Yeah, I've always thought the AT hike would be cool, too... but doesn't look like it's gonna happen anytime in my near future. I like the section hike plan, though. I should be hitting the AT soon... love to go when the leaves change. And no, they really haven't started changing much here yet!

Holy carp - ours are almost PAST prime! The big tourist weekend is this coming one, though. Good thing the scenery around my house is absolutely stunning, and not one out of towner knows about it - or could get their RV to it!

Okay, so I didn't get the best look at the table yesterday because my kid goes and face plants on the sidewalk! What is going on??? He has a new nickname, Stitch. He's usually not my klutzy, accident prone kid so I am not sure what to think. I do think the classroom is fine, he just had a freak accident. Crazy!

Sounds to me like he's growing. Hope you've got new clothes lying in wait! Actually, probably more like new shoes, as I bet his feet are too big for his body. For some reason boys are especially funny when they go through that stage.

It definitely takes a lot of heads up prep time to take 6-7 months away from work to get it done, but it's the experience of a lifetime.

I haven't been backpacking yet this year, just a few overnights. I'm looking forward to getting more time in this fall though.

It sure does. My friend seriously considered going off and doing it with absolutely zero prep, until I informed her that for large sections, there aren't reliable grocery stores. Food drops are your only option. She rethought it, but I think she still wishes she'd just gone and done it.

I can't do the whole six months with no income (too much debt), but it's really the idea of hiking solo for that long. Not for me. Also not sure I'd do well hiking with other people for that long.

(overnight hiking, not thru the AT)

we live only about 20-30 mins from the trail.

I literally drove across the AT every day to/from work. Now I have to go a whopping five miles out of my way to get there. I'm a Boundary Corridor monitor, which means I clear and maintain the signs around the edge of the AT - stuff you (almost) never see form the trail. It is cool work, even more behind-the-scenes than typical trail work. Rewarding to know I'm protecting a major national area.

I just found out they changed the race course of the 5K I've been training for next weekend. I know it's only a 5K, but I really wanted to set a PR on this course and now they've switched it around. Doing a practice run this week to scope out the new course.

Oh stink! Hate it when that happens. Hope the training run goes/went well.
