papson14 - 2013-05-10 4:35 AM I get in wednesday, packet pickup, expo, grocery store than off to hang out in an empty hotel after a quick run. Thursday im going to check out Ironman 3 or star trek after an easy ride. Friday just chilling waiting for my wife to fly in, practice swim. Lots of legs up chilling in compression gear. What are you guys going to do to pass the time

Looks like the hotel I'm at has a pool so probably going to try to "heat acclimate" some there to pass the time! :-)  Otherwise, probably obsessively reorganiing my gear as many times as possible.

I packed and unpacked my transition bags so many times last year before turning them in. Makes race morning a snap. All you have to do is oil your chain, inflate your tires, and fill your drink and off you go to the swim start.

We are arriving in The Woodlands around noon on Thursday. Quick bite and hopefully able to check into hotel by 1-ish. Then head over to the IM Village to pick up packet then the dinner that night.

Friday is double checking my double checks for T1 and T2 bags and then bike/bag check, probably late morning. Was going to do the practice swim, but my shoulder is acting up and while it feels fine now, after my swims as of late....it's been really sore the next morning. I don't have time for any of that. LOL.

Not sure what the plan is for Saturday......

I'm driving in early Thursday AM, pick up packet and check in, then to the hotel and I'll be doing a short ride then a detail on my bike and setting up T1 and T2 bags, then the welcome dinner, then getting some sleep...

Friday turn in the bike and the practice swim, then maybe the mall or the little shops, setting up my SN bags, then some meditation and hopefully get to bed early.

With that said... What are you guys putting in your SN bags? Anything weird? I'm thinking of putting in some slices of pizza, some uncrustables, and maybe some cookies or anything I feel I might be craving the next day while starving.

Bike special needs gets the second half of my race day nutrition, some Fig Newtons and a spare innertube and CO2 cartridge in case I flat on the first half of the course.  Run SN gets some chicken broth and some more fig newtons.

I get in Wendesday late morning.  Drive to the venue, check-in, probably drive some of the course, get in an early morning run.  Thursday is head down to the venue again just because, drive the whole bike course and maybe some of the run, get in a short bike ride, make it to the athlete meeting.  Friday is practice swim, short bike ride or run depending, drive the bike course again, some or all of the run course (as possible), get dinner, and an early night.

I really can't find much "to do" around houston that I enjoy so this could be a very light-touristy trip.

They have chicken broth on the 2nd and 3rd loops of the run. That might also depend on how fast you are when they have it. A spare tube and co2 in the bike SN bag is the only thing I would put in there besides a sandwhich if you really think you need it. On the run I would put some kind of treat you like and a pair of socks. With all of the water and sweat that run off into your shoes, your feet will be wet! I didnt want to stop to change but remember VERY wet socks last year. Though there are 3 loops on the run you can only access your SN bag once so use it wisely.

In that case I may move it to my run transition bag.  They didn't have it at the early miles of the marathon in Louisville last year and I DNF'd, and in the medical tent that was all I got and it made me feel a ton better.  I could have gone out and kept running after that.

Just looked at the forecast for May 18.. 84F and possible strong thunderstorms… Very much like today and tomorrow's.

With that said, does anyone knows the rules for “weather impact”… Read the Athlete Guide again looking for something on the subject and couldn’t find anything… Maybe I missed it.

Really I just looked at weather underground and weather.com and there is a slight chance.

Talked to someone who raced last year and she indicated that you could access your Run SN bag on both loops?? Can anyone else who has done this race confirm or deny that?

bradleyd3 - 2013-05-01 2:12 PM Also....I went back thru and got bib #'s we posted and compiled a list. I know there are a ton more people that haven't given your number. If you want to be added to the list, just put your #/first name in.... 1914 - Thomas 2037 - Chris 2130 - Darwin 1799 - Scott 948 - Justin 2398 - Rachel 550 - Joseph 895 - Brad 956 - Shannon 340 - Jason 666 - since changed - Davis

Thanks for taking the hit on that one Davis.  I just checked my bib number today:  667.  Though I think it would have been a fun experience racing with 666.  if not a little foreboding.

In my SN bags I plan on following the "less is more" philosophy.  To be honest, I don't want to have to get off the bike once I start - that means I'll go "number 1" while riding. I might throw in some socks, a Red Bull and banana in my bike SN bag just in case I need a little treat but I don't plan on stopping.

It's a suck sandwich ladies and we are all going to gave to take a bite out of it.

My run SN bag I will have another pair of socks, maybe two, as I know my feet will get wet once I start putting ice in my pants and down my tri top.  Might be running with my old Marine Corps desert boonie cover (hat) since it's a motivator and keeps the sun off my head, neck and ears.

Wow, lots to catch up on here

MYAthlete - as others have said, it is definitely worth it. The wife can track me on her IPAD while out shopping or sitting by the pool while the kid plays for a while. Plus, I have family out of state and they love the tracker. It is well worth the cost and much more up to date than the IM tracker.

Arrival - Wednesday afternoon/early evening, depending on when I get out of Dallas. Plan for me is a nice hour ride on Thursday probably mid morning after 9-10am. Then go check in and fart around IM Village a bit and meet up with others from my group as they start to show up. Athlete Dinner Thursday evening. Friday is practice swim and quick run, then back to hotel to rest and get bags ready. Bike check in, then an early dinner with our tri group and back to hotel to try and be in bed by 9pm

Special Needs - I will probably have a PB&J sandwich in my special needs bag along with a banana just in case I want something different. but I havent used my SN Bike bag the first 2 years so I dont know I will hit it this year either. As for the run SN bag. as others have stated a fresh pair of socks is awesome! I also put a snack in there that I like to eat .. last year it was peanut M&Ms and a single serve container of pringles. On the 3rd lap, I changed socks and ate a few chips and a few of the M&Ms .. it was really good!

I havent even thought about packing yet, but will start that process on Monday. Just need to get through my weekend workouts and then I can focus on getting everything ready for the trip down.

IronTrac is an app I've used in the past to track folks.  It updated faster than the IM website, however, it didn't work at Austin 70.3 last year.  Something about Ironman changing their live tracking format and the app developer wasn't notified in time.

It doesn't show your position on a map but it does give the same splits as IM live tracking and it's only $.99.

I believe you can access the bag whenever you want but once you get it you cant get it again. This was something we were told at the banquet if I remember correctly. With the mention of multiple people wearing headphones etc. last year on the run...sounds like rules are overlooked but I will not be riskying it. If you plan by the rules you wont be dissappointed if something comes up.

I know a big thing last year was no compression gear on the legs/arms during the swim. I was one of the last in the water because I didnt want to tread for 10 minutes. Saw numerous people just have to throw out their sleeves.

I'd buy that t-shirt. I have added that to my list of BT quotes - right after the one about something being a "goat-rope".

I'm positive I saw that you could (it was either on this thread or in the athlete guide....which I've read several times....both last years and this years).

However, I think that it was mentioned here but the lines were long to get to them.

My coach says for all 5 of hers she has been allowed access and my buddies who did IMTX last year say there were allowed access as well.

To all of you that plan to go on at least one ride in the Woodlands after you arrive...

Do you anticipate riding a part of the actual bike course?  Or part of the run course?  If part of the bike course, since I'm not familiar with this area at all, is this area pretty congested with auto traffic?  Are there tons of other riders out there during the week because of the event to where I wouldn't be alone out there?  What's the best time to do this on either Thursday or Friday?  Sorry, that's lots of questions...

I plan to come down on  Thursday early morning to miss the rush hour traffic in Dallas as I head out of town and check in to the race right when I get there to get it out of the way .  The I guess I'll just hang out until my room's ready...maybe go on a ride then.  Going to the banquet Thursday night, practice swim Friday with all 2000 other people seemingly, then just killing time before and after checking bike and gear bags in until family arrives that evening...sounds like just about everyone else.
