I was inspired by Nicole's play list and so I broke the Ipod for my AM ride/run... just wanted to share the high points...  btw...no Bonnie Tyler, Todd - sorry! Cool

Back In Black (AC/DC)... Ten Thousand Fists (Disturbed)... What I've Done - (Linkin Park)... Black Betty (Ram Jam)... Coming Undone (Korn)...Pyscho (puddle of Mudd)...The Distance (Cake)... Die MF'er Die (Dope)...Numb/Encore (Jay-Z & Linkin Park)...Welcome to the Jungle (GnR)...Crazy Train (Ozzy).

I haven't used the music for motivation in a while.  I seem to be the only one at Memorial Park yesterday...running without head phones!

Swim workout #1 in the books. The hardest thing for me is finding a place to swim. I have found 2 tri groups that do group coached sessions. Of course the one with the best price is the furthest away and swim at 6 am. The other one is closer to my work for lunch or afterwork swims are easy but 3x the amount. Of course the Ballys I joined to swim at, that said they were doing some work and will be filling the pool in 2 weeks has been 5 months and no pool.

I need to release the lead weights in my legs because they sink like rocks. I had 2 good pointers and worked on them the whole time. Looking forward to my next one already.

My legs used to sink really badly too- when learning how to swim I was told to focus on making my heels break the surface of the water every time I kick.  Not sure if it will help you or not, but the visual there got my legs up where they belong... most of the time.

Awesome!  I have an "oldies" playlist that has GNR, ACDC and Ozzie on it too.  Sorry man, but those are oldies.   (I'm gonna get it for that comment methinks)

ha ha ha...make fun of the old guy!  I like to use the term..."Classics", rather than "oldies"... that way they seem ageless... Kinda like how I hope to feel! Cool

I know we've talked about saddles before, but can we re-visit the topic?

My lady bits are STILL sore today from my ride on Tuesday night.  In a painful down to the bone kind of way.  I'm assuming, a better saddle might help that a bit.  I wear the diper shorts and slater on the lube and it just doesn't seem to be helping.

I'm wondering if it has more to do with the position/angle of the saddle and less to do with the actual saddle?  Thoughts/suggestions?  I'm going to bring the bike by a LBS today after work and get their input too, but I trust ya'll more since you're not trying to sell me anything.

Angle does make a huge difference, most people think angling down is better but I think it actually puts more pressure on well ya know....Try to make your seat completely flat if it's not already and that might help.  If you find yourself sliding forward/backwards on that something's probably off with your aero bars (to far or close respectively).

I would lean more towards fit as well.  You should be positioned on your sit (sp?) bones.  The nose of the saddle can be ever-so-slightly angled up, to help roll your hips forward.  If definitely requires tweaking.  If the LBS will let you try a ISM Adamo saddle, give it a shot.  They are expensive, but I have yet to hear or read negative things about them.  Terry makes women specific saddles as well and are quite renowned.

Nicole how much riding and how often are you partaking?  There is the "break in" period that you need to get used to.  I also suggest that you find a bike shop that has something set up to allow you to test saddles out.  In my experience the minimalist saddle rules the day.  The pics I attached are of my new and old saddle.  The white one is my current one a Bontrager XXX Lite, and teh black one is a Bontrager Race.  You can see the difference in padding.  also I compressed the padding on the front with my thumb to illustrate the difference there as well.  I know another guy that sits on a just a piece of Carbon Fiber with rails attached!  and yes he has 2 kids.  now I'm sure that in a womens case pad location is different.  I'm just sharing to show you that even minimal padding can be comfortable.  In fact that White XXX Lite is the best thing I have sat on!

Thanks for the tips on the saddle.  I went into the LBS the other day and they too feel that it's the angle and not necessiarily the saddle.  It looks like I actually need a whole new bike fit as I am comfortable being more aero now that I've lost weight and don't have a little budda on me, so that's scheduled for next week.

The guy also looked at my bike and looked at me and said- "so, when is the last time you cleaned your chain and had a tune up?"

Me: "uh, I think I bought it in 2006."

Him: "You realize your bike computer says you have over 5000 miles on your bike, right?"

Me: "Oh, I didn't get the computer until about 6 months in... why?"

Him: "Uh, we have bike maintenance classes for beginners once a month.  I think you should sign up."

So evidently more goes into my bike than just riding it.  Uh, oops.  Embarassed

I bet you have loads of the black grease monster hanging on your chain. lol I had the same thing. I did a class at my LBS and it was well worth it. It took me a few hours on the first big cleaning but I now actually have a silver chain instead of the black one. Smile

Too funny! Your job is to ride it... sounds like you need to send your hubby to bike maintenance class, and he can be your support team dude.  BTW, 5000 miles...  I think that might be pretty impressive... except that Eric probably has 10K in half the time... me, well I am still playing catch up to both of you!

Let us know how the new fit feels....  power, endurance, and oh yeah....girlee-bits. Embarassed

Any weekend Workout / Training Sessions planned?

For me... very weather dependent!  Especially since my pool is outside.  But if all goes well...

Swim and maybe a trainer ride Saturday...

another 45er (bike) on Sunday...with the possibility of a short transition run (20-25 minutes or one lap around memorial park).

I think I just thought it was supposed to be black?  With grass and dirt in it?  No...?  Maybe that's why it doesn't shift as smoothly as I feel like it should.

So does lounging by the pool drinking something that includes Captain Morgan and fruit juice count as a swim workout?

Somebody please tell me yes.

If that were me, and there were smokin' hot tri chicks swimming and I was spectating... I would list it as a spectator sport and list my elevated HR's...lol!

Lounging by the pool... It's 50 degrees, drizzly, and yucky here!  Can I just say, you suck! Sunny Florida - bah-humbug!  You can lounge after you swim or run or bike... now get after it!

Yeah I was the dude in the blue yesterday.  I always thought it would never happen to me and BOOM.  Saved me bike though so that's good.  I was riding my LeMond so the goods are still ok HEH.  Next weekend I will be in Chicago to see Armin Van Buuren, but the next weekend starts group riding season for us over here.  We are determined to have a good year.

Yeah Nicole sounds like you need to have your beast tuned up a tad.  I'm gunna go for a 3 mile or so group run today as well.

It could be next time if you can talk your friends into drunk relays....

split teammates evenly on each side of pool
chug your drink sprint across pool
repeat for each teammate

Losing team serves drinks to winning team for rest of the day

Oh Jesus.  I really think if I had gotten in the pool yesterday I would have drown.

In fact, somewhere there are incriminating photos of me holding a drink with floaties on my arms.

Yes folks, floaties.   I'm great fun lemme tell ya.

I have seen some of my old teammates who have olympic medals do drunk relays and barely cross the length of the pool so participate with caution!

And Epy- I think floaties should be allowed at Kona.   If they're not, I'll start the petition.

Either everyone is sleeping in (Spring Break) and/or getting rest after some aewsome training (evident in the logs) and/or everyone is having to actually work on this wonderful Monday Morning!  Something I have to do too, just procrastinating!
