day
-Watching my puppy play in the surf at sunset
-Nice, laid-back folks--'cept when in their cars
-Not having to get in my car for days at a time--all the amenities are a walk or bike ride away and I work at home
-The Zoo!
-Sunshine, the great motivator

What I miss about Seattle
-The view from the top of Tiger Mountain
-Riding 'round Lake Sammamish
-The North Cascades (Winthrop, baby!) and the Olympics
-My friends, colleagues and family

All in all, I'm happier where I am and all those things will still be there when I visit Sea-town

-The Silver Comet Trail...Best use of taxpayer and private funds for public use EVER!
-The Fabulous Fox
-Cheap airfare to anywhere
-The Varsity

Things I hate about Atlanta

-It's the south
-The traffic

Everywhere else looks better.

Actually it's not that bad, since we do have some of the nicest biking roads around. But if I had my choice, I'd move to central or northern New Hampshire to be closer to the mountains. Live Free Or Die baby! Wooooooooooo!
