I am pretty anxious for this race.  It is my first HIM and I am following the HIM plan from the "Time Crunched Triathlete" book by Chris Carmichael.  Probably not the smartest thing to do but it fits my busy lifestyle.  It is an excelerated 8-week program for people that are balancing heavy work schedules and family time.  It works great for me as I have been training moderately all through the winter and am in good physical shape going into it.  Most all of the training is brick work to get your body ready for sport transition.  It works great because it allows me to knock most training out at lunch in the gym or weather permitting, outside.  Plus you get two days off during the work week.  I am not looking to medal so it works for me.  The book  stresses that this plan will jus get you physically ready to finish a good race you can be proud of, not a race for you to PM.

Training is going okay.  This is my first HIM and my previous longest distance is a sprint!  I still haven't biked over 50 or ran over 10, so pretty nervous...  Sorta following the Beginner Plan here on BT, but having to just get workouts in where they'll fit sometimes...

This was my first HIM last year, but I had done some Olympics beforehand. My longest ride before that race was 45 miles, but I had dome a lot of bricks (bike, then run) combos, so I did ok. Try to get at least one brick in each week- they make all the difference in the world come race day!

First HIM here as well and no Oly experience....just 2 sprints so far! I know I can do each distance individually but a little nervous about stringing them together back 2 back. I think training is going ok, just going to trust my coach and goal is to cross the finish line under time limit.

You could the Kemah Oly the weekend before, test out your skills and get some piece of mind. Very fun, unique, and creative race. Great for your first Oly. Similar race conditions to the 70.3 you'll do the following weekend too.

Little nervous here too.  I'm not sure I'm going to make it, as it's the busy season at work...darn work for messing with my training!   But, it pays the entry fees and for everything else that goes with it.  I just did the 1/2 in Houston 2 weeks ago, so my run is there.  However, I've only biked as much as 35 miles at one time (going for more this weekend) and I've had a hard time getting to the pool like I should.  I can swim the distance comfortably in the pool, but I know that's a far cry from swimming it in open water.  Might be switching to the Oly...

Not entirely true.  The Oly was moved to October and is now part of the Ironman 5150 series.

This will be my first HIM, I've only done sprints before. I have no idea what to expect or if my training is sufficient. But I seem to be on target with my training plan. But with just 8 weeks out it's hard to believe some days I'll be able to string it all together. One or two I think I'm good with, all three.....time will tell.
I'm super excited most days, and try not to think about it the other days. Smile

This will be my third HIM. I don't know if anyone ever feels "ready" this early in the season. Especially with the weather we've had lately.

Getting nervous about my first HIM, but persevering .......

I'm up to the distance I need to be in each event, but just keep thinking "How will I do all three, when I'm this worn out for one leg......"  Hopefully, I'll reign in some additional strength and endurance over the next few weeks.

Good luck everyone!

I'm starting to get back into the routine of things. LOTS of sickness (major head and chest colds, etc.) during December and early January... then LOTS of schedule conflicts.

Hoping that the next month passes SLOWLY so I can get in all my workouts!!

Man...I can't believe we are at 30days :-/ I am SOOO nervous thinking about this race.  I have been training but I am so scared...all i care about, with this being my first, is that I finish.

I do have a question.  I am needing to buy some new goggles and wanted to see if I should get a clear pair (since we are swimming in the gulf) or do I need a pair that are mirrored?

Thanks guys :-)

Water visability is bad no matter what. There could be sighting issues with the sun - especially for the first leg that is heading eastward. I'm wearing something that's tinted. I always have before with no issues.

I wore tinted Speedo GCG Plus goggles for the swim last year and had no problems at all. I actually found the water visibility "very good" compared to my preconceived notions. I had at least a full arm length of visibility, and you might want a tinted goggle to cut down on the sun and glare on the water.

Keep training...you will be fine come race day. I remember being a bucket of nerves in the days leading up to the race. It was tough, but I did finish (last year was my first 70.3), and now I'm back for another round. Smile

Thank you mman and roadrhino for your advice.  I will be going out this week to get a tinted pair of goggles.

Yeah, I get nervous all the time but even more so before a race.  This should be interesting since its my longest distance :-/ But yeah, I'm excited :-)  Can't wait to get started so I can say I finish :-)
