Hey all - Finished my little ride in the mountains 150 miles in 11:58:30.  Rolling time just under 10 hours.  The last 20 miles in 65 minutes was the hard part.  Well the second mountain pass was harder and the third pass was the hardest part. I was still able to finish the last mile with a green light sprint.  Where does it come from.  Just when you think you've used the last spark of energy, the flame rises again.

just for grins - Livestrong calorie counter estimates my ride around the mountain burned 14,280 calories.

Can't believe all I missed in a few days!!

Hey Fit, awesome!!  What a feat.  You look great!!  You are biking.

LRR, wow!  You are wise.  I was afraid you wouldn't be but you came through again, this time for your self.  No pity here, just admiration.  Doubt I could meet up with you folks in AZ, but hey, you never know!  I'm still praying for a complete healing for you.  I know you will touch many by not racing as much as you do racing.  Keep us posted in your recovery.

Why does this Steve guy sound familiar??  We welcome him.

Got my race reports done, finally.  My 3 day bike ride became 1.5 secondary to torrential downpours with lightning.  Oh well, it was still beautiful.  Back to training for my Sept Oly.  Excited for it!!

Lena, keep on rocking.  Hope that foot is feeling better.

Pam, how are you s/p RI?  Would you do it again??  Did you like the race?  Is there a race report I could look at?

Fat to tri?  how is Wash DC??

Thank you Bryan for the invite to the group.  I appreciate it. As I mentioned in my brief bio, I am a beginner triathlete having completed two oly distance races, and a few sprints. I have been in the sport for a little over a year. I also joined a local club this year - this as been a great experience. Not only do I get to train weekly with other people, but I learn so much from the other athletes with more experience and knowledge.

my goals are to continue to progress in this sport, maintaining an healthy, active lifestyle and to ultimately complete an Ironman. I really would like to be able to do that in 2014 at IM Lake Placid. Is that too lofty of a goal based on the time frame? I thought I could do a 1/2 or two next year, then a full in 2014 (a goal for my 40th bday).

Thank you all for a warm welcome and inspiration. I look forward to sharing my path.

Steve

Welcome to the group Steve!

For someone who is new to the sport you have done quite a bit already.  Congratulations and having the 2014 Ironman goal is not too lofty at all.

Only 23 more days till my big debut!

Steve, I think your goal of an Ironman for your 40th birthday is an excellent idea (especially since I did the same for my 40th in 2010)!!  Welcome to the group.

Steve - welcome. I did my first for my fiftieth. Forty is a great reason. Figure a way to come see us at IMAZ this year or next year.

We have another guy checking out joining us as well. I will intro Troy if he decides to hang out with us.

Kathy - be smart these next three weeks.

G'day guys, my name is Troy & I'm from from Australia (yes, that small Olympic bronze medal nation from down under) and I've joined this BT forum on Bryan's invitation. Gonna do an IM in May next year having only previously done 1x Oly and 1x 70.3 and recognise I am so out of my depth right now. Started builfing my training 5 weeks ago when I rego'd and stepped on the scales at over 110kg (or 242 pounds). Have lost 6kg (13 pounds) since this time by counting, reducing calories and building run volume. My principal goal is to finish but the journey of developing a healthier lifestyle is what I am looking fwd to the most. I'm 38, married, with three kids (ages 11, 8 and 7) and work in stressful financial planning business. That's me.

It's been quiet here for a few days. What's up???

It's been a couple of years since we did this but several of you have big races upcoming - would you all like to do a conference call to go over some thoughts of race day. Some logistic ideas. Answer questions. Look at what to expect and begin to lay out an execution strategy? The call could apply to any race distance but focus on 70.3 and 140.6.

Let me know the interest level and whether a weeknight or weekend would be better and preferred time of day. We will do our best to make it work for all interested.

Hey KTC,  I've been pondering the best montra to share with you.  I use many. The spiritual part of me loves, "I can do all things through Christ who strenghtens me"  I use that a lot!! However, another good one is,

‎"There will come a day when you can no longer do this -- today is NOT that day"

I hope you are up to tapering.  You have worked so hard!!  I'll be thinking and praying for you and the others!!

Enjoy it!!  It's awful in a good kind of way.  I'm so envious and proud of you!!

Welcome to Steve and Troy!!

Thank you so much Ann!

I know I am tapering, I just don't feel like I am tapering as I am just as busy as when I was doing crazy hours of training. The big difference that I am noticing is how much I am sleeping and how I am having no problems sleeping in to 6:30 each morning. I can't believe the big day is almost here, I am very excited that it is near but also scared to death and wish I had 6 more months. I was interviewed by our small town newspaper yesterday and she told me that I couldn't stop smiling while I was talking about my journey and how I figure the day will play out.

Welcome Troy and Steve.

Just completed the most miles I have ever run in a week 85. Legs a little tired but over all not as beat up as I thought. 2 100 mile weeks coming up in the next 4 weeks so we will see how that goes. Havent swam or biked this year really except for the couple of tri's I did this year. Planning on starting on tri training again after my marathon. I signed up for the Kona HIM. Anybody here do it or know much about it? Also want to compete for our clubs title next year.

Been AWOL for a while. since my HIM I have run a few times and that was it.  I am on my way back from a 2.5 week vacation in HI, thought I would do something but other than sleeping a lot, hiking a lot and enjoying my family I have not done much.  I just caught up on the posts...

Welcome to the new guys.

Kathy-

Enjoy the race, seems to me you are ready and able after all your training.  I look forward to following your progress during the day.

Bryan- I am sure you are at peace with your decision and hope you can let your body heal.

A conf call sounds good, it would be fun to hear everyone.  Not that I have anything coming up of importance but it would be motivational for me.  I did sign up again for a sprint (labor day weekend, so I better get going again) and an olympic after that.

Not sure what 2013 will bring...  but sure that I am not jumping to full IM yet.

phil-   My bf did the Kona HIM last year and loved it.   if you want more info let me know and I can connect the two of you.  Are you on iamtri by any chance, he's more active on that.

Bryan, what day are you thinking of?  I too would love to just hear everyone's voice!

I will try to post the article that was written about me on the site here.  I'm just waiting for it to be posted on line so I can just send everyone the link.

That will work for me, Bryan!

Okay if you thought I was freaking out before I am totally freaking out now!  We had our house on the market since the beginning of the year and as I have been predicting all along we got an offer tonight.  We are going to counter tomorrow and feel that we can come to agreement in the next few days.  All I can think of is all the things we have to do between now and 14 day and now between when we close.   We know we want to move to South Carolina and we have an area picked out but that is about it.  Oh I don't think sleep will come tonight.

Hey guys,

I'm really struggling.  My son's girlfriend's mother was hit and killed on her bike this week end.  She was a friend of mine as well.  It is so devastating.  Husband and friend of 24 yrs, duaghter 19, and son 14.  She was so fit, healthy and energetic.  just a recreational rider.  Hit from behind and killed instantly when she hit the ground.  (23 yo male, rushing to work, truly an accident that he will have to live with the rest of his life)  A worship leader in her her church, a talented photographer, dear friend, mother, etc.  She spoke into my son's life in a powerrful way.  Please pray for comfort for this hurting family.  Help us see the good that I know will come out of it.  Let's slow down and be safe in all you do.  I'll will be praying for you all as well. Thanks,

ann

Sounds like everyone is busy, busy, busy.  I've been out of town the past two weekends for weddings (but still getting the workouts in) and will be out of town again this weekend for a soccer tournament (workouts this weekend will be a little more tricky).  Keep up the good work everyone!

Ann, I am so sorry to hear about your son's girlfriend mother.  It is terrible that we all can't share the road safely.  I will be praying for you and for the family as you all work through this terrible tragedy.  It is things like this that totally freak me out on the bike and perhaps why I ride with caution instead of all out.
