Tom,

Has anyone ever asked you about that picture under your name?????

1) Why are you the only one without a wetsuit???

a) you're a tough guy and cold water doesn't affect you

b)the other guys stripped it from you before taunting you mercilessly

c)Its not really a triathlon and you're awaiting initiation into some kind of strange satanic cult and haven't received your uniform yet.

Gary, are those flowers on his swim cap?

I get quite a few questions, Garyellen.

The whole story is in the race logs under Texas State TRi.  The short version is it was my first tri (oly) and I figured I could stay in cold water for 30 minutes or so (it took me 49 minutes - pure hell).  Problem is, I hyperventilated the whole time as the water was 55 degrees with high wind and waves, against the current - I couldn't freestyle.  I had to do the breast stroke for the whole 1500 meters, which led to cramps as I didn't practice that stroke much.  There are other pictures in the albums....

Why is the grass ALWAYS greener on the other side of the hill?  And if you walked over to the other side, how then could the grass be greener on the other, first side?

Tom,

That sounds miserable. I will be bringing my wetsuit with me to every race just in case. My hat's off to you for getting through it.

s'ok, Garyellen.  I wouldn't have expected anything less, er... more... whatever.  Besides, I am my most favorite subject and will take any oportunity to pontificate.

In the one area where I am a little let deown by you, I am very surpried and dissapointed at your humdrum and dishonest answer to the question "what color does a smurf turn when you choke it?"

We know you have a smurf, Garyellen.  What color does it turn when you choke it?

I may not live through it.  Just shy of 100 at 1:00, heat index is supposed to be 110.  That, with that MONSTER hill.  Jeez.  How long does it typically take to walk 13 miles....?  I'm praying for a cool front (or an injury)....

No kidding.  I am checking the extended forecast for Grand Prairie, and the highs do dip below 90F at the end of the string.  But there is no shade on my run course.

I'll probably lose about 25 pounds during the race.  That's not a joke.
