I imagine every neighborhood has an annoying resident.  In our 'hood' we call her "The French Lady" (because she's an old lady... and she's French).  The French Lady is as nosy as they come and our Home Owners Association cringes when she leaves her door stoop.  Of course for years my Sons have exasperated this old lady's complaining by harassing her whenever possible so she knows our telephone number by heart.  Well, today the French Lady left us a voice message saying "a man is running around in front of our house dressed in a strange costume with a mask on and someone in shorts keeps chasing him on the Chief's bicycle".  She also said not to worry as she had already informed the Police Department.   The Patrol Officer and I had a great laugh as I explained my son was timing Transitions… and the strange outfit had to have been my wetsuit, cap and goggles.  What a hoot for a Friday!

Early this morning I did get to the pool and had a short dreadmill jaunt.  Will update the log shortly.  Full rest day tomorrow followed by my first race.  I’M STOKED!  Best wishes to everyone else racing this weekend and thanks for all the support.

That's great! I wish I was sitting out front in a lawn chair, drinking a beer, and watching that show!

"xx days IOT'' not sure what you mean.

I don't have a current subscription, but was able to go through the process to place an item for sale.

What I mean is do you have to be a member for a certain # of days in order to (IOT) create a thread in that forum.   Nevermind, I found where it says 30 day minimum to post.

Haha... KISS for simple minds (me)!

sweet.  is it a m.BT.com type formatting or does it look like shite on the phone?

Looks exactly like BT does on the computer. Pretty cool. I just need to figure out how to operate the fun now!

So...How was everyone's April?

Did you accomplish what you wanted?  Are your goals changing for May?

Do you have any races in May?

April was a tough month for me. I actually feel quite short of my goals.

Bike: 260 - 300 was target
Run: 40 - 50 was target
Swim: 18k - 30k was target
1 OWS - 4 was target

In retrospect, I can identified a couple factors that waylaid my training. One, the weather. It seemed to be raining on all of my days off. Second, I had a few higher intensity days that reuired a rest day afterward.

Oh well, done with the excuses.

Two races for sure in May. 24 hours of Cool tomorrow. Xterra Del Valle on May 8th.

April was a great month -- first month of training!

On the swim, I can now actually swim and breath properly.  It's ugly, but at the beginning of the month could not even do 25 m.  Have now managed to do 150 m non-stop.

On the bike, I bought a roadie and went on several 20 mile rides.

On the run, managed to run at the 9 minute pace and yesterday had my first run ever -- in my life -- where I finished with no pain in the legs.

Sunday, my wife, son, and I all do a mini-sprint.  Wife's looking to survive, I'm looking to have a good workout, son's looking to win -- kid's 15 and a runner (5:10 top mile so far this year!)

Thanks to all for the tips and encouragement.

Congrats...that is fantastic!!!!  Nice to see your enthusiasm has not waned.

Good luck to the Croix family on Sunday!!!!!

Hey bud, Like your way of thinking.  You set a goal.  You did not meet it, analysed why & moved on...

You have a plan and that is important (NOTE everyone).  Hope everyone else has a general plan for their training.

Woke up to sunshine and did a final gear check.  My little one (fashion-ista) made a last minute gear change... swapping out a white singlet for black tank & shorts.  I'll wear whatever she wants as long as she is still excited to wake up early tomorrow morning.Smile

Headed out to breakfast with the family then over to the Expo to check-in followed by the Children's Film Festival at Balboa Park.  What an awesome day this is going to be!

I'm all set...

Eh...forgot why I came here. Now I remember:

Has anyone ever had post-race letdown? I can't seem to get motivated to do my training this week. What's wrong with me?

I love training, and I not only do it for racing, but for another, more important reason: I have a neurological "disorder" called tinnitus (it's where your ears ring constantly and it bugs the holy heck out of you until you feel like you will go insane), and I've found that getting my HR up for extended periods of time makes the ringing go away - so I really have no choice but to train.

I just feel kind of "eh" right now. I need to get over this as I've got two sprints coming-up the first two weekends in June.

I think that is common after a race.  For a "big" race, I usually take it easy for a week & then try & start back it.

The other part of this, is "race expectations".  You have the right attitude, the training is what counts.  The race is just a chance to show you can do it.  Something to push for.  It reality it , it means very little.  I don't put too much emphasis on it.

Pullup your socks, girl, & get going!!!!

OK folks, just home from the race and a breakfast with the family.  My wife, son and I all did the mini-sprint.  For Sonya and I it was our first time.  For Alex it was his second event having done a sprint last summer.

Sonya did great.  She took it nice and easy and finished in just under 45 minutes.  She has not done any significant training and still finished with no problem.  She was the top finisher in her age group (we'll not mention to her that she was also the only finisher!)

Alex COULD have had an incredible race.  As is, he did very well finishing 6th out of 66 participants.  His swim was 13th which is awesome given that he does NOT swim.  Bike is where he had a big problem as he went down HARD and has a nice case of road rash.  When he went down he had moved up to 2nd place / only one guy ahead of him even though he started back in around 15th place.  He was absolutely flying and likely would have been 1st or second on the bike.  As is, he finished 17th.  His T2 suffered as he only had one hand, but he toughed it out.  He was hurting on the run, but still finished 2nd in the run with a time of 7:32 for the 1.3 miles.  Overall he finished about 3.5 minutes off of the winning time.  If he didn't go down, he'd have been right there.  Not bad for a 15 year old!

My race went great.  I'd hoped to do the swim in about 4 minutes, the bike in 18, and the run in 12 minutes with 2 minutes in transition for a 36 minute total.  Hit 4:08 on the swim, 17:38 on the bike, and 10:22 on the run.  Transitions took 2:35.  Total was 34:44 so I was under target by more than a minute.  Swim was just like a normal workout.  I REALLY need to learn how to swim as it's pretty ugly.  Bike went exceptionally well as I stayed in the lower gears and kept the cadence up.  Biggest issue on the bike was clipping in and turning around.  Really screwed up both.  Coming out of the bike I was a bit winded and made a mistake in T2 by eating 1/2 granola bar.  Stupid thing stuck in my throat for the entire run.  Run felt really, really hard as I was struggling settling down in to a breathing rhythm the entire time.  However, the run time was great!   Time on the treadmill, stationary bike, and road is paying off.  Transitions were pretty ugly due to lack of practice; however, not too worried about this.  Promised myself that I would take this one easy and not try to overplan / over analyze.  After the race, was back down to "normal" (i.e. no hard breathing, no muscle pain) within just a couple of minutes.

Appreciate all of the support and encouragement.  I'll need to make some major strides in swimming and base for the July sprint, but today was a great start.

Barely slept last night cuz of spidy senses tingling... How stpid was that cuz' I had a friggen' blast today!  Stuck in the last wave didn't help with nerves but (like Tim said I would) I killed the swim... totally mashed the bike... and as expected, the run hurt me... but I held out in a 1/4 mile sprint battle to save 2nd place in my AG.  Real RR coming later (or tomorrow).  Wifey hasn't mastered taking pics
while cheering so here are a few to prove I was there Tongue out.  ?Thanks for all your support??!??????

Well... this was probably the hardest race I have ever done! I completed 11 laps, which is 135 miles and 18700 ft of climbing. I could of gone one more lap, but it would of been useless since I couldn't catch the guy in front of me.

I learned a lot. I'll share the experience when I get home.

I'm thoroughly beat!
