Hey all. For those of you on Facebook and in the Houston area, I created a Facebook group called IMTX - Team Houston. I think this might be helpful for local athlete's to help coordinate training and have general discussion about the race.

Anyone that is training for IMTX or is a fan of those that are is welcome to join.

With the cold weather here for a few days I thought I'd bump up these pics of a nice sunny day at the future swim start area.

JeffIrvin - 2010-06-25 1:48 PM I was in The Woodlands for work this morning and have never been to NorthShore Park (Swim Start) so I stopped and snapped a few pics with the BlackBerry (sry about poor quality).  I thought you BT peeps might enjoy these:

From the West side of Park this is a Southern View.

This is facing East.

This is the North view ... Already pictured my head slamming into the bridge!

I am hopeful it will be a mass start and think it is doable from what I saw today, but it might be a little congested with 2500 folks thrashing about.   Really hope that bridge is not part of the course Smile

I'll take credit for the first IMTX Facebook group that was started before registration.  Already has 400 members.

I walked over the canal portion of the swim course last week. I know this won't be wetsuit legal but I'm wondering if we will be able to wear a Hurtlocker suit?? Not the cleanest water I've ever seen. Maybe we can get some free tetanus shots at the finish line!

Maybe if I could get some of the water and start soaking in it in my bathtub to build up for the swim - would that help - also Walgreens use to have cheap tetanus shots - might look into getting one !!

The water is nasty! I went kayaking this weekend and as we kept looking at all sorts of nasty things floating by my friends kept asking "are you REALLY sure you want to SWIM in THIS?"

Those nasty things are called duck sh*t.  That lake is full of it (pun intended).

I also got the worst ear infection in my life 4 days after that race..... coincidence???? My ear swelled shut, I was on antibiotics and they used a needle to get a steroid/antibiotic mixture in my ear. I was curled up in a fetal position with tears running down my face it was so bad. That was after 10 minutes in the water...... imagine after my slow a$$ is the water for an hour and a half???

The Bridgeland lake looks nastier than it is.  It's very muddy and it was very warm given the date of the event which gave it that soupy feeling but it's not near as gross as Lake Woodlands, IMO.  The duck sh*t is all over the place in Lake Woodlands.

Maybe Keith can talk the city into opening up a limited "duck season" to minimize the number of "contributors" to the problem.  If he can get that worked out perhaps a long cold heavy rain a week prior to the event to clean out the rest of the lake out and make it wetsuit legal.....Laughing

Can someone tell me what direction we swim.  Need to but new goggles and not sure if I should get the tinted ones for race day.  Will we be swimming into the sun?

We will basically be swimming SW, then NE, then SSE.  The last 2/3rds of the swim will more or less be into the sun.

A friend and I drove down to The Woodlands on Friday night and drove the backside of the course that night...then rode and abbreviated stretch of the bike course on Saturday morning (about 60 miles).  I can say that I was very pleased with how smooth the roads were...and if you like it flat, you're in luck (but I think I already knew that).  I can also say that it was a bit of a white knuckle ride at times between the rain and the not-so-understanding traffic.

Bottom line: Bike Course looks pretty awsome!
