--------------------------------------------------------- NEXT MANDY UPDATE!! -------------------------------------------------

I am not as cyber-clever as is Denise, so I can only type out what I see on www.ironmanlive.com.

She is past the first bike-split-spot, which is at the 30 mile point. She was through that in 1:45, and should be close to the 56-mile point -- right through the village of Lake Placid, halfway done!

Her T1 time was 8:28, so her times so far add up to about 3:29...if I did my math right! I think she has to be very pleased with that!!

Thanks, DENISE and STEVE for the updates on MANDY. For some reason, when I go to the tracker, I can pull her up but it doesn't have any information.

GO, MANDY, GO!!!

They don't show a time for the 3rd bike split and she should be done with the bike by now but I'm not worried because it looks like the on-line results are all screwed up.  Her swim time has disappeared and looks like they've got her swim time in with her 1st bike split.  Anyway, it looks all wrong.  I have heard this often happens with the on-line tracker.  We'll just have to wait and see.

DENISE -

Yes, things do seem screwy. Swim time is back....but still no final bike split. Also, there are still only two finishers for M60-64, and I'd think at this point there'd be more. And, there have been multiple mess ups with splits being lumped together, as in a 2:10 swim and a 4:26 bike....for a M60-64......I DON'T THINK SO!!

So, I guess we just wait and hope for the best and assume that the system is struggling --- Athlete Tracker's system, not Mandy's!!

It takes some of the fun out of skulking, doesn't it, when the Primary Source Material is not reliable. Sheesh.

Congratulations Mandy.  Don't know whether your times hit your goals but the sheer accomplishment of finishing an IM should hopefully have you walking on cloud nine (once you're able to walk).  Looking forward to hearing about it.

MANDY -

Yo, Ms. Caratunk! Congratulations!!

Can hardly wait to hear your assessment on doing 140.6, as I'm sure overall it will be positive and then some. I was SOOOO happy to see the results this morning, as they were still messed up and incomplete when I went to bed about 12:30.

Are you in line to sign up for next year, or are you just going to focus on Mont Tremblant? How much chatter was going on down there that next year might be the last for IM at LP?

The big part of your results that caught my attention was the run, and I have the feeling that you found that less arduous than you maybe feared. Can't tell anything from the swim leg, at least as far as getting knocked around is concerend. Hopefully you emerged from it unscathed, and enjoyed what is one of THE unique swims in the triathlon world.

Heading back today? If so, let everyone do the driving and you just sprawl wherever you can. And eat like a fiend, at least for the next eight days. If it's generally considered unhealthy and bad for you.......it's GREAT post-IM food!!

And hurry back to us with your thoughts and impressions.

You ARE an ironman!!! (Did you hear Mike Reilly say it?)

Hey everyone!!! Thank you all for your well wishes and stalking!! Sorry the stalking wasn't that fun.  My poor friends were freaked out!! ha ha

Best. Day. Ever.  Swim was magnificent.  I started on the far right and went with the gun.  I figured what the hell. I hit the buoy line after the second turn buoy and never had to go off of it.  I didn't get pushed around at all!

Swim details here:

http://caratunkgirl.com/2011/07/26/ironman-lake-placid-part-1-the-swim/

Bike.  That first 20 miles is mostly downhill, so that is why 17 mph avg.  But it sure made me look good. ha ha  No real issues on the bike...except my tri shorts ripped at the seam and caused this awful chafing.  And ofcourse I had no spare shorts in any transition bags...so I ended up borrowing tape from some dude racing (hand off at 20mph, feeling rather sporty) and taping them on for the rest of the race so I stayed in my shorts so to speak.   My race belt fell off on the climb from Keen to Wilmington, but I salvaged that but had to get a start on the hill.

By the end of the second loop I was ready to throw my bike in the lake. BUT I love seeing the bears, because I know I am almost done.  I like that kind of climbing much better than the less steep but long stuff for some reason.

Felt good off the bike, taped myself together properly in transition with some help from volunteers and headed out.

The first 6 miles of the run sucked. I was sure I was looking at a midnight finish instead of my 15hr goal.  But it got better, and I ran all the downhills and flats and walked the uphills.

I had some chicken broth, which was good, but then I got some cold stuff and that sucked. Then at mile 20 I took some cola. WAHOOO!  I ran the rest of the way "home"  My friends ran up IGA hill with me, and I ran Mirror Lake Drive taking cola every chance I got.

I ran around the oval and I DID hear Mike say "Mandy Farrar, You are an Ironman!"  I fist pumped and everything.  I have it on video.  I don't know how to post that though, so here is a link:

More soon, but thank you all so much for all of your support!!

Yay! You're backl, you're functional, and I'm SOOOO happy you had the Best. Day. Ever. Woo-hoo!

I won't say much for now, partly because I'm just getting back from a day and a half away. I loved what you've written so far.....can hardly wait for the full, unabridged account!

Huge congrats on reaching that goal, on a none-too-easy course!

FYI.......
The "bears" Mandy refers to are the last three significant climbs on each of the two loops of the IMLP bike course. I have forgotten the order, but I think it's "Baby" first, the "Papa", then "Mama".

MANDY will know, for sure!

Congrat's Mandy. You are in fact an Ironman.  Now you can get your MDOT tatoo

You must be on cloud nine.  Well done!!!

BTW:  I checked out the finishing video.  Wish the dude who finish just in front of you was out of the way.  I didn't get the full effect of the fist pump (I think that was a fist pump).  However, I did see the big smile.  How cool!!

Took my still fairly new tri bike out on the Tuesday nite group ride last nite.  Wow, what a difference.  Until now, all my miles had been put on riding alone so I didn't have anything to compare it to (don't have a functioning computer on it yet).  It doesn't climb so well but, man, what a rocket on the downhills and flats.  I was not only keeping up with far better riders but passing them while coasting in the aero position.  Made me completely forget how hot it was (108 degree heat index) and I finished a 28 mile ride with a big smile on my face.

Once again, Mandy, you rock!

JOE -

I think you like your newish bike!!

I just wrote to a friend who is shopping for a buike, and one of the things I mentioned is that road bikes generally climb better than tri bikes ---- and there you are, confirming it in your post! That is always a good topic to see come up on forums -- "Big, hilly race coming up, which bike do I use?".....and now you can add your thoughts when you see that thread somewhere!

As fopr the torn tri shorts, well, remember what is siad frequently on forums --- it didn't happen if there aren't photos! So, in the spirit of "full disclosure" (as it were...), let's post some of those more revealing photos!

MANDY -

It's hard to figure how you topped the swim and bike parts, but you sure managed, and in spades. The run one is such the "keeper"!!

Love the tape job -- how it looked at the start of the run, and how much was added to it by the end.

The stripper ine is a great one --whether true or not!

Terrific toe-off on the one from the run start!!

Yeah, Mirror Lake Drive at the end of the first loop -- cruel and unusual punishment (but it'll make one tougher!).

Beautiful account of the various people and their statements.

Emerging from River Road and peaking that nasty little hillon the second loop....and then realizing how close the finish line is.....PRICELESS!!

Best of all was your coach's father and what he said. He's a prince.

I wish I had better memories of entering the oval and circuiting it, but I dodn't. So, whatever you can do to imprint all of that into your memory banks, do it. I am sure that when you're seven years removed from IMLP'11 you will want to have a vastly better memory of it than I have!

Still high as the sky??
