Good afternoon Gents....Just completed a 3 mile run and a 1 hour weight training class...feel spent...in a good way I guess. Haven't run that distance in like 6 months...don't imagine I broke any speed records but I did it. Enjoy the weekend...we're supposed to get blasted with some snow! Lisa

Looking at how much month is left and where I am at I am still shooting for a 200 mile month on the bike and a 40 plus mile month running.  I am not sure what the swim will bring.

I did some figuring today and if I stay to task I should be able to make 2 out of three goals.  With the pool being closed sooooooo long I am in too deep of a hole but I should be  able to crank out the bike and run goal for the month.  As usual I'll start slow and finish hard!

Steve...good job....keep plugging away....2 out of 3 ain't bad...sounds like a song! . I had a dare I use the f word....a fun workout....guess I did a circuit...I think....ran 4 laps, used a weight machine, ran 4 laps, used a maching etc etc for an hour...it's nice to mix things up once in awhile...anyways I found it enjoyable....I still find it weird that I can use exercise and enjoyable in the same sentence...after soooo many years of strictly using exercise as a means to lose weight it is nice to enjoy it as a means for feeling better...stronger. I have a question...I am doing this sprint as a means to get me motivated to eat right and exercise regularly...my intent is to finish the darn thing...I was planning in training to work up to the distances for each event plus to add maybe 3-4 miles for the bike...1-2 miles added to the run and maybe 150-250 yards for the swim....any reason I would need to workout at any further distances? Thanks, Lisa

Had another question...was reading some of the other training logs...any TI tips you can give for the beginner swimmer...perhaps the techniques are too complicated to explain in this format...thought I'd ask. Thanks, Lisa

Lisa,

I am a firm beleiver in the TI method.  Check at you local library to see if they have the book.  I'd mail you mine but I promised it to a training buddy here that wants to turn one of the local tri's in to a cripples race between us (both of us are bad knee guys).

As for your training distances you are talking about exactly what I did last year.  I actually was swimming twice the distance of the race because I was looking to build fitness without beating my knees.

Early this spring you should try doing a brick or two.  That is doing a bike workout (maybe shorten it just a bit) and go through your transition and do a run workout.  It is amazing how dead your legs feel when you go from the bike to the run.  Experiencing that before a race would be good.

Let me know if you find the TI stuff.  I might beable to get my buddy to hustle up with it.

Thanks for the info...I'll check my library and get back to you. Actually my library is pretty good about ordering books if they don't have what I'm looking for. Could you give me the exact title of the book. Thanks, Lisa

Good deal!  I'll be looking for a report to see how the drills went  Take it slow and easy and from the beginning.

It was one year ago i was beginning to convert from swimming only breast stroke to swimming free style.  It was a painful conversion and I had to swallow my pride many a times.  I would never have beleived i would be where I am at today a year ago (and i have a looooong way to go).

Remember this - every journey starts with the first step.  You're taking that step!

Ken,

You and I would be the only ones.  The other Steve is an early riser (therefore early to bed).  The others aren't bronze members.  I'll try and be there tonight but I a dragging a bit today so I can't make any serious promises.

Hey guys!  It looks like we may have lost Chris (erlifeguard).  I haven't seen a post in his log for a while and I haven't had any return messages.  I hope nothing serious is going on.

Hey all - Sorry I've been gone for a week...  I updated my logs for last week, though there was nothing really to add.  I was in PA for business and the workouts just didn't happen.  I got back into the saddle tonight and start tomorrow with some biking and swimming.

Hope all is well!

Hey Ken!

What are you using for a training plan?  Any warm up races along the way?  What can we do specifically to help keep you motivated and focused?

I'm in awe.  I hope to someday beable to do a HIM.  I'm not sure my body will hold out and not fall apart before then.  I'm reading a good book called Mental Training.  I think we all overlook that part of our training.

I'll help as long as you promise to post pics of you crossing that finish line !  Let us know.

I'll be using the training plan off this site (loosley). As far as other races, I am doing an indoor Tri in Feb. (mostly for fun), a 25k run in may, and shorter tris in both june and july as "warm ups".
