The dog chose the furthest point from a trash can to do her business, so I was a little encumbered for much of this run. I am consistently humbled by the miles you folks put in. I have no desire to run that many miles, but it is inspiring. You rock! |

How far do you have to scale it back when you add in cycling and/or swimming? I'm curious if you do Ironmans, because I want to know if the running part of one would be "easy" to you. |

I never thought I'd get the miles in but this works. Slow and steady I guess. I just want to be able to complete a 1/2 Ironman this year with a marathon (with my brother, it will be his first) that is 2 weeks after my 1/2 Iron so I though I would give this a try and I believe it is working! Thanks guys for this thread! |

I did my first tri, an olympic distance, this year and really enjoyed it. I want to do a full ironman but do not have the time to train properly for it. It is enough just fitting in my running and that is what I really like to do. When I retire for good in 5 years then I will train for an ironman until then I will just run alot, ride and swim a little. I have done an adventure race the last two year that you do in this order, a hilly half marathon, a hilly on and off road 20.5 mile bike ride, a 2.6 mile swim in the lake, a 6-8 mile orienteering course depending on where all the check points are located, a 4.75 mile run and finishes with a 8+ mile canoe trip. When training for this I keep my running miles at 45-60 mpw but ride about 100-200 per week and swim about 3-5 miles per week for 6-8 weeks leading up to it. That lets me know I do not have the time to add another 200 mpw on the bike and some more swim training to do a proper ironman.
A little background, short version, in January of 2009 I was a 240-250 pound couch potatoe this was ten years after I retired from the Navy. Bought a treadmill vowed to not let it collect dust. Ran a 5k that March and was hooked. I ran 4 half marathon that fall in an 8 week time period. FIrst marathon in March of 2010 followed by the 2nd one that October. 2011, I ran a full in April and qualified for Boston, ran another in May and a 3rd in October. 2012 ran Boston in the heat, ran CLeveland in the heat 5 weeks later, ran another in September and my 4th of the year in October followed by my first ever ultra a 50K three weeks after that. I also have ran a few halfs and shorter races each year too. So I am still relatively new to all this. I started my running streak on Thanksgiving day last year and it is still going and I plan to keep it going for years. Doing my first 50 miler in less than 6 weeks and not sure how many other ultras and full I wil ldo next year but at least 4 fulls and one more ultra at a minimum. I would the other ultra to be a 100 miler depending on how the 50 miler goes. I'll also be doing that adventure race again too. I turned 50 years old this year and about that treadmill, it collects dust in the garage because I would rather run outside. I do use it occasionally when it is jusy to nasty out to get a proper speed workout done but that is it.
I have run 2882 miles since starting my running streak and 2587.29 so far this calander year. I want to run at least 3500 miles next year, just a little goal I am setting for myself.
You are doing a great job yourself I am sure you PR your upcoming half with ease. |

Keep up the great work, before you know it you'll be knocking out 40-50 miles per week. Build slowly. |

Great job, I'll be over 2600 miles for the year in a couple of days. Mine all started with a little running streak challenge too and now I am 390 days into the streak and still going. |

Feeling really good about it and have been training pretty hard for it. It kicked my a** last year (because I didn't train properly and injured myself during the race) - so this year I vowed to kick its a** |

I would have thought with the mileage you put in in a week that the minimum you would run would be in the 8 mile range or so... |

Pro 15655 | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? #100!!..........3.3 miles on the treadmill....just jogged really easy and enjoyed the idea that I did 100. I suppose I'll just keep going and increasing bit by bit. My body seems to respond really well to running every day. I basically ran my PF injury away. The only thing I can say I really don't like about counting like this is that it makes 100 days go by really fast. At this point in my life, I'm not much interested in things going by any faster than they do. I guess I'll shoot for 200 as I start my IM build. I need to get back in the pool and on the bike, something I have not done in 2 months as I let the streak play out. Time will tell if I can continue the run streak as I add swim and bike. Still....a good time. Here's something interesting.....I don't weigh myself, so I can't give a number, but my guess is that I've GAINED 6-10 lbs. in the last two months when I quit biking and swimming and just concentrated on running. Life is good! |
