Just made reservations at Country Inn and Suites in Kenosha.  How is the drive from Kenosha to Racine?  Pretty much everything in Racine was booked except the Marriot which is like $170 a night and the Comfort Inn which is normally $80 they jacked up their prices to $150.

Not bad, 35 minutes or so.  better than paying crazy expensive hotel prices i guess right?

I haven't made up my mind yet which is worse paying crazy prices or making the drive.  No way I pay $150 for Comfort Inn but I'm tempted to pay the $170 for the Marriott the only kicker is it is a 2 night minimum.

I've done about that far away when traveling to races and it's been fine. I was on my own and tend to keep things simple though.

@WillTriForBeer - Got to try the Pliney the Younger (and Elder) at Falling Rock this past weekend.  AMAZING!  Lots of other beers too.  high Gravity + High altitude was not fun tho...

I gotta give props to my trainer Eric Hatch at Iron Mountain Guru.  He's got me in a pretty darn good program.  Very organized and always available for questions.

AHHH...March in Michigan.  Can't wait for the ground to thaw and the roads to clear so I can GET OFF THE TRAINER!!!!!

How is everyone doing with their plan? Is has anyone done an HIM before but is trying something very different in terms of a training plan for this year?  Just curious.

I'm not totally committed to this race yet but about 95% sure I'm going to sign up.  I've already made hotel reservations so I'm pretty sure I'm going to sign up.  I just like waiting as long as I can to sign up for races because you never know when injuries or other things pop up that prevent me from making a race.  I did my first 70.3 last year at Redman in Oklahoma City.  I used Finks Iron Fit plan last year and plan on doing the same this year.

Hi Guppie, training is going good so far (just under 20 weeks to go!). I did Cross Fit for my off season workout. I really like it, but am going to go back to my S/B/R now, especially as it gets warmer. I say this right after I got done shoveling my driveway!

I am also going to try Bikram Yoga once a week. I have never done Yoga, but my flexibility needs help! Anyone tried it before?

Hi Rob-   Nice to see so many familiar faces back this year

I am completely done with the snow Rob!!!!  I think we got 22 inches in the last two weeks.  The upside is shoveling is an additional workout for us right??

Just wanted to tell anyone interested (or needing to plan) that the TriWi group that sponsors the ride of the race route has posted their Racine date of June 29th.  It's really great that they do this and a nice way to get the entire route in with a few aid stations too.

Oh and we change clocks this weekend too. So full of good news today!

My previous 3 HIM have been more about working on my overall endurance and one was used as training race for IMWI.  This year Racine is my "A" race and I am working on my speed.  I have been using the Trainer Road program for my biking and really like it and have seen huge improvements.  It has convinced me to train and race with power.  Can't wait to get out on the road to test out results.

Hello all!

This will be my first offical HIM but I have done a HIM-distance event before (The Pigman).  Anyway just wondering if I will need a wetsuit with full arms or if my sleeveless wetsuit will do. A little nervous about swimming in Lake Michigan. TIA

Hi Julie,
Sleeved or sleeveless all depends on the conditions that day. I've done the race 4 times...2 times sleeveless, 2 with sleeves. One time (2008 ... when it was still the Spirit of Racine), I also wore two silicon swim caps and the race cap. Water temp was 51 degrees.

The two times w/ sleeveless, the water temps were about 66-68.

Lake Michigan can be a teddy bear or it can be a grizzly bear. I'm not 100% sure, but I doubt the water temps will ever be much higher than 68. Other folks on the site can confirm/deny that. :-)

So...my take is that a long sleeve wetsuit will not hurt ya' from a temp perspective.

Hope that helps!
Cyndi

The next 50*+ weather I plan on getting on the course.  Anyone in for a quick 25 bike ride when that happens.  I will keep the thread updated on the meeting time, date and place.  Get them bikes ready imo.

Good afternoon, I signed up for my first 70.3 at Racine, and was reading you comment on sleeveless or non sleeveless wetsuits.  I have a sleeveless, do they make arm warmers to wear during the swim just in case the water temp is colder then normal?  Thanks  Andrew

Rob,

That's absolutely unbelievable that you saw that! Thanks for sharing. This definitely is very motivating. Getting out on the bike will be great! We need a warm up. Are you planning on doing the TRI Wisconsin ride again this year?

Thanks Rob, that was fun.  Made my stomach get all nervous looking at race day morning though

Hi Andrew, welcome!  I don't know if there are sleeves you can add but I wouldn't think they'd keep you too warm.  The coldest part about the sleeveless to me is int he armpit area where water comes in cooling your core and I don't know that sleeves would help there sorry.  If it ends up the water temps are so cold that you would prefer a long sleeve there are alot of places that rent them for the weekend.  Hope that helps!

Amy

Hi Cyndi & Amy, watching that video makes me feel like it's Summer Time and the race in this coming weekend!

I am definitely planning on the Tri Wisconsin Rides (Racine & WI Ironman). My plan is to volunteer this year, and then sign up for the Wisconsin Ironman 2014! (Crazy, lol).

You should come to Madison for the ride May 25th, it'll be good training for Racine. Plus, we'll be on the Big Boy Course I hear that there are lots of hills!!!  (but just one loop, not the whole 112)

Rob

Rob,
We'll be joining you for the volunteering this year and IMWI next! YIKESSS

I'd have to put my big-girl pants on to ride the route on May 25th. The bike is my weakest link, so need to build up to handle all those hills and all the turns (heard it's very technical).

Can't wait for Spring!!

Hi Rob- We have the same plan for 2014, all things going as planned!  Remind us closer to the May date for that ride and we can plan for it.

128 days and counting!

Go a little farther west if you want some "Big Boy" stuff. Wink The IM Wisconsin course will seem more tame after that.
