That is really funny!  Who are you? do you OWS with Jess normally?  It's super easy to spot me.  Small fry in the front with the green swim cap.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!! Love this race, and Madison. Will be volunteering and cheering everyone on Sunday. At this point, you have put in the work - thats the hard part. Now just go out and enjoy the circus that is Ironman weekend and have a great race.

I'm in the wetsuit..ha, j/k. I'm on the left not wearing swim cap w/ dark hair. I did this swim and also one at Devil's Lake a couple months ago. A bit of a drive for me, but I have some friends that are up there once in awhile...

So 7:30 swim on Friday morning at the Terrace. How about Breakfast at Marigolds afterwards? I have never been but it was recommended. Is any one going to be in town on Thursday? I would like to get a little workout it, and would love some company. 45 minute bike and 30 minute run.

Walinda

I'm going crazy today, no work, no workout, home alone and bored!

Sounds like a plan for swim and breakfast.  I won't be in town until late Thursday night.  As far as a bike run workout.  I need to do a short 45 bike and 15 minute run, but I won't be doing that Thursday as you know.  It is scheduled for Saturday but I can do it on Friday too if you are flexible.

We arrive in Madison on thursday afternoon.  I am planning on registering and heading out for a 30 minute easy run.  I could meet you somewhere on the course to check part of it out?  I would likely cover around 3 miles in 30 minutes.

For those that have done this race before, what is the sun like in the morning? Is it in your eyes on the swim?

On the long stretch back, it will be in your eyes.  I haven't found it blinding, but definitely would wear tinted goggles.

The course runs mostly parallel with shore, so the sun is never really in your eyes.  Okay - maybe a little bit if you breathe to your left - but it won't impact your sighting at all.  The only time that it might be affected will be rounding the first buoy.  But, by then, the sun should be high enough in the sky to not be an issue.

Nutrition question:  A "friend" recommended I start taking the salt tablets Saturday late afternoon/night.  Does anyone with experience know if this is a good plan or not?  I'm not crazy about changing anything at this point but it does sound like it could be beneficial.

Can't say I've ever tried it, but that doesn't sound like a good idea to me.  I would think there's only so much your body can handle in a day.  I will be adding a bit more salt to everything I eat this week, but nothing crazy.  I'll also grab a pickle everytime I'm hungry (no calories!).

ETA: Just realized you didn't say how many and assumed you meant quite a few.  Probably because we're Ironmen, and therefore take everything to an extreme level Smile.  One or two is not going to hurt, don't go overboard.

I am a world-class sweater, so I usually take a salt tablet every hour or two on the bike and run.  I usually lose quite a bit of liquids through sweat, so I need to drink more than most people and take tablets too.  Seeing salt lines on my shirt are proof of how much I'm losing.  I haven't needed to take any extra salt before the race, even with pre-hydrating for a couple of days prior to the race.  Most diets have enough salt pre-race for an Ironman, though taking an extra tablet or two prior to the race shouldn't hurt.  Eating an extra banana would help too.

Bad idea unless you are depleted of salt, which most americans are not.  All you'll be doing is increasing the sodium concentration in your sweat and impair your body's sodium-regulating mechanisms.  The average person only needs about 250mg of saft a day.  The endurance athlete needs about 500mg a day.  The average american consumes about 7000mg of salt a day because of the highly processed foods that we eat.

Awfully quite in here today, given how close we are to the race.  Is everyone just too panicked?  Some time off in July nursing an injured foot and too many family committments derailed my training, so this race has a distinct possibility of turning very ugly on me.  My wife made up these shirts for my family to wear.  If you see a little four year old yelling pain don't hurt at you, give him a little high five.

I am also a world class sweater.  Some of my "friends" call me puddles.  I am planning on taking 2-4 endurolytes and hour.  These aren't table salt though.  Last year a lost my endurolytes pouch on the bike and didn't have any for the run.  I cramped massively 12 miles into the run.  I was surprised they didn't have any salt tabs at the fuel stations.  This year I will have backup.
