Did you get your treadmill fixed, Scott? Hope it was just a bolt. Glad to know your calf pain is better.

Way to get it done, Kate and Jeff. I thought you said you were a slacker this week, Jeff.

Finished my 4th run this morn for a total of 25.5 miles for the week. That's the most training miles I've put in a week in a very long time. I'll take tomorrow off from running as I can tell my body needs a break.

My hubby and I are heading out soon to try a new sushi restaurant on our way to our daughter's basketball game. Should be a fun evening!

Hope you're all having a blessed weekend! Keep running happy!

Ran yesterday morning for #1.

Ran tonight, but I'll need some leeway from you guys to declare it #2!   My treadmill broke about 10 minutes into the run.  Frown   I think it's just a bolt that needs replacement -- hopefully can do that tomorrow and be back up quickly.

Scott.

I think intention is 9/10 of the law.  Oh wait, misquoted didn't I?  Still think it should count.

Yes.  Bought a new bolt yesterday, installed it today, ran on it tonight.   Quite an easy fix, and I'm very glad we didn't let it let it linger.    Still just #3 for the week though (my week starts on  Monday) so I need to run tomorrow!

Scott.

5 runs for me this week for a total of 33.3 miles.  But now I'm tapering so mileage will drop for the next few weeks.  Yay!!!!

Great job everyone!

7 degrees is indeed impressive.  We were in that range today and it was CHILLY... no way I was running outside in that!

Completed #4 this evening (60 min).   Only 22.5 km for the week, given the treadmill fiasco, but still happy with my consistency here.  Congrats to all!

Awesome job guys!

Scott: glad you were able to fix your treadmill. The motor went out on mine this summer.

Nichi: Great job persevering in the cold weather running.

Pam: Fantastic mileage! You are gonna be great in your marathon next month.

You posts encourage and inspire me a lot. Thanks for being willing to share your journey's.

Run #1 yesterday morning

Run #2 this morning

(30 min each)

Trying to get the runs out of the way early, as we leave for Disney early Sunday morning (and I suspect Saturday will be crazy packing day!)

Scott.

Have fun at Disney, Scott.

1st run yesterday and 2nd run today.  Today was a tempo run and it was good.  Think I'll let it be my last "speedwork" before the marathon so I can go in with more confidence.

No harm in coming back next week!

#4 completed tonight.  No long run this week, so had a very boring 4 x 30 min (the nicer word is "consistent"!).

Off to Florida in the AM!   Will be fun to see if I can find opportunities to run while there.

Scott.

I agree.  Come back next week Jeff!  We still have about 8 weeks till Easter.

Scott, have fun at Disney.

I've got to go out later today to get my 4th of the week.  Just sent hubby and son off to baseball work days but I've got to get some annoying tasks done before I can slip out for a run

I got my 4th run in this week and upped my mileage to a total of 30.13. All done on the treadmill because I'm not a beast like Nichi so I don't go out when it's frigid. I'm loosely following Hal Higdon's Intermediate marathon training plan. I've never followed a plan for any event I've ever done and I don't know why I felt the need to for my March marathon. I gotta say I'm not sure I like the stress it adds. Pam, I know you're quite the marathon girl - do you follow a plan? If so, how do you deal with looking at the plan and realizing it's not possible to get certain runs in? Anyone else can add your two cent too, please.

Scott should now be on vacation so I don't know if he'll check in but I'm sending wishes for a wonderful time with your family.

Have a blessed Sunday everyone!

4 runs in this week for a total of 23 miles.

Oh, Brenda,, it's so hard for me to answer that question because I've been at a different place every time.  First, I'm not a hardcore marathoner; Sunday will be my fourth marathon.  But for my first HM training plan, I FREAKED every time I didn't get the runs in.  FREAKED!!!  A precious friend talked me down from the ledge but I felt like a failure if I didn't do it.  First mary plan, again got stressed when I didn't make it but I would try to juggle it and make most of it - always the longs.  Now I'm so laid back that it's flat out wrong.  I try to walk the tightrope of doing the training but not living my life around the plan.  It's hard.  Just attempt to do the plan as closely as possible but also listen to your body.  Take a break if needed and then either forget about the unplanned rest day or do slight juggling to get it close to right.  For example, if you are on a 5 a week plan and maybe it looks like 4-5-8-3-12, if you need a break, drop the 3 or the 4 miler and get the others in.  But if life interfers and the 12 is dropped, don't beat yourself up but make sure that the next week isn't too taxing or you'll get hurt.

I like Hal Higdon's plan.  I usually go with the novice 2 and then attempt to add a 5th ez run in.  Of course, I'm not gonna BQ with that attitude.  Are you looking for a BQ?  I'm watching a girl in our mentor group that is trying to BQ and Lord, I couldn't do what she is doing.  Admire her to no end.  Her overall paces are slightly faster than mine but then again, I die in the later stages of the mary while I think she'll negative split it.  I'm doing 30mpw and she is doing 50mpw and she'll probably get about 4:10 or 4:05 while I'll be dancing for joy with a 4:45

Thanks so much, Pam. I knew you'd have good advice! No way am I looking to BQ....ever.....but since this is my first road marathon I feel like my slowness will really be exposed more so than it is on trails. (Don't ask me why - maybe the trees hide my pace?! - ha!) I think I need to change to the novice program which only has 4x running a week. 5x just isn't working for me when I also want to keep up my biking fitness and get to the pool. The added stress just isn't worth it. I'm glad you had a friend who talked you "down from the ledge" and I appreciate you doing the same for me. I'll take your advice to get in the long ones and work shorter ones in when I can. I can now breathe again. THANK YOU!

Way to go on your marathon training Pam and Brenda! I am impressed by anyone aspiring to trek 26 miles on foot.

I got my training in for the week with 5 runs. Saturday's got cut short by a mile. I'm working to increase my short runs this week to 4 miles. I wish I had a faster pace. It's something I am going to work on this summer to improve my times in my fall olympic distance.

Jeff: I second everyone's idea that you should keep working toward hitting that 4X per week.

Have a great running week everyone!!!

okay, so I got my #3 and #4 runs in on Sunday on the dreaded treadmill!  It was ice all over outside.  Today my husband stopped in to change his clothes because he fell getting out of his truck...thankfully, not injured, but I am not going out there...snow and cold don't stop me, but ice does.

FWIW

I do Jeff Galloway's training program and it is very doable. I am extremely slow, but this plan helps me to get it done and that's what I care the most about.  I have done two marathons and am training for my third right now.

Girl, I looked over your logs and you are doing awesome!!!!   From the comment that is bolded above, I was going to add something (along the lines that some people in road races aren't as nice as all in trail races).  But then I looked up your marathon and saw the format.  Oh Girl, that will be fun!  A looped 1 mile course in a park; that will be awesome and you will enjoy it.  The thing about looped courses is that people are friendly.  Also you never know if you are ahead or behind someone.  My first looped course, I thought would be so boring but it as anything but.  You can watch the scenery, dogs playing, people coming in and out of the park, the other runners, etc.  I definitely want to hear how it goes.  You are definitely looking good on the paces, distances, etc.  And with the xt, my opinion is 4 times a week (or even 3 if it happens) is all good.

Thanks for your kind words and encouragement, Pam. See, I knew you were a sweetheart! In theory, the looped marathon sounds SO boring but when I read the reviews I knew it was something that I just had to do because every reviewer said it was awesome. They give us two race numbers with our name to put on the front and back so when you come up behind someone you can encourage them by name. I love the spirit of that! It's good to know your experience with a loop was also positive.

Nichi - I'll look into the Jeff Galloway plan. I've heard of him - I think he recommends a run/walk which would work for me since I know I'll end up walking some (at least the aid station which I'll see 26 times).

We're having an unseasonably warm day today which would be great to get outside to run but we're also having a continual rain with flood warnings so I'm stuck inside.

Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday!
