you know that'd be awesome to have you guys over and have one of those beers that you need to stop drinking... but i don't live in colorado.  I live in Aurora, IL - which if any of you are familiar with wayne's world... is a suburb of Chicago IL.  I'll see if i can get some pics over the next few days, i'm going to go do a run (thank you treadmills so i can run in a blizzard) tonight so I can't tonight, and am going to likely spin tomorrow morning before the lady wakes up.  I'll post the pics to my album and then refer to them here or post on your guys blog to let you know.

I'll give some of these fit tips a try tonight (wont do any spinning longer than 5 minutes though).  Of to go work out!

I might be in Chicago in March for training (depends on if there is still training budgets left). We can have a beer then!

I'll likely be in Atlanta as well sometime this year but I'm not sure of the dates yet.

WHo says we aren't supposed to be drinking beer? Oh, yeah...my gut that hangs over my belt! Pointed out by my mother over Christmas too. Marathon trainign always trims it down but I make sure I keep that in check by drinking beer.

I wanted folks to be aware of this story. I have had the pleasure of racing next to Scott (at a small sprint in GA--not Kona unfortunately) and he is a true inspiration.

yeah we can surely plan that.  If you're training in the loop, i work in the west loop across the river.  Just a little forward thinking, you should plan a training session the last week in august and end the week by doing the chicago tri

Off topic, I've been listening to "Get your Geek on" podcast and while they really love their blogs they have some cool info on there.  The majority of the show is just two people talking about cool stuff they've learned about triathlons but there are some good peices of knowledge wedged in there.  Such as this:

I learned about this training method that they (teamevo) are pushing people to do for the off season to stay motivated and that is to do as many (or at least one) ironman races in a month - spread out over the course of the month.  It may not be as satisfying as finishing the IM in one day but at least you can get an idea for the distances and stay motived while training.  I started mine yesterday.

Also cameron, have you had a chance to take a look at my questions regarding running/IM 70.3 training?  Let me know if you have because i'm not very familiar with the BT blog system so I may just not know how to find it.

Thanks in advance for the help!

AMAZING.  truly inspirational.  you know those days when you think you've got it tough and you're kicking around the dirt, and then you read something like this and it just really sheds light on what's really up.  we all have the potential to be great, we just have to know it. thanks for sharing.

 my favorite prt tho would probably have to be the end bit about being able to adjust his height on dates ;

AND as far as your trip to chicago, i'll definately be taking part in this consumption of beer ; )

 cheers

The night before my HIM last summer I watched the Kona coverage, his story and others really inspire.

I can still hear the clicking sound his running makes.

Humbling.

Thanks for the link.

I'm a native of California if that helps. :-)  But am currently living in New York - hopefully for only another year or so (who can stand this cold weather? I want to go back home!!)

I am signed up for Avia Wildflower in Monterey this year. :-D

 Sigh.

I've only been to just south of Tahoe in California and the wind farms east of Oakland (Altamont). This May, my 24 hour relay team will be competing in "The Relay" which goes through the SFB area. I am really looking forward to it.

Here is the course. http://www.therelay.com/co_maps.htm

The relay race looks awesome. I grew up in Los Altos / Palo Alto area. Woodside and Atherton are really cool towns.

How does the race work - everyone takes turns doing certain sections? Is there a van that follows you or something?

Has anyone ever done Ride the Rockies? My brother and I have been talking about it for a couple of years, and hope to actually ride one year. Is it really really hard? Just curious, it looks cool. And isn't New Belgium Brewing a sponsor? Yum!

yeah where did everyone go with their posts?  I'm re evaluating my race season.  My original goal was to do an olympic distance this season with some smart and strong training over the next few months, but it must be because of podcasts that are heavily IM focused that I want to try a half iron man.

Unfortunately this is not a great year for that as i'm getting married in june, my race i'm all registered for falls right around the same time as most HIM's and I just didn't want to overload august.

Which i guess I can ask some of you, i'm all set up to go for the chicago triathlon (olympic distance) at the end of august... if I were able to do the distance and race the Steelhead 70.3 in the beginning of august, would the month of august be spent recovering/tapering for the chicago tri?  If anyone could weigh in with their opinion on how august would be for me doing a 70.3 in the beginning and then an olympic at the end would be... please help!

Also anyone have any cyclocomputer reccomendations for indoor spinning?  I want to track my miles and my computer broke last year.   I'm looking for a wireless so i don't have to worry about running wires to my rear tire.

I'm running the Carlsbad Marathon next week.  Just trying to shake this deep soreness before the race.  Anyone else doing this run?  I know it's not a tri but I think it is a good start for training.

Joel - congrats on the upcoming wedding.

Sorry, I'm no help in the bike computer or race planning department. Cameron will be able to help you I'm sure.

I'm also contemplating a HIM in the fall. I know I can get through the swim and bike, it's the 13.1 miles that terrifies me. Do you have a particular training plan picked out for the HIM? I found one that I kind of like -

Wow Karen that link to the training program was exactly something that I was looking for!  Thanks for the info.   I'm pretty scared of the 13.1 too.

Glad you found it helpful. I printed it out and have backed into the start date, I still have a while before I need to start that plan, so I think I'll start the 18 week Oly plan for now and switch over when week 1 of the HIM starts. Actually, they may not overlap any if at all so the timing might be perfect.

The only oly distance I did (last year) I did great until the 6.2 mile run. I was proud of myself for running all but a couple of the big hills, (ok, and a couple of water stops) but it was painful. I'm hoping that the training plan will bring it all together and the 13.1 will be doable. If not, I'm a pretty fast walker!

SORRY that I sort of dropped off of the map.  I struggle with depression and it was getting the better of me.  I didn't go to the gym THREE days! (long time for me) but still managed to at least do Pilates at home.  I am trying to get back on track now with a hard workout yesterday and a moderate workout today.

I'm from the Central Valley of California and am currently living in NYC. :-)

Does anyone have thoughts on insoles for running shoes?  When I bought my shoes, someone mentioned that the standard insoles that come in shoes are toast after a couple weeks or running.  Just trying to figure out if there is any truth to this.

After Kansas 70.3 last summer, I joined my wife in a Sprint a couple of weeks later. It seemed like a breeze after working so hard for 70.3. I would keep up with a couple of short hard efforts a week until the Olympic to stay fresh, but your fitness will already be there so don't overdo it in between.

There is truth to this but the insoles are not really part of the cushioning system of the shoes. Pull them out after 50 miles or so and you will see how compressed they have become.

If you don't mind the weight and don't want to buy custon orthotics, Superfeet makes a great insole that will last approximately a year or several pairs of shoes. I wear them if I am going to be standing all day as they help relieve foot stress but I don't like to run in them although I probably should.

NYC in winter would kill me. I have to be outdoors without cars and people.
