Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() BamaDC - 2009-12-16 11:36 AM Okay. 2009 Season Goals Cool. I figured it would be a good idea for folks to post their 2010 goals so everyone would be able to help our comrades get to where they want to go. And to keep us accountable in case we stark slacking. ;-) My goals for this year: Mercedes Half Marathon: Finish (first attempt), go sub 1:40 Pensacola 5k: go sub 1:40 Buster Britton: Finish top 5% swim, 10% bike, 15% run Peavine Falls Run: Just finish. ![]() And some other races I haven't figured out yet. Training Goals: Bike 2500 miles Run 1000 miles Swim 300,000 yards My biggest races will be the Mercedes Half, Pensacola 5k, and the Alabama Coastal Olympic. Of those I am most apprehensive about Pensacola. I may add some pure biking stuff in later - just haven't found anything that really looks good, yet. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am on my way as I finish typing to pickup and my new Felt B 12 Tri Bike from my local bike shop. It is a Christmas present from my wife. I will try and get a digital picture to post. I am out fitting it with a new Gyros Saros Helment, Pearl Izumi Tri Fly III Carbon shoes, Cateye V2C Computer and I have not decided on the hydration system yet. Man I am pumped. My first ride will be in daylight hours on Sunday to make sure all checks out after my fitting tonight. Could skip my run in the morning and do another bike but I wont being the stickler that I am. Talk to the group later. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry, probably should have posted sooner after I joined... Name: cornfed (but will answer to "Drew") Story: I was on the crew team in college until I injured my knee. Two surgeries later I figured my competitive sports days were over so spent the next 8+ years being lazy and getting out of shape. I decided to run a half marathon last fall to get back in shape. That was the wrong motivation and I didn't really train. I suffered through the race and didn't do anything for several months afterward. In the spring I decided to run a 10-miler (again to get back in shape) and again found that wasn't the right motivation. At some point during the summer I just got feed up with myself. I started running 4 days a week and stopped eating out. A month later running had become a habit and I decided to give the half marathon another shot. I finished all the training and finished the race over a half hour faster than the previous year. I don't have any delusions that I'll be that same guy I was in my early twenties. But I'm active, healthy and my old competitive drive back. Figured triathlons would be fun and different so I started looking into training programs and ended up here. 2009 Races: Baltimore Ten Miler, Baltimore Half Marathon, Cape Henry Running Festival (10 Miler) 2010 Races: Shamrock Marathon -- 21 March Celebration Sprint -- 27 June Nation's Triathlon -- 12 Sept Probably will add some other but these are what I have actually signed up for so far. 2010 Goals: Haven't thought much beyond the marathon yet. Primary goal for that is to finish, secondary goal is to finish under 4:00 and third/stretch goal is to finish in 3:40. Other goals are to swim regularly (at least twice a week) between New Years and March. Training for the spring probably won't start until mid April but I would like to be swimming regularly by then since I've never swam for fitness. Additionally I would like to maintain >30 miles per week running post marathon throughout the year and start biking twice a week over the winter. If I don't get a trainer for Christmas, I'll buy one right after. I haven't been on the bike much since it got dark and cold here. But I'm hoping the trainer will allow me to start getting regular rides in. I'll admit these are rather wishy-washy goals. I tend to focus on what's in front of me (ie marathon). |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good run this morning. Much cooler in Orlando than a couple of days ago. Pushed hard on the last two (8 miles total @ 9:10 pace). Did not pick up the bike last night. Go it all fitted. Shop is putting on all of the accessories (cateye, cages, tape(wanted a different color on the bars). Will be picking up on Friday night. I will be working Saturday so it will be Sunday when I take it out. Hope everyone's training is going well.

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Do you live in Raleigh, NC? B2B I think is in Willmington, NC. My daughter is a senior at NC State and we lived in Charlotte for 12 years before moving down here in Orlando, Fl. We are traveling up to Charlotte next week for Christmas. Signing up for the races is a good accountability measure for yourself! Once they have your money it is hard to say I am not training for this. I used this on myself by signing up and paying for a Half Marathon in Miami in January, A Olympic Distance Tri in April, and a HIM in May. All have my money and now I am committed. So we will all work together to keep everybody in our group focused on doing our best at what ever goal we set! |

Good things about B2B are: the swim is quick cause of the current, Bike is flat, and the Run should be cool. No need to talk about the bad things. |

The marathon plan I'm following right now only builds up to around 35 miles per week. I'm going to try to work some extra easy days because that seems too low to me. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I felt sick this morning and have been fighting a sinus infection for several days and did not want to excercise. But thinking of the post that said just do it and it may turn out to be your best training day so far inspired me to get out there. I ran a 12.67 min/mile which is the fastest mile time I have ran in years and is faster than just the run I did earlier in the week which was 13.25 min/mile. I am proud of myself and I am appreciative of all of your support. Go team BamaDC! |

The general rule of thumb is not to run if you have symptoms below your neck (chest cold, achy/flu like) but it's ok if everything is above the neck (stuffy head, sinus, etc). Just list to your body, which it sounds like you did! |

By 1000 I felt a lot better. At the end (2400) I felt pretty darn good - last 100 was at 1:20. Not bad. Didn't hurt that a bonafide super hot chick was swimming next to me. In my pool the typical female is either a) massive or b) on social security. She couldn't swim worth a darn, but that just meant I got to pass a lot. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Glad you were inspired by just do it. I had no idea you were sick and like others would be careful pushing yourself when your sick. My post was more on the days we all have when you wake up and say Man I don't feel it today and at that moment make a decision to go or no go. Any way it is great you had such a great work out. I picked up my new Felt B12 last night. I wanted to ride this morning but it was raining here and decided I would go and run tonight and ride Saturday afternoon. The bike looks great. I will take some pictures and post this weekend. I ended up just getting behind the seat bottle cages for now on hydration. May look at something different when I get into tri season next year. Hope the groups training is going well. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yep, been in Raleigh for about 11 years. Moved here from Wilmington after college. I'll be in Charlotte this weekend for the Panthers game. I'm actually a huge Tarheel fan, but I won't hold it against you sending your kid to State. After all, they did luck out and beat the Heels this football season. If you ever come to Raleigh to visit your daughter, let me know, we'll get a ride in or something! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I will. She is a runner and we have done several runs on the campus and one around a lake but can't remember the name. Looking foward to going Charlotte next week for the holidays. Truth be told I like UNC as well. I really want Butch Davis to get something going there with the football program. I took a little grief at the start of Football season this year because I had my wife pick me up some UNC shirts and hats. My daughter gave the oldman a hard time. I like both programs but have always been partial to UNC. I have a trip planned May 14th up there. She is graduating on May 15th. I then fly back to Orlando and do the Florida 70.3 at Disney on the 16th. |
