triguynewbie - 2008-11-19 1:56 PM I just spent an entire day cleaning out my little fish pond and replacing the pump and timer for the waterfall and lights. The weather is great for sitting outside and enjoying it now.
oooh, I want one...but my dogs would tear it apart.  They already took out most of the lighting.

FYI-I learned a while back that plants that are lit at night have a much more difficult time preparing for winter.  The artificial light overides the daylength change and the hormone changes are not triggered.  Not as relevant for you, but my parents new house has a couple of spotlights on the front that light the entire cul-de-sac...and the front yard.  I need to swap them for motion sensitive lights-which means more time in the attic... I am so thrilled.

Next up...Field trip.

Where did you field trip to?

A private residence in the next town over. It was a regular sized lot that had an amazing garden-tons of stuff, but it didn't feel crowded. It was very peaceful-I felt like I was in a forest area near a stream...he had 5 different water features.

Sounds beautiful!

It is. Of course, now there are a few more plants on my need to have list...and they run at several hundred dollars apiece-and that is if you get them when they are little.

You couldnt just grap a little sprig while you were there. Note: I am botanically challenged however I do understand that not all plants can be grafted or whatever term you peeps use.

Technically yes, but most people don't look favorably on you taking cuttings from their plants.

You wouldn't even need to graft it-many plants can develop roots from their undeveloped buds(but don't quote me on that).

Yup get the cuttings, put it in water for a bit to keep them happy and then you can get cutting mix stuff to add to the water and transfer them to a small amout of soil (old milk cartons are great) or mix or Ive seen it done with cotton wool (but Im not sure what you put on the cotton apart from water) and they start to develop roots

When they get strong you can replant them and off they go!  Of course you remove most of the leaves initially so they dont suffer from too much water loss...

It is how we get most of the perennial plants for our plant sales.

I love weekends just because I know I'll be able to take a nap.  I *heart* a good nap.

Me too - wish i could kick out the flat mate for a weekend... that woud be sooo relaxing!!!

Im just really run down - there have been some colds/flus going around the office and I wonder if Ive picked up the edge of one which is why Im feeling a bit icky but not sick as such.

Id like a low stress, low hassles weekend!

I had to use the computer lab on campus today.  I sat down and could hear all these people sniffling and coughing.  I looked at the keyboard and mouse and almost didn't want to use them.  I am not a germaphobe, but I could practically see the piles of germs on those things.  Ick.  Cold and flu season is no fun.

Im ab it like that... not that Im a germaphobe i guess - but I really really need to NOT get sick because with my stomach condition anything that causes my immune system to ramp up and fight something seems to get my tummy playing up...

No fun!
