Got a finish line  on Saturday.  Sunfish tri in Meridian MS.  9th out of my age group of 27.  Very pleased since I haven't run on my foot in almost 6 weeks.  Finished in under 1:30.

Thanks for everyones concerns and comments in support during my foot issues time.  I am schedule  to have a steroid shot in the foot this afternoon.  Anyone have experience with that?

More that 15 years ago, I was suffering from a total frozen shoulder.  The third time the dr shot me full of juice it triggered some kind of reaction where all of the pores the right side of my body instantly opened and I was soaking wet on one side.  No explanation from the Dr.

The steriod shot will block pain in soft tissues like joints and tendon sheaths and helps with inflamation.  The body adapts to each injection.  The first being the most effective and then diminishing returns.

Get well soon.

Injection done.  Not as bad as I expected.  Foot actually feels better, I think.  Foot also hurts where injection was made.  Needle pain I am sure.  Watch out, lot of training to catch up on.

Hey all,

I'm back from more than 2 weeks of bliss!!

Caught up on the postings.  Pam, yours is most memorable, you nailed it!!

Billy, glad the trip was good.  Sorry to hear about the foot.  Hope the injection is helping.  I recently got one in my ITB and have less pain but it was mostly painful to touch, not while training. Was hoping to help an apparent leg length discrepancy which is really my hips are off but have not had time to go to physical therapy to work on it.  Oh well.

Bryan, I hope the ribs, hip and general body is healing.  Never heard how that bike ride attempt went.  Sounded a little premature to me but I don't know what the time line has been.

The count down is on for IMAZ, I can feel the excitement for that and IM KTY.  KTC, just go for the YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!  Forget the time.  Be a finisher.  It's an awsome endeavor.  Think of it as a really long workout.  We will be praying for you!!

I had a decent race when I first got to the Adirondacks.  A .5 mile sswim in a beautiful but choppy lake.  I got a bit off course but still had a respectable time.  The ride was 18 miles of up and down hills and the run was a 10k of the same.  I walked up the hills and ran down the other side.  It was a small venue and alot of fun.  I haven't even looked at my times yet.  Then the over eating and drinking began.  I still swam, ran or biked most days.  Even did a 1.4 mile swim across our lake.  Really fun.  I did it with my 19 yo male neighbor who kicks my butt on a mountain bike when we ride.  I was glad to at least finish before him in the lake swim.  I just got back from a beautiful time out East, close to Montuak POint.  Did a true Sprint on Sunday.  It was great!!  Had an iffy swim.  My cap kept slipping taking my goggles with it.  Had to fix it multiple times. The heart rate is a significant limiter.  Avge HR on the run was 176, I think.  (Hit 185 at one point) Can't go any faster when I can't breathe.  Getting a Halter monitor next week.  Anyway, a real fun race.  Race reports sometime this week I hope.  I have lots of work hours coming up in the next 2 weeks, rightly so.

Oh, fat to tri, great job on your tri!!  Don't go rushing into signing up for a tri to get some hills in, just try training on some hills.  They are brutal.  I did a bunch of hill training in the Adirondacks and it was killer on many levels.

I have one more tri this season in Sept.  It is an Oly and I am making it my A race.  Let the training continue.....

Have fun every one and don't get hurt!!

Congrats to everyone on their races.  Sounds like some good things going on.

Billy, glad to hear the foot feels better.  A friend of mine got a shot in her knee when she was having problems.  It helped her for about 6 months before the effect wore off.  I hope you have the same or better results with your shot.

I'm back from the mission trip I went on (not near as exciting as Billy's - we only went to Oklahoma).  Luckily, the schedule worked out where I could run every morning, but no biking or swimming while I was gone.  Got in the pool last night and it felt great.  Swam 3100 and could have kept going.  I'm ready to get back on the bike as well.  Just hope the rain goes away as it has been raining here almost daily for a little over a week now.  We need the rain, but it interrupts my training.

Hi Everyone, I feel like I have been gone for weeks!

Ann, great job on your race!

Billy, hope the shot works.  I don't believe you have lots of training to catch up on, you are doing a great job.

Briana, it is nice to know you can still do missionary work and still train.

Last Friday as we were boarding our flight I ran into Scott Rigsby, the double leg amputee and Ironman Finisher.  Of course I had to talk to him and I got my picture taken with him.  What a great guy he is.

Also, I got to run with Lena last weekend!   It was so great to finally meet one someone from the group.  Hopefully, one day I will get to meet all of you.Smile

Billy I hope your foot is feeling better.  after the initial pain at the time of injection, relief should come pretty quick.

Brian, how are you doing?

Everyone else congrats on the finishes!

I have sort of succumbed to a doing nothing phase after the euphoria of my HIM race almost 2 weeks ago (this includes not writing a race report).  Do I continue triathlon training or do I go back to kickboxing?  I think I should sign up for another race so I have something to look forward to?

Have you just continued training for another race?  I am going to IMFL to volunteer, I will be catching between 12 noon and 6pm.  My friends are trying to convince me to sign up for IMFL 2013, so we can train and do it in a group....  Not sure at all...

A quick Bryan update. My crash was four weeks ago. I have 5 weeks to Canada. I haven't swam in a month (ribs - still). I haven't run more than 25 yards in a month (hip and ribs). And I have ridden twice - once for 60 mins and once for 90.

I am going to try a short run tomorrow. I am worried but the plan is go to the land of the Canuck and see what happens.

The doc says the nerve damage in the hip could take a year to heal. It is still swollen and painful to the touch but the bruising is gone.

If anyone wants to see one KILLER bruise let me know and I will send you an almost pornographic shot but the bruise was too incredible to not document. My brother saw the bruise live at its peak and asked when I was selling my bike. HA - NEVER.

I am pot committed (for you poker players) and ALL IN.

I just got back from 10 days on the beach. I am also 6 pounds heavier than 4 weeks ago. I have a bunch of stuff to do. Let's go!!!

Bryan,

I hope your road to full recovery will be quicker than it sounds.  I will be rooting for you during IM Canada.

Billy, has your foot improved yet?

I just signed up for 2 other tris, a sprint on Sep 1 and an olympic on Oct 23 all a stone's throw away from my house.  I am not shipping bikes anymore.

I went for a first run today, not as smooth as I hoped but at least I got out the door.

I guess I will be doing this for a while....

Catching up on posts...

Billy, SO glad to hear that you may be able to do Louisville..  The shot sounds awful.  How are you holding up, dude? Don't make me have to bring you cake to a hospital or smth now!

Bryan, what you are describing sounds terrible! Of course I'd love a pic! [email protected]   So are you still going to try to go and participate? have you considered maybe just pulling out? it really sounds like one of those situations when it might be best... I know, I don't have a leg to stand on (literally) when I ran a marathon 3 weeks after breaking a toe, but you sound like pain city right now.. don't want you to get hurt more... Either way, we support you and will be cheering you on, whatever you decide to do

It was fantastic to meet Kathy last weekend and have her run with us!  I'll be back later (read: tomorrow) to post our pic

Lena - the pain is mostly gone with both hip and ribs. I am testing things right now to see if I can get there. I will not cause long term damage. The final decision on racing will be made later. Thanks for your words.

Bryan, the shot was actually in my toe as well!  Painful!

I never said I wasn't doing the race in Louisville, actually rode the course yesterday.  Long and hot, horrible traffic, parade detours, festival stops, road construction, flat tires etc etc.

Bryan, I hope you get to heeling real quick.  Part of me wants to see that bruise of yours and the other common sense part of me tell me nah I better not look at it.  Take it easy and let the body heel.

Billy, I was thinking you were going to Louisville next weekend.  Towards the end of the week it sounded like it was going to be a terrible weekend of training with all the events that was happening around.

Completed one of three high intensity training weeks  before I taper and I am feeling it.  My body hurts and I am tired.  I might cut back this week some and see how I recover.

Bryan, I know you will, but be smart with the training.  I did the Katy Flatland Century yesterday with Patrick and at one point there was a rider down.  It always makes you wonder what they are training for and you hope it doesn't mess up their big event.  Hopefully adrenaline will kick in and you can at least participate in IM Canada.

Sounds like everyone else is training well.  Keep it up.
