Hi Everyone!

So my first triathlon ever is on Sunday.  I'm super nervous because I know I haven't trained as hard as a should have, but my goal is just to finish.  I can do all of the distances independently of each other, but I know doing them all at once will be difficult.  I'm going to use it as practice for the next one I have in September because then maybe I won't be so nervous.  My parents are going to be in town so they will get to watch!  I was talking to them about bailing out on this tri since I haven't trained as hard as I should have, but my mom said I should just do it because I might love it and then that will give me even more motivation for the one in Sept.  I hope she is right!  This sprint tri is broken up as follows:

375meter ocean swim
1.5 mile run
12 mile bike
1.5 mile run
375meter ocean swim

I'm nervous about all of the transitions (and remembering all my gear!) and the running legs, but I keep reminding myself that I can walk if I need too.  I should be fine with the swim and the bike (although my bike is a hybrid so that alone will slow me down a lot!).  I'm also nervous about being sandy from the salt water and chaffing during the run.  Does anyone have suggestions on what type of shorts/pants I should bring for the run portion??  I need to go shopping!!

I'll probably have a bunch of random questions for you all this week so I apologize in advance!

So... first take a DEEP breath!

If you ARE going to buy something to wear in the race have a look at tri shorts or a tri suit.... no changing required which will make your life a lot easier as you can wear them for the entire race...

I always leave a spare bottle of water in my transition area to rinse off my feet or anything else if I need too... never really used it much but reassuring to have it there!

If you are confident on a bike having a hybrid wont slow you down too much and you will not be the only one out there riding one so dont worry about it!

Ask as many questions as yuo need This is going ot be FUN!

Thanks Cat!!!  So I just ordered 2 tri suits.  I'm going to try them both on and then return the one that doesn't fit the best.  Here are the 2 I ordered.  I really know nothing about tri suits so we'll see how this goes.  I got them with over night shipping so I have time to workout in it before the race.

TRY Women's Trisuit -5"

Zoot Women's Trifit - 6"

I figure I would have spent more than $80 if I bought items separately since I was going to have to buy a new swim suit (the one I have been training in isn't very comfortable) and something to run in.

Both of those suits look nice!  Can't wait to see which one you like better.

You are going to have such a great time at your race  I was all smiles during my first one...just couldn't believe I was acutally doing it!  Looks like a great race for spectators also since you have the extra transitions.

Good luck!!!

Sounds like you made the smartest decision... tri suits are great and in terms of fit they shouldnt be loose and obviously things like seams etc shouldnt be in places that give you trouble.

I would suggest at least a couple of workouts in whatever you decide BEFORE race day... and remember NO underwear... but sports bra is essential underneath if you need it for running (try a swim in the full ensemble if needed)

Woo hoo!

OUCH!  Did you go to the doc?  You say you did it when you got off stand, are you a guard?  Does that mean you did it at work and they get to foot the bill!

Ouch! Is there anything they can do for that? Or is it just a matter of splinting it, and waiting for it to heal?

Question:

I have long hair.  Do most people wear hats after the swim?  I normally never wear a hat to exercise in and just pull it up and put in an elastic headband to keep fly-aways out of my eyes.  Should I wear a hat on Sunday?

I have long hair too.  I have a visor on top of my shoes in transition.  I throw it on in T2, then adjust everything once I get going on the run.

With wet hair after the swim that gets smashed by your helmet, then the helmet is ripped off 15 miles later...I think a hat or visor is needed to calm the birds nest that gets going up there!

Well they reset it and splinted it too my ring finger. They said it should heal on its own rather fast and to keep moving it, but not to lift anything heavy.

Hi - I dont normally wear hats to exercise in... so I dont wear one... just make sure you are well sunscreened..

In terms of racewear its best to stick with what you know and what works for you!!!

I normally just wear sunglasses... I like being able to tip water over my head too!
