10 days out is mighty close, think there would be something.  Should be a hoot...looking forward to a well-run race compared to the usual hit-or-miss IM brand events.

ibndalight - 2012-07-30 12:02 PM Is any of the bike course chip and seal or are the roads all in good shape? Any one know?

I rode a large percentage of the course on Tuesday.  Bluff Road is still full of gravel, especially on the shoulders/sides.  I sent a note to the race team suggesting they sweep it.  Hopefully that will happen.  Otherwise, the roads in this part of the State are in very good condition.

I just found out that the water temp in Tommy Bartlett Bay is 80.  Not sure where they measure for the official reading. They said the recent rains have been cooling the water.

Forecast has cooler days ahead.

AHHH!  Surprised

I just got the Athlete Guide and the cut off times differ from the website. For the Half rev. the website says you have 1:15 from the start of the last wave, but the guide says 1:00 from the start of the last wave. I am swimming at 1:00 and this change could totally ruin my race.

I have e-mailed the RD and we will see what they say.

Has anyone seen this before?

What is the normal swim cutoff time?

The last wave is the olympic wave which start 30 after half waves. So its a really long cut off almost 2 hours

Since I'm not sure how Rev3 races work, I question your logic. From my other races, the cut off times were based on the last wave of your race, not all races. My interpretation is that if the last half rev wave starts at 7:50 then we would have until 8:50 or I'm hoping 9:05. And that it is not based on any Oly starts.

I'm still waiting to hear back.

Just wait for their response. This is the first Time Trial start I'm aware of for Rev3.

Thanks! They have swept roads at their other races, so hopefully here too. At least that part is all uphill.

Just heard back from Rev3.

For being a well run org. I find this funny.

"The website is correct.  Please ignore that number in the Athlete guide.  The cut off time is 1:10 and it starts with the last wave to head out.  We are "flexible" with cut-off times so don't be worried!!  Let me know if you have any other questions!!"

What is funny about this is that the website used to say 1:15, now it says 1:10 and the guide says 1:00.  I've lost 3% faith that it is well run.

I did still ask if it was the last half wave or last oly wave. Waiting for that response.

Just got this from Rev3:

The last wave to start...  It doesn't matter what race it is!! :-)

That works for me. But I'm a bit surprised. That means that the swim cutoff is around 9:40 assuming the last Oly wave starts at 8:30 and then add 1:10 to that. That also means we have until 5:00 to finish the race. I think I'll be getting clarification ahead of time. But as least I don't have to worry about it.

I rode the loop portion of the course this afternoon - very hot with little shade, very steep hills (the big 3 anyway, DL, Bluff, Beich).  But the downhills were definitely fun (8% downhill on DL a little while after the monster climb!) and the roads were 95% great.  Much better in fact than most of the roads I am used to riding on.  Yeah, the gravel on Bluff and some rough pockets in Baraboo, but otherwise I was very impressed.  Now if I could just swap in a fresh pair of legs before the run and I'd be set!

Quick question - is cola typically provided on the run at Rev3 events?  The FAQ on the web site says yes, but the guide doesn't list it.

I see the temps are down a bit leading up to the race as well. Sounds weird, but I actually want it to be warm enough that I'll be ok without a wetsuit. I want the practice for another, later race.

Rev3 posted water temp as 78.9 on Facebook a little earlier this evening. Temps for Wisconsin Dells are only supposed to reach high 70's the next few days as well. Lows around 50.

Where are you see this? I couldn't find it anywhere. If this is the case it sound like it will be no wetsuits

Another fb post this morning - temp at 77.  They think it will stay 76-77 for race morning.  Technically this is wetsuit legal even if you're looking to podium if I'm not mistaken (<78).  I'll be happy to finish the race standing up, but I like to keep the playing field somewhat level, so I think I will be wearing my wetsuit if the temps follow the prediction and go without if it's over 78.  Plus it's looking like a chilly morning, so another vote for the wetsuit.

In case anyone else was wondering, I got a response on my cola question - yes it will be provided at the run aid stations.  Good luck to everyone this weekend!  Heading up tomorrow afternoon.  Making a family vacation/long weekend out of it and staying at the Wilderness.  Anyone else staying there?

I don't actually know, but from their other races would guess from a few hundred up to 500 or so? There will be people around on the course, but it won't be packed like an MDot event.

From an email I got about registration they told me they were expecting to sell out at 1200. Not sure how accurate that is or how many per race.

I'll make a correction here. I just walked around and looked at the transistion area. 1200 is not even close, I think the 500 is more accurate. I guess the guy on e-mail was hopeful to have more.

Hope everyone made it around ok. I skipped the run, calf has been too troublesome the past week to take the chance.

That bike course was definitely something. Hope it was found as challenging instead of discouraging. Anything I don't break 2:30 on definitely constitutes "hard". I was ~2:34:45 at Quassy, just about the toughest of the major series races  in the nation. I was only about a minute faster today. And I was a few minutes closer to Cunningham who raced both (and won both).

Quassy has more volume in climbing, but none of it is quite as steep as the 3 major ones here. Those 3 really make you work.

How was the far part of the run? I've only done the Oly section, but remember it well.

Also curious just how much elevation anyone else had. My Edge 800 seems to be coming in low relative to others. Especially in cooler temps.

Hope everyone enjoyed our costumes and spectator support on the big hill on the bike (mile 18) and the run around mile 12. Looking forward to doing that race next year!

Melted my wheel coming down the second hill and ended up DFL before I got rolling again thanks to all who offered help. It was kind of fun running at the back of the pack but very alone. Was wearing sharks on my shorts if you saw me crying by the side of the road
