ROLL CALL

Looks like we may have lost a few members. I need to know who is still participating in group. Let me know even if you dropped out. I will reopen group. I need folks to keep up logs and post. I want a active group-helping each other. I even need encouragement during long training periods.

I am still in, but won't have anything in my log until I get my cast off.  Hopefully that will be next week, but could be another 3 weeks

I'm still in. Had a frustrating week because I wasn't able to get my swims in. Our pool had a goofy holiday schedule and then work got in the way. I need to win the lottery then I could build my own pool and not have to work. That would be good. Still getting good workouts in but mentally missing some workouts blows!!! Now is the time to get serious for California 70.3 folks.

my pool closed for two weeks during the holidays-thought I was gonna die yesterday just doing a small workout. It didn't help that the water temp was not up after refilling pool. 76 degrees Surprised

1. My first race this season will be the Savannah Sprint Series Triathlon March 29th. I would like to do the Auguata 70.3 Ironman in Oct.

2. I can sand to gain the most with my running. Increasing speed and distance. I can maintain about 6.5 to 7.0mph for about an hour and then putter out.

3. What really motivates me is besides being 31y/o and could steadily gain weight without trying is I feel like I hae lost some of my competitive edge or drive in life. I have always played sports as a kid and then being in the Army was somewhat like being in sports. Now I have been in so long that it seems like there is really not the fun or physical nature to Physical Training.

Looks like we still have a couple of dedicated souls, so lets keep our group small.

Danna-hope he heals quickly. Your family always comes first.

With the holidays over it's time to get our diets back in check. I know we all splurged-so, back to work. I have started making my own homemade recovery smoothies. Mix fav fruits, cup of ice & scoop of whey protein & you have a great recovery drink. Plus saves me lots of $$$$ to by more tri stuff.

My race plan calls for 1 hr swim, 2.5 hr bike & 1hr run on Thrs.Surprised keep me in your thoughts Thurs from about 9AM til ?????

OK- lets have some questions...............

I need a good activity that simulates swimming. I live 35 miles from the nearest pool. All of my training has been done in lakes. Obviously I'm not going to get around to that until late-April at the earliest. My first tri summer was last year so I haven't had to live through a winter training yet. Not sure what to do. Any advice for keeping in touch with swimming without actually having access to a pool?

Wes - Great news! I'm sure that's a relief.

Danna - Sorry to hear about your husband's foot.
I remember seeing an exercise machine that simulates swimming in the back of a magazine (triathlete or runner's world). It looked a little like a nordic track....

Training note - Today I realized how much work I have to do to.
It was the first day the new pool/gym was open. The teenaged lifeguard that hovered at the side of the pool with the foam life preserver should have given me a clue. I know my stroke needs work but come on, was I really that bad? It's going to be a long winter.....

Due to family & work, i've had to rearrange this weeks training schedule for myself. When it happens you just do your best to fit in training and keep on keepin on!

Danna-not sure how to simulate swimmimg. I too have seen ads about some type of swim bands???? I would focus on my bike/run until the temps warm up.

Thanks for the info. Today I sandbagged for 1/2 a day. I'm calling that my workout. We've gone from 5 feet of snow to 20 inches of rain. Today our small community rallied when a mudslide came down and wiped out a home burying the owners. Our town is totally cut of between flooding and slides. It's a day to be thankful I'm fit and healthy enough to help others.

Good workouts for you all today!

Prayers sent your way.

I think sandbag filling/stacking  for a half a day justifies a nice strength workout !!!!

Keep us updated

Danna - Let us know if there is anything we can do.

5 miles running outside tonight. 30 degrees, snow flurries, 20 mph wind, dark...and I had a great time! I love to run!

Danna

I grew up in Puyallup and it seemed like once a year we would get out of school to sandbag. Hope the rivers go down soon and you can get out. Let us know how its going.

I had the worst thing ever happen today. I tore the rear derailler off of my frame. I cresting a hill and was in the largest rear gear and in the small in front and then tried to change to the big chain ring to go down the hill. It seized up my chain and tore the derailler right off the frame. Lucky for me I have a derailler hanger that bolts on and is not part of the frame. It ruined my derailler and one of the spokes on my Spinergy wheels. It sucked.

That bites! Not that it matters, but how far away from your house were you?

5 miles, but I was able to call my wife and she came and got me. Thank God for cell phones, I don't leave home without it. She is always good to come bail me out when I'm in trouble, not that I get in trouble mind you.

I refer to it as the "call of shame". Nothing like bonking or gear failure 10-15 miles from home & having the wife come get you Embarassed. The last time I really bonked hard was about this time last year. Was about 10 miles from home,mid-week,no food,no money,no water & wife at work, Was about 50 miles into a hilly ride with constant head wind in the flats & completely hit the wall. I remember just pulling up to an old closed store and sitting on a curb for about 30 minutes. Regained my composure and muscled home. Collapsed in yard & swore I would never do it again. I ALWAYS try to take extra food/drink mix on long solo rides since that ride.

Been there, done that. I'd much rather have to call someone to help out because of mechanical failure instead of hitting the wall. Which brings me to today's training.

Good news - I had a good 8 mile run this morning.
Bad news - I was still 2 miles from home when my "good run" ended and the walking began. New route, hills took more out of me than I expected. No cell, no food....rookie mistakes.

Has anyone dealt with numb toes when riding their bike? My toes seem to go numb on all of my rides and it makes it difficult to even walk when I'm done. I am going to try some inserts or something similar. I think my shoes are the right size and I've loosened the straps also but it didn't help.

I know it's silly but I can't stand being in last place if I have a choice. Even if it is only in a forum.
