I didn't see it here. ok...here is my reflection...for my 6000th post! Early November I was fat as a tick...happy and fat and doing lots of movie watching and crafts....and was smoking those nasty cigs!!! then I get a call noone would want to get...my sister n law who was racing with my brother in Florida Ironman...was in grave condition and had just been rushed to the hospital...after 5 days of roller coaster rides...family telling me she moved...no that was just nerves -shes brain dead...she may live...no looks bad!...wait they got some brain movement...then on the 5th final day...her brain swelled and after much unsuccess in surgeries...they donated her organs. My husband and I drove to Texas we celebrated Dorothy's life. I vowed at her funeral to do a triathlon....drove home...tore up my cigarettes and began to train... I signed up for my first triathlon in Moraga and got 4th out of 15 in my AG...I was tickled to get my finisher medal..and immediately held it to the sky and my husband and I embraced and both cried together...was very emotional...but not as emotional as watching my brother race the IM in Arizona last year....he was unable to finish in Florida because he had to go to the hospital...could you imagine being on your bike and having police chase you to tell you your wife is in the hospital..he kept trying to tell them they are wrong it must be someone elses wife!?! My brother Mike called me in January to say he really wanted to do the IMAZ but they were full...I told them they would probably let you in...and he tried and got in...then he called me back and asked me to try and help him book a room...I called the host hotel and they were full..spoke to the manager..and NO GO..full! but being an event planner I know they have a sales department that saves blocks of rooms for their high end clients and regulars...well I called the sales department...told them my brothers story..gave them links to online stories and then asked if they had a few rooms they could spare...within moments she called me back and said she had two rooms...yay! My brother will soon get to go do the IM for both he and Dorothy! as we get closer to the race..my brother calls me again and said he wants to fly my mom and dad out and wanted to see if they could get a room, too...I MEAN REALLY! I love you MIKE but this is ridiculous...but I did call and she did give me one more room...we were a block from the venue and had everything we needed within walking distance. So my daughter works for Active and knows the announcer...he gets us VIP passes and we get a back pack full of IM gear and garb and passes to sit in the area near the finish complete with food and drink....we were tickled pink! my mom, sister, daughter, niece and I had a ball! and at the first of the race...Mike OReilly the announcer is about to start the race....we are trying to find mike among the thousands of swimmers....just then we hear the announcer...say MIKE GRIFFIN...I know you are out there...and have qute a long and arduous adventure....but today...YOU WILL BE AN IRONMAN!...I looked over at my mom whos jaw had dropped and she said did he just say Mike Griffin??? and I said he did! and we both hugged and cried....my brother swam it in 45 min...he was on fire! the bike ride he looked amazing even in the gale force winds...and he ran...and walked...and now my brother is an IRONMAN...and I am sooo proud of him! I would never have found BT if it werent for Dorothy...she was on this site...not sure of her user name...but I remember coming here and seeing all the talk about her...was really hard for me to see it and think about joining in....the reason my name is girl passing on left is because it was her favorite thing to say....she was a very strong rider and loved to pass guys and say GIRL on your left. I am honored to race with and for her! I will never forget her and will thank her over and over for getting me up and going again! I have always been active...raced mtn bikes for 15+ years, played softball, basketball, volleyball, and played on a coed ultimate team that won 3rd in Germany a few years back....ok 8 years ago! I feel I have made many friends for life! and I thank you all for all you do to keep me motivated and moving forward! I really would like to say that one day I will race an Ironman for Dorothy...but at this point and time...it just doesnt even sound fun! or doable!!! so I will see what time brings...I will say this....I LOVE BT and wonder how long it will take me to get another 6000 posts!!! at the rate this challenge is going...I would say next week you will all have to suffer thru another long and drawn out saga!!! ok....nite all! you all be good ghouls and runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! |

SInce my glorious, oh-so-competent building contractor didn't get the building permit for the basement finish until AFTER the sheetrock was up and painted, said sheetrock must be torn down, all exterior walls exposed, the ceiling sheetrock torn down in places, and one side of each interior wall exposed. Did I mention I don't *heart* this contractor any more? I stopped *heart*-ing them about 8 weeks into this "3 week" project. Wrong doors ordered, wrong carpet, wrong tub, then a damaged tub, then wrong toilet, extra charges on the paint, wrong texture on the walls, wrong toilet, wrong finish on the fixtures, no control of sheetrock dust whatsoever, I could go on and on.... wow...thats awful! I am really sorry that you are having to go thru sooo much crap! what the heck! does this guy have a license? or did he order it from a blue light special at kmart came-apart!?? do I dare ask how much longer you have this contractor for??? or did you give him the ol boot to the GOODIES! The thought has crossed my mind, but since they did do good work (with lots of supervision to make sure they were doing the RIGHT work), and since they have all my money, I'll stick it out. They have to pay for most of the re-do work, since they're the ones that didn't get the permit/inspections when they were supposed to... I just have to live here until it's done... we can get Dee to loan you her taser....sure they would get a little move on if they had a little incentive! |

DH came home early (told ya he was a peach) and i went to the Y and did a 5 miler, negative splits. im right on the cusp pace-wise. im hoping to get in some solid workouts and some good rest/recovery days before my 1/2. if nothing else ill enjoy my time w my friends that are coming in from out of town to run, and my friends w the newly formed tri club. i was able to sit down and type a proposed tri/race schedule for 2010....its shaping up nicely and im already starting to get excited. 2 Olys as my A races. thats a new distance for me. uber uber exciting! keeping my head in the game. ill be back tomorrow to chat. mwah! stacieb It IS exhausting when especially taking care of two sick ones. GREAT that they are recovering so quickly! And what a sweet hubby for coming home early so you could have so recouping time. Good luck with the rest of your training. Next year sounds like lots of fun x2 except didnt see that kansas IM on your list of to dos!!! toto we arent in Kansas anymore!!!!! |

Started new block today with introductory bacteriology and virology. Yay it seems so fitting considering the flu season has descended! We got a big notice to not come to class if we are sick...the Faculty is trying to avoid everyone in medicine getting sick!!! I think we are all going to think we are sick once we are done with this block...haha Haven't really decided what I'm going to do at the gym today....hmmm...i think I might do a quick recovery run on the treadmill and then some stat biking...thats my plan right now...we will see...I might as well go to the gym rather than wait in my car in rush hour around the university area. YAY! This afternoon I get to sit in a dark lecture theatre which is like 30 degrees C right now and watch a movie ...how many people do you think are going to be awake at the end of that? I'm going to go get myself a ginormous coffee!!! x5,000,000 for sure I would be out! It wasn`t as bad as it could have been...I thought I was in for trouble once the lights went out...but I was pretty outraged at the topic of the film. It was about this Tuskegee syphillus study in Alabama with 400 African-American men who they pretended they were treating but actually weren`t to determine if the course of syphillus was different in black men compared to white men. It went on for 40 YEARS!!!! *outrage* Basically my outrage kept me awake... wow! thats down right cruel!!! but now I want to know the outcome!!!?? Im afraid that I already do, though! ;( |

Haven't completely decided if I want to do the 10mile distance instead....dun dun dun! I'm going out for my birthday on Fri night to a piano duelling bar!!! I'm soooo excited!!!! have fun in the race...just make sure whichever you choose that you finish with a smile! BIG SMILE! sooo tell us more about this piano duelling bar? I think I will have a bigger smile with the 5miler....haha the 10miler might end up with a horrible snarly grimace by the end...haha The bar is called the Ivory Club...they have 2 pianists at opposing pianos and they play all night long...different genres from oldies to new stuff, audiences choice...i guess its kind of like a dance off but with pianos...I`ve never been before, but I`ve heard it is fantastic!!! have fun!!! cant wait for the update and to hear who was hot and who was not! |

Glad to hear Stacie's kiddo's are ok. Dueling pianos sound fun. Contractor from hell sounds familiar. Wish I'd been around for the "goodie" discussion. Tuskegee was an abomination of science and ethics. So, have fed the "fur people" and am going to crash. Plan has me running 5 miles tomorrow, but have to be at work by 7am. Not sure that is possible. (the run that is, no option on work) I draw the line at being in the sneaks any earlier than 5am. A girl has to get some sleep. Will work on an alternate plan later. Easy enough to move some other things around later in the week. "she says with sincere optimism." Great job Ghoulies! Hey Kim....sorry you are working sooo hard! hope things settle soon! and I totally feel your pain on the no sneaks before 5am thing! I am a morning person...but not that much of one!! sooo what is feeding the fur people??? I am thinking your pets!?! do I win??? |

All I can say is WOW and that you moved me to tears...Thanks for sharing Jules and I am so sorry for your families loss, but so happy you are what we all have gained here on BT thanks Katie! I sometimes forget what brought me here...and everyonce in a while I need to be grounded again! I truly have found a home in BT!!! I love this site and I have been sooo lucky to get to meet many of you! and hope to meet many more of you!!! and eat some of the yummy food you keep talking about! and run, bike and swim with! |

I got a 5 mile run done yesterday. I'm still on target! I plan on running in a 5K on Sunday so this week is relatively mellow. Baby has been growing by leaps and bounds lately. He is sitting up on his own now! It's so cute! He looks so pleased with himself! I hope everyone is doing good. Keep running team!!!! nice run!!! and dont be sad...you are doing what any good mom would do! spend quality time with thier baby and watch it as it does all its first...first crawl, first step, first tooth, +++ way to be there for your kiddo!!! and again good run!!! KIU!!! Oh yes!!! I get to see all the firsts!!! It's awesome!!! I actually saw his first tooth when I got done with a run with him in the stroller. I was taking him out and noticed the little pearly white poking through the gums! That was fun! Running with my baby and experiencing a "first"! BTW....great story. It, simply, leaves me speachless. |

I'd be pretty ticked off about the whole thing, too. Any chance you can fire his a$$? |
