I am an idiot. I just realized this thread exists. Am I still on the team?

I PM'd Possum (I thought she was captain) Midwest Ice Scrapers for team name. I thought that was funny...picturing all of us swimming through the ice. Blizzard is cool though.

My PATHETIC GOAL by comparison is 7500 yds. My excuse, I am not a swimmer, nor do I play one on TV. It is such a mental challenge for me to even spend 30 minutes in a pool workout. I do tri's to force myself out of my comfort zone, and swimming is WAY OUT. However, unlike most years when my swimming goal is ZERO yards for December, this will be good for me. Anybody else challenging themselves to a 7500% INCREASE in their typical yardage?

And, as long as I understand, total team yardage is meaningless...it is % of goal? If total yards mean something, I'll relinquish my position to a more noble midwestern swimmer. And, can I just post my weekly totals here or ?
Thanks,
Dan M.

Welcome Dan.  Hopefully its not too late to join, we could use you.

7500 is better than zero.  I'm in the same boat as you I think.  I'm a horrible swimmer and I have to force myself into the pool.  I've set a few major goals for myself next year (full and 1/2 iron) so I have to swim.  I also hired a swim coach so I'm obligated to be in the pool.  Believe me, if I could change the world of triathlon I would replace the swim leg with anything else.

Now....to the water....

I'm not terrible...just find it boring, like a treadmill. Running outside is much better. Did I mention that?

OK, I'm sort of terrible, but I've now done 5 years worth of tri's and am passable. I did a HIM last summer and was comfortable the whole time. I normally take winter off to give myself a break from doing something I otherwise hate. But this is good. PLEASE HIKERGERB can I be on the team?

I am showing up on all of Renee's original rosters. I was an early adopter.

Hey guys, sorry I've been MIA from the thread, but I am definitely in. This looks like a great team, and I'm honored to be on it. Talk to me about goal setting. Is the idea to reach beyond what we think we can do, or just set a  reasonable goal (for me that'd be 20,000 yards) and try to stretch past that? Thanks for your help. And BTW, don't mean to cause any dissent among teammates, but I was born and raised in Wisconsin and would like to say on this important Monday:

 Go Pack!!!

it's 100% about your personal goals, so, in theory, the person who pledges 100 and the person who pledges 100,000 have the same goal: to reach your goal given the time/seasonal constraits.

I am way more impressed with myself when I focus on maintaining some semblance of a balanced life and make plans that make sense for my life at that time. So far, the most important lesson I have learned at BT (fitness wise) is to plan wisely, to be deliberate. The last swim challenge, I pledged too high, and really got grumpy and very very sore- my shoulders required major rest the next month. so yeah, guys and gals, we are SO GONNA FREEZE the competition! Wahoo! for Dec, we should all make sure we inspire each other lots, I am going to change my friends list to TEAM BLIZZARD to make it easier.

you guys gotta come up with sigs too, or use mine! And howdja like my verrrrrry intimidating new avatar? DOlly Parton was not tough enough, grrrrrrr.

OK Triman 50 - I bleed purple, even when they stink. But because of my training load (and my age) I'll be in bed at 9. Enjoy the game. The object of this whole challenge is to set you goal and reach it. I tend to like to push myself a bit so I set one I'll have to work at. We will be ranked on the percentage of the goal we make. I would consider a 20,000 yd goal worthy. Hell I wish I swam 20000 yds in a good month. Let me know what you want me to put you down for.

Hiker - I swim 2-3 times per week, usually about 2,000 yards. BUT, since this is December and since I'm pretty certain Christmas is still in December, put me down for 16,000. Does it help the team then if I go over? And BTW, I'm in an older age group than you. Don't start using that excuse just yet!

I still haven't got a permanent sig loaded. I know what I want, and I've located the source, but haven't recovered the gem yet.

I added your sig as well Possum, I like it! Okay, I may just have to keep the last line...button up...because I've got alot of crap in my signature line

I decided to temporarily erase some stuff, so that there's plenty of room for the entire thing. It's too funny not to have all of it!

Hey Steve (hikergerb)

Is it too late to lower our swim goals?  Found out last night I'll be traveling to Chicago for an early Christmas so I'll be away from the pool on at least one, maybe two scheduled swim days.

If its not too late to change goals I want to lower mine from 30,000 to 23,000.  Let me know.

Micheal - I haven't turned any numbers in yet so in my mind you still can change it up to the 30th. I want to post a list on this thread of what I have so far (most likely Friday as I am swamped at work right now and will be off that day) so the whole team can double check thier numbers.

All of you bear with me if I'm a little queit the next few days as I am in a bit of a crunch here at work (the end of the year rush has started about a month early YUCK!!!!!)

ok Boy's and girl's - this is what I have as a draft of the team roster and goals. Please check it over well to make sure I have your goal right and have missed any names. If I've made a mistake (or two) PM me so I can correct it. I have until Nov 30 to turn it in so this is still subject to change. I am hoping to PM you all over the weekend.

Admirable goals for the Blizzards -- too bad they're going to be iced by TEAM UTAH!

Seriously, as a former Minnesotan, I'm pulling for ya to do well, but since you'll all be on ice, it might be a tough thing to do?

Good luck, and may the BEST team win!

Here's my plan. It's pretty aggressive since I haven't done 2 miles in a practice since June but this helps keep a focus. I'll also be throwing in a 4-5 spinning classes and weight lifting at home.

December Challenge Swim Plan (in meters)
Routine Total Warmup
Endurance 12-3 3300 200 warm, 3x500, 4x200, 8x100
Speed 12-6 3300 200 warm, 1x700, 2x400, 4x200, 5x100, 6x50
Endurance 12-10 3300 200 warm, 3x600, 4x200, 5x100
Speed 12-14 3300 200 warm, 1x700, 1x600, 4x200, 10x100
Endurance 12-17 3300 200 warm, 1x1000, 2x600, 3x300
Speed 12-23 3300 200 warm, 3x500, 4x200, 8x100
Endurance 12-31 3250 200 warm, 1x1650, 2x700

Total Meters 23050
