Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ooff! Rough day yesterday and not much time this AM, but wanted to check in. Welcome back, Ken and thanks! Pushing through the fatigue yesterday reminded me of what I'd heard about resting heart rate as an indicator of overtraining (or impending overtraining), so I looked it up. Here's a helpful page on overreaching and overtraining http://www.cptips.com/ovrtrng.htm. They also have a good page on nutrition. You guys are keeping me on my toes with my diet and not eating crap. I think I might be taking in too few calories right now, maybe contributing to the fatigue. Okay, better get to work! Enjoy your day, everyone. Sandi |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I never even liked candy very much till I started working with my co-workers. I mean, I CERTAINLY never craved it. NOW, IF IT'S NOT m&m's, it;s candy hearts, chocolates, wintergreen lifesavers-- I HAVE TO STOP! Out to dinner tonight, but it's to a cool caribbean place where there will be lots of fish with fruit type salsa. that will be delicious and totally make me happy! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So, how was everyone's day? I still have three more reviews to write. UGH! However, I cannot stay away from this site. I'm addicted :) Ken, thanks for the advice on the swim and nutrition. I definately need to drink more water. For some reason, this is not so easy for me. I have just never gotten in the habit.

PLEASE ASK ME ABOUT THIS AT THE END OF THE DAY TO KEEP ME HONEST!! Amy, So.... how did you do with the cookies? How were the smoothies? What a group of people to work with?!?!?! That's pretty cool. I have a co-worker who is also trying to make some changes with diet and exercise right now, so instead of going out to each lunch every day, we head to the gym. It's very motivating and great to fit a workout into the middle of the day. Terry Edited by tw04429 2008-01-08 7:41 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() aquinn... Anyone - can you explain to me how to add personal goals to my page- and SERIOUSLY, LADIES- I need HELP with all this chlorine and my hair already. What do all these pool rats use so they don't look nasty-headed?? That is so not happening if I can help it. To add the personal goals, click on Control Panel (in the upper left hand corner on the home page). Then, click on Edit your training sessions. From there, you can click on Goals. For protecting hair from chlorine, my stylist and my mom both advised me to coat my hair with conditioner before getting into the pool. I have followed that advice with pretty good results. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() aquinn - 2008-01-08 6:11 PM Usually my smoothie de jour is banana, natural peanut butter, milk and chocolate protein powder I've never tried peanut butter smoothie beefore, come to think of it, mmm yummy. New smoothie recipe to try. Thanks. Ken, i've started taking my water bottle around the office and my colleague said i look like an idiot haha... But it does help a lot, i do feel less thirsty on the run yesterday. My 10k route goes around a residenttial area so no place to stash water bottles along the way. Normally at the end of the run i get really really thisrsty. I just read the first few chapters of total immersion from google book. Seems like a good read. Too bad i cant source it from the local book store. Probably have to order it through amazon us, but it does seems useful. You're all making me feel very guilty about my diet. I'll have to start eating healthy. Ok, back to work for now. Dont train too hard, dont get injured! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Stayed away from all cookies and candy all day. hooray. Didn't end up going to Caribbean place, but did go out. Did get a burger and sweet potato fries (not very many on the plate, for what that's worth) Did not have more than one glass of wine, like the 7 friends we were out with did, did not partake from the bread basket, did not have an appetizer, and no dessert. (all the others did) So, I do not feel especially bad. part of that is BECAUSE.... at 5 pm, while my son had swimming lessons, did do another 10 x 100. Felt great, took about 30 minutes though I was not really timing myself, but there were interruptions with my son talking to me, etc. Really concentrated on my pelvic tilt, keep abs tight and streamlined and could totally feel that about an hour later! lol. I know open water will be a whole different ball game, but if I can keep feeling this good about the swim......I can't ask for more. The worst news is that my FREAKING HAIR WAS LITERALLY SINGEING OFF AS I DRIED IT FOR DINNER WITH THE HAIR DRYER. I am going to have to soak it with conditioner- good idea, Terry, so thanks. ![]() Tomorrow-- going to meet a friend for a run in the dark @5:45- she has committed to dark and rainy running, but it is going to be in the mid 40's which is too warm to pass up for January here. I was going to sneak out and run at work today (also record breaking warmth and SUNSHINE) but ended up stuck on the phone fighting the insurance company on my dad's behalf to pay for the complex spinal surgery that he needs to beat the 24/7 chronic pain that is now killing him--almost literally. Insurance companies SUCK and I am sorry if you guys work for one, but it's ridiculous. This doc does not accept medicare and the ins co does not want to be primary payor. I will fight them till the BITTER END. As of today, I have a verbal commitment that they will pay 80% of the $102,000 surgery-- and that is good enough for me- we will piece the rest together somehow. Well, the verbal commitment is not ok -- just the figure. Now waiting for the written pre-cert. They said to give them two days. My dad's pain is another reason I try to keep this body healthy- long-term, I've got some genetic complications as risk factors for me, I fear!! And as and for smoothies-- peanut butter is the BOMB, MO! Run, don't walk to try that one!!! Though today's Berry-Orange-Pomegranate was nothing to sneeze at. Gonna duplicate that one in the AM!!! |

I have followed that advice with pretty good results. Oh sis, as a former lifeguard who has to clean pools, this comment made me gasp a little. Please refrain from the pre-swim conditioner. I have to get on Mom for that one. As a side note, I put conditioner in my hair after I'm done showering and leave it in. (works for me ok, but I'm a guy with short hair) Edited by kenaxford 2008-01-08 10:17 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm still here. Just checking in this morning as I did not boot up my computer last night. I was thinking the same thing as Amy.... quiet day on the board. I had a good workout last night, after work. At least, it was good for me. I am still working on the Couch to 5K run program, so I'm not doing that much running (vs. walking). However, I was a little uncertain about how my run would be yesterday given that the program was stepping up a notch. I was surprised that I felt pretty good. Amy, I was thinking of you last night when I was making a smoothie... peach and blueberry Terry |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did you use frozen peaches? Probably not, since you are from peach-heaven! We have such limited produce access in the winter here in the frozen tundra. Have you ever read the ABS diet book?I think there is lots of good nutrition advice in there. I found that it was really the first diet and exercise book ever I read that was INTERESTING. Any way, they have tons and tons of smoothie recipes in there. I am feeling a pineapple one in my future...... |
![]() ![]() |
Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Actually, I did use frozen peaches. They are not nearly as good as fresh ones, but fresh ones this time of the year aren't so great. Nope, I have never read the ABS diet book. What does ABS stand for? I'll have to take a look at it soon. Can you give us a teaser smoothie recipe? Maybe one with pineapple? |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, the diet is supposed to melt fat from your mid sections, of course with exercise, and I believe it would work. There is indeed an acronym, something like- (well, actually, exactly like- cause I just googled, cut and pasted) : 1) Almonds and Other Nuts eaten with skins intact. 2) Beans and Other Legumes 3) Spinach and Other Green Vegetables 4) Dairy: Fat-free or low-fat milk, yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese 5) Instant Oatmeal: Unsweetened, unflavored 6) Eggs 7) Turkey and other lean meats. Lean steak, chicken, fish 8) Peanut Butter - All-natural, sugar-free. 9) Olive Oil 10) Whole-Grain Breads and Cereals 11) Extra-Protein (Whey) Powder 12) Raspberries and Other Berries ABS are the first leter of the three foods above- the whole list spells out ABS DIET POWER. Catchy, huh? ![]() The more you center your meals around these foods, the better you feel and look! It's nothing new, really-- we all know these foods are good for us! This just gives you a focus. I will get the book out when I get home and look up the smoothie recipe with pineapple. There is also one with skim chocolate milk and a frozen Peppermint Patty!! Pretty good, too. ![]() Edited by aquinn 2008-01-10 8:20 AM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Breakfast check in: (who ate what??) For me: 2 glasses of water, oatmeal and my smoothie de'jour since our group is starting their own smoothie business, my smoothie de'jour is: 1 scoop vanilla protein powder - 1/2 cup apple juice - 1/2 cup yogert - 1 cup mixed frozen fruit - 1 banana (add to blender in that order for best mixing results) |
