iowagander - 2010-03-01 2:27 PM Just wanted to drop the good news that I'm officially signed up for my first Tri now! It's the San Diego International Triathlon on June 27. It's an "almost" Olympic distance race, with a 1000m swim and a 30k bike. Oddly enough, the run is slightly OVER 10k. Oh well...

There is a Sprint I'm considering for May, but at least I have this one officially on the calendar. Nothing says "stick to your training plan" like financial obligation!!!

aint that the truth TOM.

way to go jumping into the deep end of the wonderful world that is TRIATHLON!

WHOOP!

your gonna be GRAND!

Funny, that's exactly how I feel! This race has a Sprint option as well, but I figured that I have 4 months to prepare, and why not give myself a challenge. Just looking at the training program I have prepared I've definitely bitten off a lot here, but it's gonna be fun.

And Bill - sorry to hear about the cancelled Xterra race. My .02 would say to do all the bike events you can, since you obviously love that discipline. And if there's a running race that looks FUN and you have some friends to play with, then go for it. If not there's always next year.

Very cool Tom!  Nothing like getting that race on the calendar to help out the motivation.  Can't wait to see how it goes!

So I just finished up week 16 of my off season swim focus.  The whole goal was to swim a sub 16 minute 1000 yd time trial by the the beginning of March.  I started out swimming a 17:21 in November and today's time trial I clocked a 15:37!  To say I'm happy with the progress would be an understatement.  I cannot wait to race now.

Now it will be nice to focus a little less on the swim and a little more on the bike from here on out.

Hi Ghoulies.  Busy day at work so missed today's chat. Look forward to catching up.

The best part of the day......picking up the mail.  There was a white envelope in the box with a fabulous GHOULIE Technical T-shirt.  Yeah Ann!!! You rock.  I can't wait to wear it.  In fact, I'm going to do the local St. Patty's 5k in a few weeks and think it will be the perfect race shirt to run for a Ghoulie PR.

Run Ghoulie's Run.

BTW, the weight loss was not what I'd hoped.  3 lbs down for the month.  9 lbs to go to race weight.

Yeah, I was doing something close to 50000 yds a month.  I'm pretty sure the chlorine smell is permanent now

Ok, I promised bike goals for the month.  After looking at my run training and swim goals, I'm going to target biking 2 x week, for an hour per session.  I'm assuming all of this will be on the trainer at approx 14 mph.  Guestimate, not sure why I picked that pace.  My race pace on flats is 17 - 19 mph.  Using Ann's target of +10% that is 140 miles this month. Not mega mileage, but my weakness is definitely swimming and running so need to keep those sessions a priority.

Thank you Kim. Unfortunately it's still heaping with a big pile of toppings, but I'll be OK. The Village has been a HUGE source of help for me, and I hope you all know that I appreciate each and every one of you greatly. Thanks a million!

Wow. A gouhl goes away for a day or two and there's a whole new thread! I can't believe it's March already. I have no idea what y weight is...I was down about 1-5 to 2 pounds before this trip...but having been wined and dined in teh finest of establishments for 2+ days now...I don't want anything to do with a scale, LOL. I had to skip my last 2 workouts before I went out of town because of minor things like making sure there were groceries in the house for the sitter to feed the kids. LOL. And now all the endless food, and waiters with wine, and hosts that require i drink another pina colada--with DOUBLE rum!!! Good times, until I have to step on the scale. I am excited to get home and see what the mailman brought me. Maybe a cool goulie shirt? I am still slightly buzzed from the wine with dinner tonight, and the hubby is asking me to turn off the light, so I'm gonna go now. Hopefully I'll be able to check in again soon. If not, I'll be back home Thursday afternoon-ish. Then again I have to work Thursday night. If I don't check in while I'm still in Phoenix, I'll be back Friday-ish. (that sounds sooo far away. ).Does anybody know of a good tri outlet in Phoenix? Our hotel is righ by the airport, and the convention is downtown. TIA if anyone has any suggestions. MWAH and goodnight!
