My son, the triathlete!

So I've gotten two out of my three children to join me in this madness!!  If I can just convince the hubby and my other son, we'll be a family of madmen (and women)!!!!

So here's what it's like to be me in a tri...
Swim: Just put your head down and go until someone in a kayak tells you you're going the wrong way. When you round the last turn with 200 yards to the finish, wonder why there are no other swimmers ahead, or getting out of the lake.
T1: It's really easy to find your bike. It's the only one left on the rack.
Bike: Try not to get run off the road by the FOP-ers who are starting their SECOND lap as you wobble out on your first. By lap 2, the course is mostly empty; corner workers are distracted and bored, and don't raise their head from their texts as you pass. Some may be nodding off. Cones are being picked up as you go by.
T2: Dodge all the people who have finished and are telling race stories, packing up and moving out.
Run: Everyone else on the course is walking at this point, so the fact that you are running means lots of weaving and passing. Volunteers are down to a single clap as you pass.
Finish: All the spectators are gone, so there's no one to cheer your trip down the finisher's chute. Feel pretty OK about yourself anyway :-)

Tammy, you should feel BETTER than OK-- YOU ROCK!! You got out there and DID it, girl, and that's a danged side more than most other people in the world-- so BRAVA!!! *cheers like crazy from enforced position on the couch*

Wilson, glad to hear there's still space at Casa Silverthorne! I'll let you know ASAP if I can actually join you all in the race itself, or if I'll just be cheering like crazy!

Peggy, WAY TO GO inspiring your family! Can't wait to see the photos when all the others join you!

Hope you're all having excellent weekends!

Tammy... sounds like there were some GOOD things about your race.... you talked to hopefully a cute guy in a kayak, you had no trouble finding your bike in transition, you passed tons of people on the run, esp. considering you didn't even know if you COULD run, and you were out there while the majority of America was either sleeping, sitting on the couch with donuts, or at McDonalds.  So don't beat yourself up!  I bet you learned a few things about both yourself and about racing... AND how could I have forgotten??!!

YOU ARE AN MMM'er AND WE LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT!!

Good point Hilde - I think Peggy was a very smart lady by waiting until they can pay their own way!!! smart!  My son keeps telling me he wants to do a Tri (he's 6).....that might be a really bad idea......then I'm sure my Katelyn will want to and they both would talk Paige into it.....4 sets of Tri stuff.....prom.....college.....OMG....I'm fainting!

Thanks, guys, you always know what to say to cheer me up!

And Wilson, thanks for sharing that video- lots of lessons about parenting in there for me. And as soon as my daughter saw it, she jumped up to go see how much $$ she has in her "Giving" account so she can make a donation!

Cool, I thought it was extremely powerful video that is so multi-facited for life lessons.  Glad you guys liked it...So awesome you guys have a giving fund with everything else going on in this crazy world!  I'm going to show it at my next staff meeting - I lead my folks really trying to concentrate on strengths NOT weaknesses....that's kinda against the FU$%@#ED up corporate norm.

^^^  HA HA HA!!  Only Wilson would say that to one of us??!!  What does that MEAN Wilson, other than you want a booty glimpse????

Awesome video too, Wilson.  Dogs rock, they just rock.... it brought tears to my eyes thinking about that young man that would never have experienced that without the dog... and we take OWS for granted!

And yes, the Felt B16 is an awesome bike for th $$$..... $200 less than the Cervelo P2 with the same components... mine's a 52 though, so unless you want to look like a clown on a tricycle I wouldn't bother stealing it from me!

LMAO....Okay, I should have explained the skirt thing a little..haha....I like Hilde's interpretation, but we'd expect that perversion from her!!!!  My interpretation.....LMAO...is that "pull up your skirt"  The skirt falls to your knees like a little girl not knowing to pull it up and now it's time to pull up your skirt and be a BIG girl....in others words...HTFU!!!  HAHA...I'm still laughing at this one....I'd hate to offend anyone here..haha...well kinda.  Hope you moms are having a great day!

LOL at the skirt comment and the varied interpretations!

TTucker - I gotta tell you "you" were running in front of me today and....my how you've changed! There was a guy in front of me running wearing a t-shirt that said "TTucker Rocks It" on the back so, either you've had a sex change or you have a huge fan here in NH? LOL!

I managed to pull off the 10 miles - felt like poo for the first 4 miles but then I settled in and felt better calculating at the end whether 3 more miles would have been possible and, yeah, I guess so...my legs were tired but still moving, my heart/lungs were ok, and I'd hope that the race atmosphere would carry me through mentally!

Way to rock the run, Marsha! Sounds like a good dose of HTFU got you started, and then the rest was easy-- nice job!

Why am I not surprised to hear Wilson telling us to pull our skirts up? Seriously, I agree with the message of being a big girl and HTFU when necessary...

And TTucker has a fan club? Awesome!

It's a GORGEOUS day here-- hope it is for all of you as well! And my 'training' today may only have consisted of a 2.5-mile walk and half an hour on a hand-cycle machine, but I'll take it!

PS: What a fantastic video, Wilson! Thanks for passing it along... a great message for sure.

LOL! I took it as another way of telling me to "put my big girl panties on." Pretty much what I needed to hear!

Marsha, if you can run 10 miles, you can definitely finish a HM. Race day adrenaline and crowd energy will carry you!

And a big ole Atta Girl for Alex for getting back in the gym already! Just look out for those exercise bikes, wouldn't want you to get run over by one!

Sheez - you all are doing such amazing things.  Congrats to everyone for keeping going and achieving so much!!!  It's been a weird year so far for me and I've not been doing much physically but I keep getting the updates from this thread and they keep drawing me back in to give things another go.

I also received my t-shirt yesterday and it looks great.  Is it wrong that I wondered if Hilde was telling us something by putting them all in a "tough and easy" bag?  Hmmmm...

On a serious note: As I was 'cheating' last night w/ a calzone (that upset my tummy for hours) I was  wondering how many of us would be interested in being held accountable to the others in the group for our good/bad food choices....? For those of you who don't have the love/hate issue with food it doesn't apply but I know for several of us food IS an issue and maybe we need some accountability with folks we trust...? Suggestions or ideas? Thoughts..comments??

I'm down for this.  I need to start recording my food and thoughts again and could use some accountability to someone other than my wife.  For some reason, my hearing goes out when she start getting on me about what I am eating.

Of course - this will have to start tomorrow since it wouldn't be a holiday without me stuffing my face in some way...but the chicke souvlaki and chocolate cannoli were actually worth it for a change.

Hilde, I just got my shirt- what a surprise, since I was just expecting to get it in Indy! It looks amazing- I'm tempted to wear it to the Y in Montana this week and see what kind of looks I get! Remind me to buy you a Starbucks or a donut or something in Indy to repay you!
