It was in one of the IMTX groups. They also said that it's been so worn down by cars that it isn't that bad anymore. We shall see I guess. |

Might sound compulsive but I might drive this part of the course on Friday to check it out. If each of us make a few passing in the car we can smooth it some more :-) |

Well....everyone except me. Y'all just let me know. |

What are you guys going to do to pass the time I'm driving in early Thursday AM, pick up packet and check in, then to the hotel and I'll be doing a short ride then a detail on my bike and setting up T1 and T2 bags, then the welcome dinner, then getting some sleep... Friday turn in the bike and the practice swim, then maybe the mall or the little shops, setting up my SN bags, then some meditation and hopefully get to bed early. With that said... What are you guys putting in your SN bags? Anything weird? I'm thinking of putting in some slices of pizza, some uncrustables, and maybe some cookies or anything I feel I might be craving the next day while starving.

How much does this thing cost to rent? I thought there is an way to track athletes through the IM website? Hmm... I might rent one too then. It is roughly 40 bucks which includes the device/service, shipping to and from. I used it last year and it worked well. My friend at Galveston used it and I was able to track her really well! It can be a minute or so off so get to the location before the dot. With a race like IM you can definitely plan your day out better knowing where they are. At this point I am not sure you can order it as it has an 8 day out policy. Last year I used a velcro loop strip that is used for organizing electronic cords to secure the device to my race belt and then an easy switch to my water belt. Been doing some cold open water swims without a wetsuit to prepare for the 18th. This weekend I might do a wetsuit swim just to prepare for a possible 76.0 water temp race morning |

Li0nel1234 - You're right about the tracking through Ironman's website. However, in my n=1 experience (for a HIM), the tracking did not show up at all until well after the race. This device everyone's referring to allows for almost constant tracking on the bike and run while the IM tracking (if working properly) is probably one checkpoint after the swim into T1, 1 checkpoint at the halfway point and end of the bike, and then at the completion of each lap on the run (and of course the finish). Also, I don't know how quickly Ironman's tracking website is updated...guessing there's at least a few minutes (if not much more) lag to it. Not to mention helping people know where to be and when if they're out there watching, it's also at least a small amount of entertainment for anyone that's wondering how you're doing out there whether they're at the race or not. I'd love this as a spectator for people I knew out there. I'm sure the company is digging all this publicity on BT! Looks like you can order today still. I ordered last night and they've already sent me shipping information...little worried about the hotel screwing this up since it seems like the package will arrive before I will... |

Bike special needs gets the second half of my race day nutrition, some Fig Newtons and a spare innertube and CO2 cartridge in case I flat on the first half of the course. Run SN gets some chicken broth and some more fig newtons. I get in Wendesday late morning. Drive to the venue, check-in, probably drive some of the course, get in an early morning run. Thursday is head down to the venue again just because, drive the whole bike course and maybe some of the run, get in a short bike ride, make it to the athlete meeting. Friday is practice swim, short bike ride or run depending, drive the bike course again, some or all of the run course (as possible), get dinner, and an early night. I really can't find much "to do" around houston that I enjoy so this could be a very light-touristy trip. |

Looks like the hotel I'm at has a pool so probably going to try to "heat acclimate" some there to pass the time! :-) Otherwise, probably obsessively reorganiing my gear as many times as possible. |

I really can't find much "to do" around houston that I enjoy so this could be a very light-touristy trip. They have chicken broth on the 2nd and 3rd loops of the run. That might also depend on how fast you are when they have it. A spare tube and co2 in the bike SN bag is the only thing I would put in there besides a sandwhich if you really think you need it. On the run I would put some kind of treat you like and a pair of socks. With all of the water and sweat that run off into your shoes, your feet will be wet! I didnt want to stop to change but remember VERY wet socks last year. Though there are 3 loops on the run you can only access your SN bag once so use it wisely. |
