That is a lot of work out, I would kill for that discipline. I have hit a funk. It feels like all I can do is think about how I need to do a work out while I am doing everything else that needs to get done but all I can think about during my work out is how much I need to be doing and working on and how I am at the gym instead. It is a constant battle to stay for the full workout I planned because I feel like I need to be doing the other stuff and then I get home and start working again and all I can think about is how I should be working out. any thoughts/inspires/motivations |

That is the way for me to stay focused, but then you also have to trust that plan. Alot of times I feel like I should be doing more than what the plans says... but then I think there is a reason for the way the plan is set up. I have problems with rest days personally, so a plan really helps me stay on track and use those much needed rest days. |

I believe you have a job where you have a lot of flexible hours- staying up all night editing and whatnot, right? So if I were you, I would just put it on your schedule just like you would a meeting with your boss. If you have a ride planned, and you know you need two hours to do it, block from 2-4 in the afternoon and just schedule it. That way, you know you have the time. And uh, stop procrastinating all your work so that you're not in a rush to get everything done. Was that a firm enough kick in the pants for you? |

Truthfully, I've pretty much stopped using the videos all together. I know the workouts at this point, so I just do the exercises. I actually get thru the training quicker without him yapping the whole time. Though I will tell ya, that last round of divebombers on my own always seems to be the one where I say "do I reeeallllyyyyy have to do this againnnnnnn?" |

I feel the same way, especially because I am a very strong swimmer and like to do swim workout that are 2000-3000 yards long and sometimes I don't feel worked out enough. I dont know, this is where the ADD really starts to screw with my head. |

Member 5452 NC | Subject: RE: JFord's Mentor Group-Open James, if there is still room, I'm in. Thanks. STORY: No real athletic background - but was pretty in to rock climbing/backpacking years ago. Busy job. Married. Kids. Out of shape with high blood pressure. As a result, in mid 2009, my primary care physician told me that I needed to get it together. In August 2009, I started a C25K program through the local running store. Moved on to 5K, 8K, 10K and then finished up 2010 with a HM. I started cycling late summer 2010 and swimming a couple of months ago. FAMILY STATUS: Married to a new triathlete with two killer kids (4.5yo boy and 1.5yo girl). CURRENT TRAINING: I'm not really on a plan currently, but trying to get in 3X each discipline a week. I'm running with a group that is training for a HM in March. 2010 RACES: Various shorter distance running races and finished up with a HM. 2011 RACES/GOALS: First duathlon (early March), first sprint triathlon- pool (late March), demolish my 8K PR in the neighborhood race (early April), mud run (late April), first sprint triathlon - OWS (May), first century ride (maybe), 24 hour charity ride (late July), first Olympic triathlon (Rev 3 in October), bike leg HIM relay (Beach to Battleship, late October) & half marathon (mid November). I will probably have a couple more sprinkled in. WEIGHTLOSS: Down 30 lbs. since August 9, 2009. Currently at 210lbs at 6'4". Edited by Goosedog 2011-01-18 2:08 PM |

I don't understand the inspires, or friends and such. Friends- well that is so you can have easier access to follow their training, just slide over to the left on your blog and click on their picture and you are at their logs. Inspires are just ways to motivate or kick them in the butt if they are slacking. This site- well it is what you want it to be. This is a group that will help you with any questions you have about anything, training, equipment, processes...it is just a group to help you and to for you to help others on their own triathlon journeys. Sometimes we will rant/vent and other times we will need a boost, this is where you come to get it. ALSO IF YOUR LOGS ARE PRIVATE, IT WILL BE HARDER FOR THE GROUP TO LOOK AT YOUR WORKOUTS AND GIVE FEEDBACK IF YOU WANT US TOO. Edited by jford2309 2011-01-18 4:29 PM |

Saw your story about your % of body fat goal and love of cooking. I've been cooking seriously for the last 10 years and have to say that you have a leg up if you know how to cook. The Paulie Dean thing will not get you there, but I've been able to change up my cooking over the last few years and it has made all the difference in weight and health. Nothing magical, just lots of whole grains, lean protein and plenty of fruits and veggies. That said, my weakness remains beer (really good beer with lots of taste and calories), which I have had to cut back on. |

I agree with you and my mother taught me to cook from a very younge age. I am no professional chef but I can hold my own and am very comfortable in the kitchen. I also know how to cook healthy and tasty, but.............Come on, admit it... Bacon is soooooooooooooooo good!!!Saw your story about your % of body fat goal and love of cooking. Expert 1480 Somewhere in the Swamps of Philly | Subject: RE: JFord's Mentor Group-Closed Hey Folks - Need some help with this one. This coming Sunday, I'm starting the 20 week Beginner HIM training plan. On Friday of that same week, I'm taking the family on well deserved trip to Disney World for 5 days/4 nites. I'm thinking about how best to modify the following schedule: Fri - Off Sat - Bike 90 mins Sun - Sw 40 mins; Run 40 mins M - Bike 60 mins; Run 30 mins Tues - Swim 30 mins I will have access to a gym and believe that there is a stationary bike, however, there's no real way to swim. My swim fitness is pretty decent so my thought would be simply to drop the two swims as they are relatively short sets, run as scheduled and hit the stationary bike (not a big fan of it, but then again who is). Thoughts? |

Get your runs in and some time on the bike, but I would not sweat missing two swims this early. If your ok with your swim fitness, you should be alright. Most people struggle with the swim more than anything else, so I wouldn;t sweat it. Enjoy the vacation and the family! |
