Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() RobinRN - 2012-03-06 10:32 AM Hmmm--maybe I need to look for a different line of goggles. While I love these (don't leak, don't make my eyes feel like they're going to pop out of the socket), they have fogged since the very first time that I've used them (and I've only had them for a couple of months). Happens regardless of whether I'm swimming indoors or outdoors. Anyone have a goggle that they love? Here's the one that I'm currently using: http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/1131.htm
mcgilmartin - 2012-03-05 11:15 AM RobinRN - 2012-03-06 7:44 AM I love my current goggles but have had major fogging issues with them. Came across this defogging article and thought I would pass it on in case others were wrestling with the same issue. Toothpaste and spit---who knew? http://www.livestrong.com/article/378992-how-to-defog-swimming-goggles/
Robin- how often do you change your goggles out? I used to do that and it got kind of annoying. I now just replace goggles every six months. THey tend to be less leaky when they're new. I also figure $15 for a new set isn't a big investment. Of course, this is just me and my personal need to be a prima donna. LOL
I also use the Speedo Vanquisher, but not the women's specific. I went through several pairs before I found some that fit me well. As far as fogging, I don't know that there is a good answer. I have heard about special sprays, wipes, spit, baby shampoo, etc, etc and have yet to find something that works 100%. I do love my Aqua Sphere Kaiman's that I use for OWS. I may start using them all the time! |

Thanks! Snorkels are illegal, the dive mask is fine. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I use Tyr Nest Pro Nano. It took me a while to find these, but I'm extremely please. I have a narrow nose bridge, so not all goggles fit my face. These have been staying relatively fog free for me. They'll fog up once during my warm up swim, I'll take them off and rinse them in the pool water and they're good to go for the rest of the workout. However, do not wear these if you don't like showing goggle marks on your way out of the pool. I like them so much I bought 3 new pair a few weeks ago on Amazon - clear, smoke and metalized for whatever race day conditions bring. |

I read on here that snorkels are legal for USAT events. There was a thread or two about it a little while back. I'd have to look again to make sure I read it correctly. |

If they even start to fog up, one little dunk it all it takes and they won't fog again. Right now I only have the smoke, since I live in FL and my pool is outdoor. |

I read on here that snorkels are legal for USAT events. There was a thread or two about it a little while back. I'd have to look again to make sure I read it correctly. OK, I lied: USAT Competitive Rule 4.9, entitled Illegal Equipment states: Any swimmer wearing any artificial propulsion device, including but not limited to fins, gloves, paddles, or floating devices of any kind shall be disqualified. There is nothing in the rules that explicitly excludes snorkels, only propulsion and flotation devices. Even the clause including but not limited to is still only specific to propulsion devices, which snorkels can hardly be considered. Then~ Individual triathlon events, like the WTC-owned Ironman series, can request dispensations from USAT. There are basically exceptions or additions to USAT rules (these dispensations were the cause the recently-mended feud between the WTC and USAT). The USAT dispensations for Ironman events do explicitly ban snorkels. The fascinating thing about this is that the WTC recognizes the snorkel loophole in the USAT rules, and has to request a specific ban in their dispensations. THE MENTOR GETS SCHOOLED |

Just sayin'. I wouldn't, but that's because I'm nice HAHA |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The only reason I remember it was because someone was doing a tri and he had Cystic Fibrosis and a few other health problems with previously fractured disks and he could not turn to breath during swimming like most people could. It just stuck in my mind because I have a friend with a few boys with cystic fibrosis and I can't imagine them doing a tri, so this one guy using a snorkel must be AWESOME and totally inspiring! |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() There was a brief description of the bike (a 2011) and this link: http://www.feltbicycles.com/USA/2012/Fit-Woman/ZW-Series/ZW95.aspx I remember reading good reviews of this bike when I started searching. I don't know much about sizing but the ad says the woman is 5'4 (like I am) and it's the prefect size for her so I am hoping it fits me too. She also said it's a 43 1/2 but not sure what that measures? And what are "candy clips" ?

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Candy clips are those clips you see in the picture- they're the kind you slide your feet into as opposed to clipping in with an SPD or Speedplay cleat. Bike looks like a great one for you!!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh, and 43 1/2 is the size of the frame in CM. For comparison, I ride a 62cm bike (I'm 6'5). First thing to do when you see it, stand over the top tube and make sure it's not in your crotch and not 6 inches below your crotch. Sorry if that sounds graphic.... |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No, that's great advice, thanks! Excited about the bike now!

I don't think he listed an event, just said he was training for a tri and needed to know about the legality of a snorkel. I'll see if I can find it after we get back from the book fair. |

My bike fitter told me that more importantly than the "stand over" test is being able to reach the handle bars without feeling stretched. When I was looking at bikes most everyone put me on a 54, several put me on a 56 and one or two even put me on a 58 just based off of my stand-over (I'm only 5'7, but my inseam is something like 34, so all legs and no torso)! In reality, when I actually bought a bike and had a true bike fitting, I ended up on a 51. I have tons of "crotch room", but because my torso is shorter, they had to put a shorter stem on it in order to get the correct measurements for reach and a 51 was as small as they could go without me looking like I was on a clown bike! Good luck! I'm totally excited for you and REALLY hope that it fits you! |

So far I can't find anything to complain about other than its not making me insanely faster, but I think my problem probably isn't the bike. If it fits and you like it, it looks like a great bike. |
