charmedangel4 - 2012-04-15 10:13 PM Glad to hear you had a great race Erin.
This week I am also on vacation. I leave tomorrow. My goals this week are:
Bike 13 miles
Run 2x at least 5 miles each time
Swim 3x practicing the things I learn from Coach Wendy

Unfortunately, I didn't accomplish all of my goals last week. I did the 13 mile bike ride and only swam twice. It was great not sitting on shore and actually getting in the water and having fun. It made me excited to learn more.

I didn't run at all but I did a lot of walking. I wish I owned the smaller more fashionable Garmin it would be nice to know how far I swam and walked.

This week my goals are:

Monday: Run 3 miles & Bike 10 miles

Tuesday: Swim Lesson with Coach W

Wednesday: Strength train & Run 3 miles (hills)

Thursday: Rest

Friday: Run 3 miles (interval)

Saturday: Bike 13 miles and possibly get a few practice laps at the pool

Sunday: Run 6 miles (easy)

Also I plan to watch what I eat by keeping a food diary and start counting calories this week.

I hope everyone has a good training week!

I am pretty happy about this week. Got all 6 workouts in, including my two runs, and two rides on my new road bike. Had a little help from some good weather part of the week. I am especially proud of myself for getting out of bed early on my usual sleep-in day to get a ride in before the rain started. This week I hope to get my 6 workouts in again hopefully. I would like to make it to spinning class once this week. I'd like to get two runs in again, although it might be tough with the weather colder this week since I hate the treadmill so much.Good luck to everyone!

wtg kelly! I skipped the "getting up early to beat the weather" trick and instead skipped my second bike workout as it was waaaaaay too hot - over 90 both days this weekend.  I was dedicated in the pool to balance skipping the bike and put in a huge effort there.  I'm *beat* tonight - between the heat and extra swim workouts it's doing this poor girl in.  I hope I sleep well tonight!  It is supposed to be 20* cooler tomorrow so I should be able to get a good run in - and may hop on the trainer (or road!) too.  We'll see how my body feels.  I'm hydrating tonight so should be recovered and good to go!

Last week's goal: My goal this week (Apr 16 - 22) is to resume exercising / training. No more excuses (be they health, which I am mostly recovered, work, or otherwise). I plan on hopping on the (new!) treadmill tonight and then I would like to get in 2 swims, 1 bike & 1 add'l run this week.

Personal feedback: I somewhat met my goal this past week. I did resume exercising / training, though I didn't quite get in all the sessions I was hoping (didn't make it to the pool at all). I did get two good rides in - a 24km one yesterday (on a bike that I discovered was way too small) and a 10km one today, which was test-riding my new bike (yay!).

This week's goal: Let's keep it simple... 2 swims, 2 bikes, 2 runs.

I'm fairly pleased with almost achieving my goals for last week despite it constantly tipping down with rain and strong winds.  Swam and ran three times and did a brick session (bike/run) but STILL only got out on my bike once.  I also swam my Try a Tri distance of 400m without stopping and then continued on to complete 1.2km swims with pauses of course!

So, this week I would like to get out on my bike for longer sessions at least twice.  Run & swim three times as normal.  I also want to lose roughly 7lbs so am going to watch my nutrition just a little bit closer.  Already eat healthily but can perhaps cut back slightly more here and there (e.g. NO MAYO in my tuna & pasta - boo hoo!).  Also want to very slightly increase my running from 5.5km to at least 6.5km.

Erin- you were right.  When I did my small brick session on Saturday morning my legs DID feel as though they were going faster than my normal run sessions.  I slightly increased my speed again to 8.94km/h.  I am SO excited about getting close to hitting the 9km/h mark!  Well done on your training - make sure you take your rest day today - it's not only us beginners that need them!

Kelly - congrats on your new road bike.  Hope you're enjoying it.  I got my first ever road bike a few weeks ago so am still adjusting to the new cycling position and feel of the bike etc.  It feels SO light compared to my old trail bike and I haven't yet got to the stage where I can take one hand off to adjust clothing or drink without wobbling all over the place!

Nicki - big congrats on resuming your exercising/training.  I think you did brilliantly for your first week.

Good luck with your training this week everyone.

I'm on a high!  I hit the trails this morning for a run  - the first mile was all uphill so while I "ran" almost the whole thing, it was at a paltry 18min/mi pace.  BUT I hit the top and headed down and the next 1.4 miles was covered in 16 minutes!  woooweee!  I feel my muscles from this morning and from swimming this weekend and it feels good!

My goals are the same as last week, 3 run, 2 bike, 2 swim.

If any of you guys are in need of swim workouts, holler.  I've got some 1500 yd ones and a ton of 3000 yd ones.  Swimming is my thing.  Running.... not so much.  But I'm getting better.

Erin I could really use a 1500 yd swim plan. Also on Wednesday I plan on doing some strength training. Are there any exercises that I can do that will help my swimming?

Thank you!

Natalya - I've sent you a PM regarding the swim workouts

For weights, this isn't weights, but I really love pilates for swimming.  All that core stuff is GREAT for swimming.  Other weights which would be good are lat pulls, triceps, chest press/bench press, a bunch of crunches, some lower leg stuff (compound movements like lunges or squats).  Does that help?

I love rest days   Its funny, every Monday I feel like I've been run over by a bus.  Then I realized that the bus was my bike and I was doing the driving.   I have 6 more hard weeks to Boise and then its go time   Tomorrow I should be ready to go full speed again.

Okay, have I completely missed something or am I just being very English but - What is an Insanity Workout?! Embarassed

Congrats on your training this morning Cynthia.  Sounds like you're on a real high!

As for me, I went out at 7am this morning in torrential rain and gale force winds and ran 6km.  Got absolutely drenched but was so pleased that I'd done it.  Hot shower, bowl of porridge and then off to teach Pilates.  I feel good and am going to fit in a swim session late this afternoon too.

Have a good day everyone (I think most of you are between 5 and 8 hours behind me here in France so are probably tucked up in bed now).

Katie

Got my insanity workout in yesterday and today and today I ran!! 1 run down 2 to go.  Still have to get a bike ride and a swim in.  The swim will be on Sunday I'm not sure about the bike yet.... My manager keeps changing up the schedule at work and it throws me off.  I can't blame her though we're short staffed  and looking for new people and until then we're all just going to have to work extra hard.

Okay, have I completely missed something or am I just being very English but - What is an Insanity Workout?! Embarassed

Insanity Workout is 60 day total body conditioning interval training program where you perform long sets of high intensity exercises and take short rest periods. It's a DVD program through BeachBody (same people that produce P90X) and the trainer is Shaun T. It's a very hard workout.

Here's a video clip.

I think I'll do that one tonight, actually-- thanks! Cut out that 400 kick-- that would end the session right there for me, my kick is slow as anything. :-) And I think I'll trim a few yards to make it my usual 2200, have to work up to 3000. :-)

sorry to be so out of things this week...we are on vacation, or at least as much vacation as you can be on with a 2 and a 4 year old! ButbSaturday was my first tri of the season and it went great. I actually won my age group (I,d never even placed before this so I was pretty excited). the swim was indeed a serpentine pattern in 8 lanes with 100 of my closest friends kicking me. I wish I had pictures, it was like swimming in a shark tank!

Anyway, I am taking most of this week off, except for tag with my kids. Back to work next week...But then I'll only have 2 weeks before my Oly in Tempe. How much tapering do you all do before on Oly? before a sprint?

Jamie - how tired/sore do you feel now?  I would only taper ~3-4 days before your Oly, but I'd make it active tapering.  Perhaps do some quick/short intense intervals, so you get the blood pumping but not so much that it tires you out?  If you feel pretty worn out from your sprint race, then I'd take it a tiny bit easier.  Congrats on your podium!  Awesome!

Yay - Friday!  Who has big weekend plans?

Apparently I'm running the equivalent of a marathon over the next 3 days.... broken up by hour runs today and Saturday (2 x 1 hr runs, one in the AM, one in the PM) and then I have a 10 mile race on Sunday.  And there's some swimming and biking tossed in for good measure.  We shall see.... those 1 hr runs tomorrow may get cut down to 30 min.

No big plans this weekend. Just the long run Saturday or Sunday depending on the weather.

I got in another swim today. Yea! I found out that the local Y has an open community pool day on Fridays so I get to practice after my Tuesday lessons.

I do have a swim question. It's silly but I have to ask.

I use a swim cap and twice now my hair has gotten wet. Sometimes it rides up off my head and sometimes I'll be swimming along and I feel an air bubble forming. What is the correct way to put on a swim cap?

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I have to get my hair all wet first, before I put the cap on. Is that silly?

ugh, what a week.  Remember that high on Monday from my run?  Well, come Wednesday I had to call my hubby from work to deal with the kids as I was feeling ill.  Today I felt better so threw teh bike on the trainer for a short workout thinking I'd get a run in tonight and make up for my mid-week illness induced slump.  Well... my son managed to trip me and I have a skinned shin and tweaked toe.  My foot is not interested in being run upon.  Hopefully an evening of rest will find it healed and happy.

My hair is always wet after swimming.  I don't understand how people can keep hair dry when swimming.

Erin - Have fun with your 3part Mary this weekend!  Interesting taper - two hour long runs before a hour long race?!  LOL.  I suspect this is all part of your IM training, but looks silly from the couch-to-sprint perspective!

I need to go check out this Insanity y'all are loving.

Weekend plans - pool time with the family and laps for me.  Maybe a good run if my toe's tweaking is temporary.  Hopefully a bike ride.  We'll see how it plays out!

Cynthia
