markmark - 2007-01-16 3:41 PM Morning all, thanks for the info on HRMs I'll go looking and see what's available (maybe a garmin 301, just have to run it by my accountant!/Wife ) thanks for the link Ben, there's a heap of info there.

I actually have the 305 and it's nice, but the weather here has been bad enough that I haven't used it yet. I'm doing a tem mile run race on Sunday so I'll use it then. Good luck with the accountant!

You boys can TRI to top our workouts.... but I don't see it happening.  There's far too much whining about work, and stress and broken teeth in your blogs to allow for much training time.  You are no match for women, much less women who work and have kids.  We are the queens of time management and midlife crisis determination.

The smack-down's on!

Oh....and Hi Matt! How are the teeth?

So yesterday I opened my email which had several emails about posts from our group. I thought I had better log in and see whats up...

Ahhh the group finially got the trash talking stage. Now it is offically motivating for me. So bring it chica.....

I am ready for the challenge, the question is are you afraid of getting barried by some rookie.

Oh and glad to have you Matt....

"the guy soon to be up front"
Alex

P.S. A little trash talk = me running harder today then ever before....

WooHoo!!  Alex is fun!!!

Bring it!  You're going to have to start logging some serious training time in order to catch us chicas!!!

Yeah...you need to keep up, because if you miss a day on this thread, you miss....well, some. I think MarkMark needs to keep asking more questions.  That usually brings Ben out to talk.  Heehee!

Not to spoil the fun, but I think Ben is just sticking to the plan that he has set for himself. Speaking from experience, it's very easy to get overtrained with this little hobby and it's important to keep it in perspective. That being said........

I have two excuses for not getting into this little smack talk bit. First, I'm in a much needed recovery week and second, I'm running a tem mile race on Sunday. The run race is a test for my present fitness level, so I want to do well. As for next week, I WILL LOG MORE MILES THAN YOU!

Ohhhh I'm gettin' after it allright  I've got a feeling that what's left of this week is going to be fairly productive (Wife's out of town so I can train all I want) Plus, I've got a Duathlon on Saturday on what is according to their website "90% snowpacked"    In all honesty though, I'll be taking it easy on the snowpack.  Don't want to injure myself on a low priority race and I've got alot of work to do before my first race in May.

Speaking of races, when is everyone's 1st triathlon this season?

Nampa Indoor Tri Feb 17th. I just got my confirmation letter yesterday and I spent the $$ on it so no backin out now....

I have never done anything like this tell me if you guys have. Keep in mind this a small short race. They break it into three heets and only allow 30 people or teams.
Swim inside 18 laps
Get out of the pull and Run upstairs from right of the swimming deck to a set of Star Trek bikes. (bikes only have straps no clips, I was told) 10 miles on the bike set your own resitence.
Bikes are placed right next to their indoor track which is 1/5 of a mile. Run 20 laps for 4 miles.

Has anyone ever done anything like this? Any indoor hints....
I don't belong to the rec center that is hosting this event but I still thought about swinging by there this weekend to check out the bikes ect. just to at least have a mental image.

I think stopping by would be smart.  At least you would have a mental layout in your head.  I have not done an indoor Tri, but my gym is holding one in a couple months.  Theirs is time based.  You get 10 min in the pool, and someone counts how many laps you do in that time.  Then you get 15 min to transition up to the spin class room.  Again, I think you get a half hour or something, and however far you bike in that time is logged.  (However, not sure how they are going to do this since the spin class bikes don't have a way to show you how many miles you have gone.) And then a 5 min transition to get on a treadmill, and again, however far you can go in the given time is logged.  In the end the person who went the farthest wins.  I really doesn't appeal to me.  If I lived someplace where it was snowy and cold and there were no Tris for 6 months, I would do it.  But I have outside Tris to do here, so I am going to pass. Plus, with this one there are no age group divisions.  So with all the young Tri-punks at my gym, that would mean  I would be toward the bottom of the results list. No thanks!!!

BUT...I am sure you will have fun at yours!  Will this be your very first Tri experience?

Buffalo Springs 1/2 Ironman, Lubbock, Texas

I'm tempted to take the trainer to the sauna at the gym for some heat training!

I also may do a sprint tri in Kansas in May, but it's not on the event list so I don't know if they are doing it this year.

Hey guys, and now Matt too!  Thats great. I'm at the public library in Seward checking in on things.   Seems like everyone is doing great.  I've found that there isn't much to do here except work out (either that or hit the one bar in town) so I'm getting some good hours in.  Have a great weekend.  I'll probably check in next weekend as well.

For all of you enjoying warm weather, its frickin freezing here. Ugh

Hey Spriite!  Glad to see you made it to civilization for a while!!  It's super cold here too.  Well, not as cold as up there, I'm sure, but cold for Arizona!  It actually snowed in parts of the city yesterday!  I am sooooo ready for this cold front to move on through!  They are predicting that on Sunday it will be a low of 45 instead of 35, and actually warm up that day.  I can only hope because that 8am race time start is going to be a bit chilly for this desert dweller if not.

When is everyone else planning their first race of the season?

Howdy Blackbud,
March 11th got a corporate team 400m swim 10k ride and 5 k run so a good one to start with. OK change of plans,,,,,,,, (family wedding) so now it's off to Karri valley for a short course 500m swim, 15km ride,4km run. should be good March 17th link below if you want to have a look.
http://www.stadiumtriclub.com/kvt/course.html or just type in Karri valley triathlon. Not sure if I'm up to spec for the long course just yet, But by next season I'll be ready!

California ironman 70.3 March 31st, my first of the season. I'm registered and I bought plane tickets. I'm in for sure now.  I'm moving this summer to go to grad school, so not sure what my next race after that will be.  It will depend where I end up.

Hmmmm,,,,,,, all very quiet out there,,, I'm reckoning no-ones got time for talking flat out training? or there's 12 foot of snow everywhere and computer terminals are frozen solid?

Also when I reply in the training pages does that go to the sender or just sit in the inspire me logs?

cheers Mark

Yeah, it has been quiet!!  I've been busier that a one-legged man in an a$$-kicking contest at work and I volunteered to help a friend install some new hardwood flooring (not that I'll be much help) this weekend.

If you click on the "Reply" button in your "Inspire" section, it adds another inspire to your log.  If you click on the "Blog" button, it takes you to the other person's "Inspire."

I'm still waiting on pics of the new ride too!!!
