kickitinok - 2010-05-06 3:09 PM Just heard from my ortho doc. I am going to have to have custom orthodics made for my shoes, and buy a different pair of running shoes. This all should cost about $400. Neato.

kickitinok - 2010-05-06 11:00 AM 'Sup boys. I just purchased an new Garmin Forerunner 305 and I was wondering if anyone here could give me detailed instructions on how to upload the data to my training logs here on BT? Like....remedial, detailed, step-by-step, instructions. I'm so technologically challenged....

I use the Garmin Forerunner 305 too for running.  I really like it.  However, I don't usually upload the data from the watch to BT.  I don't like how the data is presented when you upload the information into your training log.  Instead, I keep my information in the Garmin Training Center and upload my bike rides to www.garminconnect.com.  I still enter my data manually into the training log.

For running, I like the auto lap feature.  I normally keep it set at 1 mile unless I'm doing shorter intervals.  With the auto lap, it will automatically store your information by what ever distance you have chosen.  I also like to use the lap pace to keep my consistent.  And, as all of you are aware, I use the HR setting.

I'll try to find you some concise instructions for uploading.

I don't upload to BT either.  I load workouts into my home computer with Garmin Training centre.  I also have mine set to autolap (km, Canada, eh).  Very useful to see how you held pace, where you slowed, responded to elevation, etc.

life is getting us all around. I planned on a swim tonight again. The wife wanted to run and I hate having her run by herself outside at night. So I ran with her instead and she agreed to go to the pool with me tomorrow.

But, we still got it done!

Good morning.  All I have planned today is a light road ride around an hour.

Race tomorrow again.  This XTERRA starts the season for me.  Goal time is 3 hours, but we will see.  I'm feeling the ill effects of racing three weeks in a row.  I just ache in all kind of wierd places.  Thank God I have some time off after this race to nurse the sore spots.

first one of the season! I'm actually excited. I haven't been able to get a long ride in outside like that yet this year. All the good weekends were taken up by races so far. I'm going to slow both the bike/run down and see how it feels.

i think i now understand the 10% rule about increasing distance. my body is actually not recovering as i had hoped it would. this morning my hamstrings and hips were on fire so i spent an hour of stretching\yoga to loosen up this old body. a swim would be nice but i have another month to wait for some pool time. i am also thinking more bike time vs run miles-it will be less impact on my legs. my surgically repaired knee is goo, but my left knee is getting rather painful.

Product Review:  Cycling Bib shorts...

Was reading Jordan Rapp's blog on "Specialized" (a good read BTW) & he was saying that a cyclist should have one pair of hig quality cycling shorts.  Raved about them, how they make long rides so much more comfortable, etc.

Anyway, I decided to buy a higher quality pair this morning & wore them during bike ride this afternoon.  Bought a "Gore" bibbed cycling short.  Very nice fit & finish.  Seamless chamois.  Like the bib, no waistband & very comfy in aero.

Anyway, I had my doubts about bibbed shorts, I am now a believer!

Anyone else got a set??

That 10% rule, has definitely stood the test of time.

Bike does keep cardio & help running.

I have a pair of Pearl Izumi Quests and a pair of LG Alevo Gel. I haven't worn the LG's yet. The Pearl Izumi's were inexpensive and super comfortable!

Bib's are AWSOME!!! until you have to go to the bathroom! LOL

I've heard of guys peeing while on the bike during races. Anyone here do that? I know that's a strange question, but I've read some pretty strange threads here on BT where the guys who do it are quite proud of themselves.

I hope I'm never behind one of them in a race.

If I'm a machine, I'm feeling like an old Commadore 64 right now! Surprised  I'm falling apart.  My son had batting practice last night.  So, every now and again, I end up pitching for the team.  Oh man, my shoulder was sore this morning.  This getting old thing really sucks!

Just got back from a road ride.  I went out nice and easy with high cadence and low gearing.  My legs are feeling pretty good post-ride.

There's no magical number.  Just like running, some world class 5k runners run more training miles than most amateur marathoners.  This follows the logic that low intensity, high volume will eventually allow you to become faster.

I like to treat might cycling very similar to running. That is, strat small, only increase 10 percent per week, and your long ride should always be supported by weekly mileage (long ride never more than 50% of weekly mileage).

Start with a distance you feel comfortable with currently.  For the sake of an example, lets say 10 miles.   So, you could start at 10 miles 2x week, one high intensity workout on the trainer (5 miles), and a weekend long ride of 25 miles.  You would then progress weekly at 10 percent allowing for periodization every fourth week.  Obviously, these numbers are arbitary, but should give you an idea where to start.

Hope that helps.  If not, keep asking.

While I haven't been put in this position yet, I have no qualms about it.  Obiously, you wouldn't want to do that with someone in your vicinityUndecided  Amateur AGer or not, when I'm racing, I'm racing for the podium.  Then again, I'll admit I'm a few cards short of a full deck.  I go into buring buildings for a living!
