Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED grnidone - 2007-11-06 4:38 PM OMG!! Tell me when it is and I will BE THERE!! Just to meet you! The race is December 9... but I think that I might be THE only one doing the race. I presume it will not be pretty... but oh so much fun! The BTers I know from Dallas are just awesome. I am counting on a good showing at the race. |

Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED gator22 - 2007-11-06 7:52 PM There is a group here that is EXACTLY the same way. I won't say the name of the group, but they are so snotty. They do like 30 mph group rides and are so arrogant it is ridiculous. There are other fun people around to train with though, and our city is way smaller than Dallas, so just keep looking....... Nothing ticks me off more than people who are jerks for no reason. It makes me wish flat tires and bumpy roads for all of them. In other news, I don't know if you all knew that our resident tri studs, Dan and Jorge, are competeing in Clearwater 70.3, the HIM World Championships, this Saturday. I'm sad that I will not be there this year, but maybe next year. Anyway, be sure to watch them online (yes, you can do that) Saturday morning.... and send them all of the awesomeness you have! |

Expert 856 Pittsburgh | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED Heather, You could post a message along the lines of that all the other triathletes you have met have always been friendly and very open to helping others, but obviously this group is different. Since most of the people won't know what your talking about, paste in the emails with who they came from. Then say good riddance and tell them to blow chunks. Good luck - sorry you've had that experience. |

Expert 844 | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED Here is a story for everyone...As I was walking around my always under construction home in my bare feet, I stepped on something. This was like two weeks ago, so I kept living and running. On Sunday, I noticed that it felt like I was stepping on a rock all the time, so I checked and there looked like a sliver in my foot. My fiance is an EMT, so she dug it out with a needle, (much to the pleasure of my kids) and found about a 1/4 inch nail in my foot!!! Well, it is a little sore. I am lucky that the police Dr. is infatuated with tetanus shots because I have had like 5 in the past four years....Always wear shoes when building kids!!!!! |

Veteran 219 Russell, KS | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED It sounds like the race went really well save for the shoes. How do you guys change out of wet gear for the bike ride if it is cold outside? I was planning on having my tri suit under the wet suit, but then my tri suit is all wet and cold. I have low blood pressure and get cold *really* easily. Do I just suck it up and bundle up over it? |

I have low blood pressure and get cold *really* easily. Do I just suck it up and bundle up over it? It really depends on the distance race. If it's a sprint, then I just suck it up. Anything more than that, I plan accordingly. Case in point, for this race, I had a set of arm warmers, and a light and thick pair of gloves in my T1 bag. The weather before the race 2 days prior was upper 50's. I know my legs don't get cold, but my hands and arms do, so I planned accordingly. Trisuits dry fairly quickly, but you can also throw on a long sleeve cycling jersey and go with that. The benefit to arm warmers is that you can roll them down if you get hot. Not so easy to do with a jersey. You train in the temperatures, so figure out before hand what you need. Hope that helps. |

Expert 856 Pittsburgh | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED It was only in the low 40's in my last race, and using Dan's advice then - of course! - I didn't dry off, and put my light nylon shell jacket over my tri suit when I got out of the water. The moisture inside the jacket warmed me up very quickly, and I didn't feel cold at all. I also put on my fingerless riding gloves. |

Expert 856 Pittsburgh | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED Robyn - Good luck on the interview today! But if you don't want the job, here are a couple of tips to bomb out of the interview! (These were really experienced by us on Thursday when we interviewed a number of college graduates): - Look down and fiddle with something while the interviewer is taking notes, then drop it and have it bounce and land on his feet. Then he picks it up and sees that you've been scrolling through your songs on your new iPhone! - When asked if your open to relocation, say you would have to ask you mom & dad! - Use every buzzword you know, then send a lengthy follow up letter with this sentences such as this: "The ability to offer and additional service to gain the competitors market while maintaining the highest efficiency is a continuous engineering effort." blah, blah, blah |

Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: triOK's Group - CLOSED grnidone - 2007-11-16 5:35 PM OK..I admit that Dan's RR is the first I've read.. What do the following mean? 200M Perf. Good Remainder: Good Breathing: Good Drafting: Good Waves: Average Navigation: Average Rounding: Good What does all that mean? 200M perf? *sigh* and what is "wheel sucking"? This is about learning right? You'd be amazed how many people probably don't know either. 200m per = How did you feel the first 200 meters of your swim was. This is usually where you "set up" your race. If you go out too hard, you can blow up. too easy, you miss the main swim pack. Did you get jostled around, etc. Basically it's asking how your race started Remainder = How did the rest of the swim go Breathing = Were you able to breath on both sides, breath enough, etc. The key to getting faster in the water is breath control and staying aerobic in the water. Drafting = When you swim behind someone's feet and use the draft they create to go faster. You save a lot of energy if you follow someone on the swim vice swimming by yourself. Drafting off of someone faster than you allows you to be able to swim at their pace but at an effort level that you can handle. You can also draft just off to the left or right of their feet/legs and get the same effects. Waves = Races generally start with waves right. M30-34, W18-24, etc. If you catch the waves in front of you, then you are swimming faster than they are. The problem is that you are swimming along and then encounter someone swimming slower than you. So catching the waves in front of you are good, but you have to be careful. Navigation = Open water swimming is much harder to stay straight than pool swimming. Keeping yourself in a straight line makes for a faster and more efficient swim. Rounding = This refers to going around the turn buoy's. This tends to be the most congested area on the course. People bunch up and it gets kinda crowded. Wheel sucking = When you are riding your bike, if you stay right behind the other rider, you save over 40% of your energy and go the same speed as the person you are following. Triathlon being an individual sport, this is not allowed. When you see road bikers in a pack or peleton, that is why they are so close to each other. It saves energy to sit behind someone and draft off of them. Think Nascar. You're sucking on the person in front of you's wheel, so it's called "Wheel Sucking". Hope that helps everyone! |
