Definitely RICE for the IT Band and use a foam roller or The Stick.

I had a similar problem when I was just a runner.  The physical therapist recommneded that I use the hip abduction weight machine to reduce pelvic tilt while running.  The pelvic tilt is from a leg length discrepancy.

This strength training is the reason I took up triathlons.

Did a 30 plus 5 brick today!  The run on the dreadmill felt AWESOME after 68 minutes on the spin bike.  I hope that's actually meaningful...

With Woodson out, it looks like the Steelers are in good shape to make this a game!

cheekymonkeys1 - 2011-02-05 11:19 PM It is on the outside of my knee - left outside. It did not stop hurting when I walked. If anything, it feels like it 'seized up' and is now stiff and still painful. Last week, I had similar issues, it took maybe 2 days to feel better.

O/T but I gotta "say" it where there's not a "negative nelly" to be found....

Just learned that a project sponsor that I worked for back in 2009 was put in charge of the Portolio & Project Office and Center of Process Excellence at the company he and I worked at.  Not saying probability is high but it is possible that this could mean HUGE things for me career-wise and I could even work it so training won't be affected.

I'm trying to curb my enthusiasm but I think that all of us, as triathletes, know that if something CAN happen and it's in our power to effect it, then there is reason to be excited.

Now I just gotta make sure that I don't burn up the pool during my swim workout in my excitement.

Everyone have a great, great day!  It's awesome to be in a group of motivated people!

Did my best run so far today (2.34 m in 25 m).  I have decided that unless there is no other way, I am off the treadmill and outside.  There is no comparison on the quality of the workout.  I hope to get to the pool today, but that may have to wait until tomorrow.

Have a good evening everyone.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. You guys are such a great bunch of supporters!

(Scott, thanks for all the links - very informative)

My knee is feeling much better today, very similar to last week actually. It's not right, but it's on the mend. I plan on taking it easy on the running this week, and will see how it holds up. Back to training tomorrow.

Rob, Sounds like you have something to look forward to, That's great news! Whoo hoo Laughing

Court, I'm with you on the outdoor training.

Anyone want to come run here in Ohio at night our temps are supposed to be -3?  I just keep thinking spring is around the corner (very long corner).

Is Deb the only one with a major race this month?

I'm going to scrathc strength training tomorrow and just swim.

Dave, do you see any negative repercussions from this?

Hi Team.

I hope you all had a great day. I had a busy one.

My swim was decent I guess.

Curling - nice night with the team but another loss - looks like I am going to have to put another team together for next year Frown - they just don't seem to care and I sense a lack of commitment. Oh well, that is ok, they are good guys but the team chemistry just does not seem to be there.

Tomorrow, I guess I will give that swimming another try Smile

I also just borrowed a pair of rollers so I may give them a try tomorrow as well - any advice on how to use them?

That's it for now - tired - off to bed. Have a great Tuesday everyone.

Good Morning Team.

I need a quick remedy for a cold - my nose has been running since 5 am this morning damn it! Frown

I was doing such a good job avoiding getting sick - I am very sad about this.

Do I need to go buy a Neti Pot?

Will try to swim and maybe bike today but I don't know, this clogged head may not allow it.

I hope you all have a great day.

If your legs are shot and you still want to do strength just do core.  If your legs are tired your workout will not be very effective and could lead to injury this early in the game.  Later in the season your legs will never be "rested" thats why people taper before big races.  I think its a good move as you know your body better than anyone.

Great 3 days!!

KC what rollers are you talking about? biking or foam for muscles.  If for biking make sure you start close to a wall as you WILL fall off them. :-)

Hey Coach - sorry I meant to say bike rollers and don't worry, I will set them up close to a wall and have plenty of padding on the ground Smile. Have you ever used them?

As far as the cold/flu bug - I am going to fight this off and I think a nice dose of chlorine this afternoon might help kill it - what do you think LOL.

KC - I know Scott swears by his netti pot. May be worth a try? There is nothing worse than being derailed during training!I actually did try a netti pot type thing over the weekend. It was not nearly as nice and neat as the YouTube video I watched before attempting. Lol -Have tissues handy. .Rollers? You're a brave, brave man!

Hey Deb - I just picked up a neti pot on my way home from work - sure hope it works - I am going downhill fast (and not on a bike damn it LOL)

Hi Team.

Something got me and I do not like it. Was going to try a lap swim at 4 but decided that is not in the cards for me today. I am going to try and walk that fine line between working out because I so desperately want to and need to (especially in the pool) and listening to my body tell me that something is in it I need to get rid of.

As I sit here at the home office with a box of tissues, cold fx, vitamin c and my neti pot faced with a very long tomorrow, I have decided  that a swim is not what I need right now. I am going to try to do something here at home that resembles a work out, I am just not sure what yet.

The only thing I fear or am frightful of is that nagging little thought coming from inside asking me if I am  not swimming because I can't, shouldn't or don't want to?  That doubt I am guessing we all get or have had that lies there barely under the surface questioning our commitment to push through and continue to train. Those stupid little questions, "are you giving up? Are you making excuses so you don't have to keep trying?"

I know, it is just irrational mumbo jumbo. I just don't want to lose my momentum. I just don't want one day missed to run into an oblivion of excuses.

Geese, I just read this and it sounds like I am delirious - maybe I am running a temperature LOL. I sure do appreciate all of you letting be bare my soul and exercise my demons like this. Embarassed

Come on Neti Pot - you have to work - I have to get in the pool tomorrow Smile

Have a great afternoon everyone.

KC

PS - am going to try those rollers later - but it is going to be very difficult to blow my nose on those things.
