More time than I want to give to a job. Plus I've learned that programmers can make as much as a doctor. I like my job. Different strokes for different folks. With the Obama health plan, programmers will probably make more than doctors now! Oh god, I just didn't bring politics into this discussion? Yes you did. And I think its a sad situation (that doctors will get paid less than programmers). Doctors deserve every penny they get. You couldn't pay me to be a doctor. I don't think most people would be willing to put in the time and take on the responsibility that doctors do. Totally agree! In fact, I know several physicians that claim they will quit their practice if this entitlement comes to fruition. Edited by brick94513 2010-03-25 11:11 AM |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: TWISTER #2 pdbman - 2010-03-25 9:08 AM Got my swim in today. Why does the swim always feel so crappy after running? I always feel heavy when I workout in this order. Ironically, despite this feeling, I had one of my best paces during a ten minute and five minute swim (1:35/100). I'm pretty happy with these times. Hopefully, I can transfer my pool work and times to the open water. x2 on that. I did a swim after a run Tuesday and was wondering if I was going to make it. I did finish my workout in the time I wanted, but it was a lot of work and my form was horrible. I was half expecting the lifeguard to jump in or ask if I was OK. This was my first swim after a run workout and I wasn't expecting it to be so hard. I try to practice this rountine since some of the XTERRAs divide the swim into two segments. They will have you swim the loop, beach run, then swim the loop again. If the weather stays nice, I'm hoping to get out this week and practice in the ocean. |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: TWISTER #2 Got home late from work last night and was about to head out on a ride when my wife reminded me we had a meeting. I had to cut it short but I did at least get out for a ride. After the meeting I went out for a run and it was wonderful. My time was a little slower then on the track at the Olympic Oval the other day, but it was still decent and the road is a little hilly so I am still happy with the run. It was a beautiful and peaceful night. When I got back I didn't want to go inside but it was 11:00 and my wife was waiting for me so I headed in. It would have been a perfect night for getting out the sleeping bag and sleeping under the stars. I probably would have had more sleep. I woke up after 4 hours and couldn't get back to sleep. I'm going to get really tired come 2:00 today. |

I think the 3 hours will work as a backup plan with my Blackburn that should get me through the night. I have a headlamp on the helmet that I can just change batteries so that will work for cue sheet, mileage, and street signs (hopefully!) So that answers my next question. You are going old school with cue sheets instead of GPS. They don't allow GPS in TransIowa - they give the first set of cue sheets out the night before and you don't get your next set until the 1st checkpoint and only if you make time cutoff. Fun Times. 1st checkpoint was easy 40 miles. 2nd checkpoint was over 110 miles after that and it just sucked - headwind the whole way (or so it seemed) - I pulled in about 10 minutes ahead of closing and just shook my head when they went to give me cue sheets to next point. Big mistake - should have grabbed them, ate something, and then decided! Lesson learned! Wow! That sounds like fun. So, you have only a vague idea of the route in advance. Are you disqualified if you miss their route, but still make the checkpoint? |

We already have a doctor shortage here in Salt Lake City and I don't see it getting any better. We had doctors closing their doors before this came into play. |

No OWS for the foreseeable future. Where do you OWS? Utah Lake? Utah lake is pretty slimy. Lots of algae floating around. There are a lot of reservoirs around that people swim in. I think the most popular for tri training is a small local one that was just built last summer that is on the south end of the Salt Lake valley and Echo reservoir, which it the location of one of the most popular and probably one of the oldest tri's around. Echo is a little farther drive, probably an hour drive for me. |

It was the year one of the old timers of the race was hit by a truck and killed. If I remember right, he might be the guy that helped organize it. It would be cool to just qualify for this one. |
