Looks like our team is off to a good start. We're in third place after the first week. Let's go out and kick some butt this week. Look at your goals and work on getting them close to 50% by the end of the week. If you leave too much for the final weeks it may be difficult to make your goals and/or it may hurt in getting there.

LET'S GO OKRA!

How'd the weekend treat the okras?

Had a great tailgate party to kickoff the college tailgating season (we don't call it football season at Mississippi State).  Even managed to get a run through campus in Saturday morning.

Good job Okras.  I'll get a few more miles in this week.  I'm glad I set a reasonable goal since I'm just getting back into it.  Believe it or not 24 will be enough for me this month.

I think runrachie was ill last week.  Leave her an "inspire" to feel better.

Go Okras!

(ps...I had Okra in my gumbo today.  MMMM)

How'd the weekend treat the okras?

I did a two mile race on Saturday and a sprint duathlon on Sunday. I took 2nd in AG in the du, 7th overall. I did an easy 8+ miles today.

Yesterday was a nice little 5-miler. Unfortunately the first week of the challenge was a cutback week before the last weeks of my marathon plan, so my percentages are a bit wimpy. Second week will probably look sad, too, since my 16 mile run on Sunday will be logged on the week 3 mileage. Never fear, though, because I also have my 18 and 20 mile long runs during this month, so I should finish strong.

Awesome job to everybody else for getting us in the top 3 last week!

How'd the weekend treat the okras?

My weekend started Thursday morning.  We set up 9 campsites in a record-setting rain on Thursday (why'd I take vacation for this??) and then I spent the rest of the weekend scurrying around meeting the needs of 65 scout leaders.  Got home 9:30 Sunday night. )Not much time for running, but I knew this weekend was coming when I set my goals.

Too much stuff going on today. I only had time for a little over 8 miles. I felt really sluggish today and I wanted to quit at about 4 miles, but I forced myself to finish out the run. These kind of runs are helpful in building the mental toughness to keep pushing in the later miles of a race so even though I wasn't feeling wonderful I knew there would be some benefit.

Today's run put me just over 15 miles (1/3 of my goal) on 9/10 (1/3 of the month)!  I knew the first weekend would be pretty much no-running, so I'm happy with where I am.

I got 5 miles in this morning. That gives me 36.42 miles and puts me at 43% of my goal.

Looks like the okrae are really turning the legs over.  Good start, everybody.  It's much easier to get ahead than catch up, so the team is doing great.

If all goes according to plan, I should hit 50% tonight.  There are some iffy weekends coming up, the last one in September especially, where I might get to do no running at all, so I need to be a little ahead at the start of next week.

So, out of curiousity...  Why did everyone set the goal they did?

As for me, my triathlon season is over and done with, and I have no events planned until a half mary in January.  Well, I have a wedding planned, but I can already fit into my tux  Running is by far my weakest discipline, so this seemed like a good month to just get out there and keep the base up until I start training for the half mary and a HIM in April.  50 miles was a nice round number that was just over a 5k for half the days in the month.

I'm starting my build for Boston. My plan is to get up to running 80-90 miles/week by February.

Good running everyone. We're all making progress.

My run today brings me to just over 89 miles for the month, or just short of 45%.

Nice to see everyone out there getting it done!  My first tri season is over for me as well so I figured I'd focus on running for the first couple of months of the off-season.  It is my favorite discipline, really for the simplicity of just being able to go out and run and enjoy it.  I’m planning on running a half mary in early Oct and Nov to have some short term goals.  Plan on focusing on swimming during the dark winter months and then the bike as Spring comes back around.
I’m a little over 40% of goal, so chugging along.  Might be a tough weekend coming up but should be able to make up anything that I miss.

Keep Running!

Great job so far!

Ahh... I used to hate to run, but you're right, the simplicity of it all has really made me warm to it.

I do miss the pool though.  But this is no month to worry about that!

Yes, I qualified in May at the Colorado Marathon. I ended up taking almost 27 minutes off my previous PR, and beating my BQ time by about 9 minutes. I even place 3rd in AG. I've never been to Boston so I'm excited. I'd like to BQ again during the race, but even if I do I may not race there again. Even though an open marathon and an IM race are different beasts, I've delayed doing an IM until I could get a BQ and race in Boston. The next challenge will be to see if I can qualify for Kona and that may be way more difficult. It may have to wait until I get into the next age group, but there are some super fast older guys and I don't know if I'll ever be in their league.

Congrats!  That is one special PR.

I've crossed the Boston finish line before.  Of course it was after a few beers, some clams, and a bowl of chowder

Guys,
I am going to take 4-5 days off. I am having a lot of pain in both knees. I am hoping this little bit of rest will be all I need to heal them up.

I set a very low goal (24 miles) because I'm just getting back into running.  I experienced some Bell's Palsy last year, then sprained my ankle after being released to run, then took a hard fall about 10 weeks ago while painting my deck.  Dang....I'm falling apart!

Things are getting better though, but even this little bit of running has bothered my hip (injured during the fall).

Some rest should help.  You might try doing some walking with good shoes on a softer surface.
