Wow--I'm feeling pretty intimidated by all you great athletes! But I also look forward to hearing about how you do it. Just a little patience for those of us who are middle aged!

Jennifer...anytime you're feeling intimidated, you can always look at my previous post

Aaron,

What's a good cadence to maintain while on a bike trainer? I've been trying to maintain between 90-95.

Hi Aaron and all,

Is there an easy way to get a list of all of our user names/names in the group so that we can check in with each other for "inspire me" messages, etc.?  What do you think? And thanks for being such a quick respondent to questions and comments!

So, ummm...

What kind of things can I post here? For example I have some food questions but I don't know if I should go to the nutrition forums for that or if I can ask my questions here.

Ok, good.

I am wondering what everyone eats for breakfast. I need some ideas for quick breakfast foods (something besides oatmeal) that are going to kick my day off right.

Breakfast for me is typically a protein shake with fruit. Or I have whole wheat toast with scrambled egg whites with shredded cheese.

I do my best to track my diet, although mine falls far short of Aarons. I'm working on trying to improve it though. I'm currently trying to lose weight for 1 more month, at which time I will return to my nutritionist so she can set up a good training diet for me.

My current diet is supposed to consist of 15% protien, 55% carbs, & 30% fat. I'm supposed to limit my calories to 2K on rest days, 2.5K on regular work out days & 3K on heavy work out days. I can get away with 2 or 300 more a day & be fine. Here's a link to my diet http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=Schrup. I totally blew it today, starting with the leftover pepperoni pizza & then going on a mini ice cream binge when the Seahawks were getting smoked.

I bought some wet/cold weather bicycle riding gear today, a nice pair of gloves, booties, coat, & a front fender for my MTB. I want to start riding outdoors at least a couple times a week. I also paid for my first sprint Tri next June lastnight, so I'm offically commited.

Hey everyone... it looks like you all have had some great workouts throughout the week!  Can anybody give me advice on swimming?  I know that I just got started but I am seriously struggling.  I have been doing a combo of freestyle and breast stroke but my heart rate literally sky rockets as I go.  I am stopping in between each lap to get my heart rate down and to catch my breath.  I have never experienced anything where my heart races so quickly ... is this normal while starting to swim?  Is it something in which I just need to build up my endurance and continue to take it slowly?  Any advice would be helpful    Thanks and keep up the awesome work!!!

Hey! I can try and help. It might be a little hard to explain online. So if you have a friend in the area who is good at swimming, maybe see if you can meet up with them. Or get a private lesson just to get the basic down.

What is your history with swimming? I know when I started I was fine with open water from growing up on a lake, but didnt know the basics of lap swimming and proper technique. What I did was I looked at a couple of videos to see what it was "supposed" to look like, then I would try a nd recreate that in the pool. Is there something in particular you are strugging with? Like, feet keep dropping, breathing.. etc? In the meantime I'll try and look up a couple of videos that I looked at. It takes some time though! But efficiency can help with feeling like you have to stop all the time.

I think everyone usually struggles with swimming when they start. When I started, I had to alternate between freestle and breast, which I found more comfortable. Then one day, it just clicked. If you have anyone who can look at your stroke I'd do it sooner than later. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice    I feel comfortable with my stroke but I am having a really hard time with my breathing and heart rate... I am gasping for breath after each lap and my heart rate sky rockets as I go.  I have to stop after each lap in order to catch my breath and to let my heart rate decrease.  I haven't swam in YEARS so I definitely don't expect to be a great swimmer for quite some time, but I am surprised that I am having such a hard time with the breathing/heart rate aspect of it.  Have any of you all experienced this (when you were first starting to swim?)?

Speaking of swimming, I finally got my suit! w00t! And, as we speak, I'm registering for the indoor pool in my town. I can finally start my swimming training.

I have a quick question about my training schedule. I noticed that most days I'm swimming and running and then biking on a separate day. This is going to sound like a silly question, but I'm wondering at the end of the 22 weeks how I'm supposed to be able to do all three on the same day. I'm especially concerned about the transition from swimming to biking to running. I know that when I get off the bike, at least for now, my legs don't function properly. Should I be mixing up my schedule so that I do swimming and biking or biking and then running? And near the end of the training, should I be trying to do all three in the same day?
