Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge You're right, Kate, it has been quiet. Hope Scott's enjoying his vacation and Pam has a great marathon today. Way to get 5x running this week! I've yet to do over 4 but since that's the goal, I'll take it, especially since every mile is inside on the treadmill. Don't think I can muster another day in my workout room. We're a big football family so today I'll be in the kitchen making a lot of gameday food and taking a rest from exercise although I'll do some core work while watching the big game. We used to have Ravens season tickets when we lived in MD and our business writer's son is one of the coaches of the 49ers so we'll just be rooting for a good game. Pam should be about an hour into her marathon as I'm writing this. GO PAM!! Can't wait to hear how it goes. Sending good vibes out to you and to your hubby running the half. Hope everyone else has a super Sunday! |

It was ice all over outside. Today my husband stopped in to change his clothes because he fell getting out of his truck...thankfully, not injured, but I am not going out there...snow and cold don't stop me, but ice does. FWIW I do Jeff Galloway's training program and it is very doable. I am extremely slow, but this plan helps me to get it done and that's what I care the most about. I have done two marathons and am training for my third right now.
So glad your hubby wasn't hurt! I don't blame you for not going out in that dangerous stuff. When and where is your mary? Looking forward to hearing about it. My marathon is in June...in Iowa, the Run4Troops Marathon. Hope your marathon went well today! I am doing a half in March in Emmetsburg...they have a StPatricks day parade and everything, my roommate from college lives there and she lets me take an ice bath at her home afterwards |

Run #3 today 7.6 miles gonna do another 30 minutes...if I can muster up the energy Brenda, regarding the looped marathon. I did one before and really enjoyed it. We ran through a stadium and my family would cheer me on every time (5x) we went through. I think you will really like it.

Extreme Veteran 1222 Tallahassee, Florida | Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge Nichip, I have heard of the advantages of the ice bath but I'm just not gonna go it. I wouldn't run if I knew I had to do an ice bath afterwards. Can't wait to hear about our HM and mary. You girls are awesome! Thank you for cheering me on and I swear I felt it. At one point, I yelled Run Happy!!!!!!!!!! I barely Pr'ed but barely more than works for me. 4:47:53 where the last PR was 4:48:42 - but who's counting, right? Me, that's who. Beautiful day and I'm so glad to get it over and done. Tris, HM, and maybe ultras from now on but no more marys for me. Hubby did AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! ITB was getting him down and even yesterday he wasn't sure if he would even start. Killer negative splits - over1 min per mile faster on the return. Yay, Karl!!! Well Brenda, your Ravens took it. I was kinda cheering for SF but either way was fine with me. Love the miracle stain commercial. Edited by Pink Socks 2013-02-03 10:09 PM |

And so happy his ITB didn't cause him problems. Whoo Hooo for a wonderful day for you both!! Thanks for sharing your good news - it made me smile big. Now take a day or two off and bask in the glow of a run well done! |

But you know what, I forgot to report on my failure this week. Only 3 runs in. Total of 31.2 but I didn't get my tune up run yesterday. I'll try to get 4x next week but I think it's gonna be loooooowwwwww mileage. |

Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge How are you feeling now that the marathon is a few days behind you, Pam? I'm curious as to why you're dropping that distance from your event calendar? Thanks for sharing your experience with a looped course, Nichi. It's nice that they're spectator friendly and with mine being a one mile loop I can see folks 26 times! One of my friends was on the wait list and just found out she got moved up to a participant. She's going to try to BQ so it'll be fun cheering her on as she circles me. Don't know if any of you are from the NE but if you are, I hope you've got enough provisions to see you through in case winter storm Nemo hits as big as they say. I know Pam's safe down in sunny FL. I've got 3 runs in this week so far and am scheduled for a long 20 miler tomorrow. We're supposed to get freezing rain so I'll be on the treadmill. I'm loaded up with movies from the library so I should be good to go. Have a great weekend everyone! |

Extreme Veteran 1222 Tallahassee, Florida | Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge I'm failing miserably on everything this week! Both K and I (and my son) got sick this week so we have been doing next to nothing for most of the week. K is still feeling it. I'm gonna try to get some light running and biking in tomorrow. Brenda, so glad that you checked the schedule! I would have cried if I did 20 miles and 12 was on the schedule. As for why I'm dropping the marathon distance, well it's just not fun for me. Stupid probably but it's just me. I like the hard work that I have to put in for the HM. And I like the laid back atmosphere of ultras - speed isn't an issue there; it's only the distance. But marathons just don't seem to agree with me. I know that I jumped into them too quickly and my fitness level just isn't there for the mary - therefore I hate them. Make sense? Ok, everyone, keep up the good work. I'm slacking so I need everyone else to knock it out of the park. |

Member 432 Calgary, AB | Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge I'm here to make you all feel better. I'm basically on a two-week sabbatical from the challenge -- Disney was great but very chaotic with the kids -- impossible to find opportunities to run. And this week has been no better -- both work and home have gone through a spike of chaos (partially due to catching up from vacation!) However, I promised myself I wouldn't give up on the challenge -- so look forward to getting back in everyone's good graces! Scott. |

Ok, I'm in the same boat as Scott. I was one run short last week. This week.....ah I sucked. I think I got 2 runs for a whopping 5 miles. I planned on attempting to do a double today but first my son wanted me to play tennis with him. Then I spent 4+ hours at a rental house. Now I could go for a run or hop on the bike trainer but TBH, I'm into my 2nd glass of wine and a nice like bath in on the menu. I'm sorry I did so bad this week. On a different note, Kate is the stealth bomber on the 1000 mile challenge. She is passing them left and right and I bet she will pass me next week. While I hate to get passed...all I can say is Attagirl! You are working hard and I'm proud of you. |

Extreme Veteran 1222 Tallahassee, Florida | Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge Hope everyone had a good week and a good Valentine's Day! I'll report in now because I know that I'm not going to make myself go run today in the cold after spending 5 hours in the cold and wind for son's baseball games yesterday. I've got 5 sessions in this week for 12.55 miles. Notice I said sessions instead of "runs". One was a walk at work to get away from it all and another was a walk yesterday before son's game; I wasn't wearing proper gear for a run but decided to I could walk. Happy training to everyone this week! |

Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge Welcome back, Scott! No worries on the sabbatical. Having a fun family vacation trumps any requirement on BT. Congratulations on killing the 1000 mile challenge, Kate. That number is too intimidating for me. Way to rock it. You were active 5x, Pam, so it doesn't matter what you call it. I like the word "sessions", though. Hope your son did well in his baseball games and his team, too. I got in my 4x this week - with one of those being my 20 miler. And guess what?! I was able to do it outside so do a happy dance with me. That was HARD but I know I gained some confidence that I can at least complete a road marathon. The last 6 miles will probably be really ugly, but baring an injury, I should be able to cross the finish line with a smile which is my goal. I got my first run of the week in this morning and will do my second tomorrow morn. My kids have the day off so I plan on getting up early and getting it done before they get up. How's it going for you, Nichi? Have a nice Monday President's Day (for us U.S. citizens) everyone! |

Expert 1951 | Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge Wow Brenda 20 miles! Fantastic, I'm dying once I reach 10. Awesome! Did you do all the running alone? That's an issue for me. I get a bit stir crazy. Great job Pam in getting 5x in. I'd planned for 5 but only managed 4. Did more riding on my bike last week. This week is scheduled as a recovery week with overall less mileage so your husband will prolly pass me in the 1000 mile challenge. Tell him he needs a recovery week:=) Have a Monday everyone. |

Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge Yes, Kate, those were all solo miles. I live in a small community and don't know anyone who runs a slow pace like me that's able to get out during the day. I think that's why I really like races - because there's people out there with me. This week was a lower mileage one and I got all 4x done. Hope everyone is having a happy running week! |

Got off to a late start this week, but finished #1 yesterday and #2 this evening. Will need to hit 4 days straight but I can do it! Weather is starting to get a bit warmer (in patches) here -- may be able to start shifting a few runs outdoors here and there... ETA: 20 miles?!?!? I have trouble biking that far... Well done! Scott. I have to run most of my long runs solo too. Good and bad to it. I must say tho, I love looking at your logs because you tell what movies or which books you have on while on the trainer or the treadmill. I don't do TM (way too spaz and fall off) but now I've started doing a movie or a book while on the trainer. Thanks for that suggestion! Do you have one more 20 before taper? 3 runs done and I'll do out tomorrow and get one more. I thought I was recovering last Thursday night because I had a great run. But then today's run just slapped me down. Bleh. |

Extreme Veteran 1222 Tallahassee, Florida | Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge Great job Kate!!!! I'm so proud of you. I hate to do this but I'm going to step out of the challenge. I'm not getting my time in, my PF is hurting, and my mojo is gone. All will be fine soon, I know, because this comes in ebbs and tides but right now I want to step back from "have to" and hopefully my body will "want to". I'll still come back here to check on all of you tho! |

Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge 4X straight - Yeah, Scott! That IS tough on the body. Hope you're able to spread them out this week. And 6 times for you, Kate is VERY impressive! I see you're doing a HIM the day after I do my marathon and that's why our taper weeks are the same. Have you done an HIM before? I see you're an active member of BT so I assume you're experienced. Pam, Pam - I totally understand about missing the mojo, especially after completing an event that I really trained for. You set a PR in your marathon and that's awesome and now your body wants a break. I get that. Relax and have fun and hopefully you'll come back strong. It was nice connecting with you. I had the longest mileage week I've ever had - 40.2 miles (5, 10, 20.2, 5) ! ALL of them were on my treadmill and I actually enjoyed most of them while watching movies. We had snow and sleet and then slush so the roads just weren't safe to be on. Oh Spring, where art thou? On a side note, my sweet hubby and I just celebrated 31 years of marriage. He took me out to my favorite restaurant last night and I indulged in an amazing lobster bisque, salad, Delmonico steak cooked to perfection with mashed potatoes, asparagus and carrot cake to top it off. I know I gained a couple pounds but, yum, was it worth it! I took today off as a rest day, too, so I'm really in trouble. Did we lose Nichi somewhere? Have a great week everyone! |

Member 432 Calgary, AB | Subject: RE: Running 4x a week till the Easter Bunny Comes Challenge Just completed #4 which was a long one for me (12 km / 7.5 mi). Managed to avoid 4 days in a row this time! Yesterday it got warm enough to run outside -- knocked a minute off my best 5K time.
Kate -- 6 runs is just too much dedication. Well done! Brenda -- congrats on the 20-miler -- assume this is the last big run before the marathon? Also congrats on 31 years! Though I must say, when my wife and I hit #31, we're totally celebrating with Baskin Robbins... Pam -- sorry to hear about the injuries - take care of yourself. Scott |
