Hi DM,  sorry for the delays on blogging, bit crazy on the work front at the moment, struggling to even get training in, hoping to run tonight.  Great to hear your trainer turned up,, yep definitely use the Skewer they give you. I's alot more robust wiyth two metal ends and up to the physical punishment plus the fit is alot more firmer,  have fun!

Hey Mark, thanks for the welcome.

Think it was a strange different.... not sure about good yet, as the only chance I've had of trying it was in a windy, choppy swell for 15 minutes last week.  Not planning on using it at Hillarys this weekend as the main reason I got it was for the Busso swim leg I'm doing and I don't want to confuse myself too much this weekend, as it's only my 2nd tri!

I'll be testing it out again next week hopefully when I only have the swim to train for so I'll let you know then

Hi Nigel! Welcome to BT! Thanks for your comments on my race report. I tried to send you a message to say thanks but I don't know if you got it, it looks like its still sitting in my inbox!

Good luck for Hillary's on the weekend! Its a nice course, I've done it twice now, its a touch challenging with the hills.

With regards to measuring your swims - I use Google earth and try to map between landmarks. I usually swim just south of Hillarys marina, there are three stone jettys there and I swim between them.

PS - start logging your training so we can stalk you leave you inspiring messages! And don't forget to write a race report after Hillarys

PPS - with regards to the wetsuit, it helps in two ways. One is to make you more buoyant so you can swim faster. The other is to keep you warm, which will be important down in Busso! Hillarys is only a sprint race so not everyone will be wearing one. Always remember to use lots of BodyGlide! I get really chafed around my neck, armpits and arms with my wetsuit.

DM - great to hear thet they're going to re-open Lords! So all that campaigning was worth it! I've never been to the gym there but I have played netball and indoor soccer there over the past few years.

good luck to Nigel and Magda for the weekend, will be checking for race reports come Monday.Smile  Hey, the emoticons finally work on my Mac.

Nigel, I have two sleeveless wetsuits after I put minimum bids on e-bay for them and won them both for peanuts but they're not tri suits and I haven't been in the ocean yet.  My idea was just to get some ows-ing before shelling out lots of $$ for a proper tri one as I've only done the really short events so far and my body has been narky about moving up to longer events. I've been swimming in the river - should have worn the suit as a barrier between me and all the manky water - yuck.

Thanks for the kind words folks - tomorrow is a big day!  The BRW was more of a day out with the people from work, this seems a lot more serious.  Looking at last years times I'm sure I'll be down the back but hey, got to start somewhere.

Tried the wetsuit out again today, and it didn't feel anywhere near as tight as it did last time - even managed to zip it up myself this time   The ocean was very calm this morning which helped, but I'm still not sure I dare try it tomorrow as I really need to lose another couple of kgs for it, and it was got for Busso not for Hillarys.  I'll be taking it with me tomorrow and I'll decide on the day.  Got a mate from work doing it as well, who's also doing the Busso swim so we'll be able to give ourselves a good trial run for May.

Had a close shave today - out shopping and some idiot had spilt some water in the mall, which I didn't see until it was too late and I was flat on my backside.  Think I've got away with a sore calf that should be OK for tomorrow.

Oh, got your PM Magda - thankyou, just the boost I need

Daisy - go for a swim down by Langley Park, you'll defo need the wetsuit then :P

Training log for the last 2 weeks is up - it's been a bit tricky doing anything other than lunchtimes as I've family visiting but will get back into it soon.

Bit of a background, as I don't want to set any expectations!

Used to swim a fair bit - was a competative water polo player until 20 then only played soccer with mates since.  Got a bit out of shape in the recent years so started running with guys fromwork on a lunchtime last October.  Couldn't even run 3km without 2 or 3 breathers..... Got a bike for Christmas and started swimming again in Jan, purely to do the BRW corporate tri.  It was such good fun, 2 of us are doing the one tomorrow and we have 2 teams and one soloist entered for Busso.  It's addictive isn't it?  Anyway, where I'm at now is I can run 10km without stopping, can get into work from home on the bike in reasonable shape (for me!) in 1 hour 35 - 40 and can swim 1500m no trouble. Not had the time to swim the 1.9 I'll be doing in May, but got time for that in the next couple of weeks!

Anyway, enough of me, hope you all have a great weekend and gl with any racing your doing.

well, with the wild weather we're having at the moment, I got the bike trainer set up for the first time and it's great.  I know you said it would be quiet but I didn't expect it to be nearly silent!  Thanks so much for the recommendations, I thought I would have to shell out a lot more $s.  I can see me spending many happy minutes hours in front of the DVD player or singing along to blaring tunes while I while away the miles.  How's everyone doing with the wind?  We've huge branches down everywhere and lots of mud washed from the verges onto the pavements - much to my 5 year old's delight.

Hi Mackman, welcome aboard.  I've been here just over a year, live in Nedlands and find the site incredibly helpful.  If you start filling in your logs, we can leave you inspires and keep in touch.  Are you following a plan?

Hi daiseymouse, yeah im following a plan i made up for myself. I follow it no problem during the week but at the weekends i suffer from lack of commitment Embarassed

Mon - Cycle +abs
Tue - Run
Wed - Swim
Thurs - Cycle + Abs
Fri - Rest
Sat - Run
Sun - Swim

I dont know if im over doing it or not. Ive seen some plans and they have 2/3 rest days a week. I dont feel right doing that though, i would feel lazy Smile
I have still a good way to go. Ill start with the log today.

Just saw this topic and thought i'd say g'day!

I'm pretty new to triathlons having complete my first short course in November. I've just signed up for the mentor program on here which has already been very useful. Hoping to complete a full Tri in 2011 (maybe before the end of this summer).

Oh and im in Bunbury Laughing

Hello I am very new to triathlon, my name is Alfred.  I can cycle and run, BUT, I am still learning to swim.  I am looking for a good and understanding swimming coach around Lynwood area - Riverton Leisureplex and a triathlon club I can join. Know anyone?

Cheers

Hi Alfred

Happy New Year!!  I learnt to swim for my first tri four years ago so know how daunting it can be.   I'm in Nedlands so can't help with a local coach but if you go onto the TWA website, there's a list of all the triathlon clubs and who to contact.

http://triwa.org.au/clubs/affiliated-club-contacts/

I did the course at Challenge stadium for the Pink tri and then did the novice course with the Stadium Club which was fantastic, really good coaching and great fun.

Hope your training goes well in 2011

Hi All,

Been on this site for a while but never registered. Today is officially the first day I'm starting training for the 11/12 Tri-season and the Half-Ironman in 12 months time. With the Half-Ironman out the way on the weekend just gone, it's now time to start getting ready for the next season - my first season in tri.

Originally from an Adventure Racing and Mountain Biking background, and both my brothers do Ironman events every year, I've given in and agreed to do tri's as well.

Live in Perth, out east near Guildford/Midland area...
