I originally had this as my goal: Swimming: 27 hours Biking: 5 hours Running: 5 hours I did not give myself enough biking and running time, so is it okay if I change my goals to: Swimming: 17 hours Biking: 10 hours Running: 10 hours Thanks! Tracy....to be safe, you should do it as you get closer...you can always raise your goals...right up to the last day, but you can not lower them unless you are really sick or injured. But if you think you will definitely make those goals...go for it girl! Thanks for letting me change my goals! By the way, who is Tracy? I'm Amy. I have an aunt named Tracy though <----Tracy Hi Tracy Edited by amyro1234 2008-06-11 7:51 AM |

I'm a morning exerciser so I'm already finished with my run for the day but mostly I'm SOOOO GLAD we are out of our "Heat Advisory" and I can actually breathe again when I go outside! Temps went from 100 degrees yesterday to low 80's today. It feels GREAT! |

Master 1817 Lafayette, IN | Subject: RE: Totally Nutty Triathletes (TNT) dcrunningdiva - 2008-06-10 10:22 PM Okay, I have a big question to ask you guys. As I mentioned above, I'm in the weight loss challenge on this website. I have struggled with my weight my entire life and I know some of you are extremely knowledgeable in this area so I have a question for you (I asked this in my weight loss thread but obviously we all need help in this area so maybe some of you can answer this...) I figured my daily caloric needs by: BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) x Activity factor = daily caloric needs 1620.4 x 1.6 = 2592 calories (let's round to 2600 for easy math) To lose 2 lbs/week (1 lb = 3500 calories) I need to have a calorie deficit of 1000 calories/day For my weight (rounded numbers for easy math) 60 minute bike riding at 14-16 mph = 1000 calories 60 minutes swimming at moderate pace = 500 calories 60 minutes running at 6 mph = 1000 calories Got those from: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbcSo, exercising 1 hour on the bike daily should give me the 1000 cal deficit and I should lose 2 lbs that week. SO, HERE IS MY QUESTION.... WHY THEN do I NOT lose weight when I'm eating 1300-1400 calories routinely and exercising 1-1 1/2 hours/day???? It seems when I eat MORE (i.e. 1600-1700 cals/day) I tend to lose. I'm so confused by this whole thing. Why can't I be one of those fat people that start walking for exercise and start dropping the weight???!!! I work my BUTT off but my BUTT never comes off!!!*** It's so frustrating. ***I really don't want to be one of those people because I know I am much healthier because of what I do and I really do love what I'm doing it's just really frustrating to work so hard and see such little progress. I've been overweight my whole life and in the "obese" category for many years. I really think eating more is your answer. If it's worked in the past why not stick with it? You also have to consider what kinds of calories you are eating. If half your calories come from Nutella...probably not a good balance. Have you checked out the nutrition articles on this site? |

You also have to consider what kinds of calories you are eating. If half your calories come from Nutella...probably not a good balance. Have you checked out the nutrition articles on this site? Tracy...I am soooooo in your boat....I have always been a big girl...I got really big when I quit mtn bike racing and playing ultimate frisbee on a daily basis...and continued to eat like I was being active still. I was over 200 lbs when I found this site in November of last year. I am now holding STRONG at 170...can not get to the 160's no matter what I do! I get up and have my breakfast cereal right away....(my nutritionists told me that I need to eat RIGHT when I get up...do not wait! I then have a salad almose EVERY day for lunch...I make the salad and know that it is good HEALTHY ingredients and I use light dressing...I do have a good dinner and try and eat before 8pm every evening....but can not for the life of me lose any more weight! I know this is one of my reasons for being in such a FUNK - I really would like to see my butt disappear....but it keeps following me everywhere I go! durn it! let me know if you find something new out! I really would like to drop another 15 - 20 lbs! I may have to change my goals...I had an emergency surgery along with a handful of stitches to remove a sunspot on my back and it is keeping me from swimming!! and my leg still has a two inch bump ( no more ugly bruise the size of a canteloupe melon, thank goodness!!!) under the skin...feels like a muscle, but believe you me...I try and not touch it as it HURTS LIKE CRAZY just to brush it....I have been able to run, but not like I was before I had this silly bike wreck that caused this bump! and other scrapes and of course...the worst is it bruised my ego! I hate it when I flip over my handelbars - especially when it is because I put my tire in a drainage grate....NOT GOOD! and NOT VERY BRIGHT...and now I am paying the price!! The thing that sucks the most is the tri I really wanted to participate in this weekend looks to be out....not sure I can do an OWS with my stitches!? so, with that said.....I AM OLD AND FALLING APART....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

DO NOT OVERDO IT. 1) If you need to revise your June goals for the challenge, you can. 2) Do not flip over the handlebars anymore. If you want to soar through the air, try sky-diving instead. (Now, that's one sport that really scares me! Why jump out of a perfectly good plane?) 3) What does your doctor say about swimming? Would you even be able to swim this weekend with the stitches in? 4) Ummmm, I can't think of a #4, so I'll just leave it at three. |

Steve has been without a computer for at least a week - (maybe a little more) - he has lots of training to log (mostly swimming - ok, I made that part up ) as soon as he gets his computer back to working order - hopefully this weekend He has also been sick for the past couple of days, so I'm sure he would appreciate a little TNT inspiration!
