Member 16 Boise Idaho | Subject: RE: TriForrestTri & Blackbud's Group - FULL Hey everyone- Thanks for the kind words on my workouts. I got the official sideline from the Dr. and have been on the slow trip to recovery since. It started out as the standard head cold that I attacked with vit C. Well last weekend it developted into a double ear infection (the first one i ever remeber having.) It went on until the build up of pressure burst. The pressure was gone but so has been my balence. To top it off I really can't hear that well now and I am not pronoucing my 'b's' of all letters. My wife keeps asking me to say the word NUMBER because I just skip right over the letter b in the word and I guess it sounds completly funny. I am glad I can entertain. the Dr. totally sidelined me for the week. So here is funny haha major issue I have now to top it. My race I was planning for on the 17th is now actually on the 10th. Ha Ha .....Yeah how does that happen. the page where I found thr race advertised it as the 17th and linked me to their website that clearly said the 10th but being the Dumb A%$ that I am I didn't double check it and register. I happen to be bumping around another site that advertised the race as well for the 10th. I went and double checked to my amazment that it is the 10th. I am seriously concerned about the race being to much for me next week. I still plan on going through the race but with even less expectation on it. I am jonesing for a workout.... |

Pro 3715 AZ | Subject: RE: TriForrestTri & Blackbud's Group - FULL Hey Alex! Wow...you make my cold seem like nothing!!!! Sorry to hear your cold spun out of control like that and became much worse!! Makes me think of a story.....when my son was little he developed an ear infection that then developed into mastoiditis (sp?). It's where the infection goes into the bone behind your ear, and it actually makes your ear stick out from your head. WAY out. Totally freaky looking! Dr's and nurses kept coming into his room to see it, as they usually only see it in text books. But with IV antibiotics and 3 days in the hospital he was all better. Totally weird seeing his ear stick out of his head like that!!! As for your race, I think you should still do it. Of course, you are not going to want to go all out and be a mad man, but even if you just go an a slower pace and go through the motions just to sort of cut your teeth on the whole Tri experience, it will be worth it. I have done a Sprint Tri and a half mary while having monster colds, and I did really well and was so glad I went through with them. Of course, I am not really right in the head, so you might not want to follow my lead. Heehee! Hope you get better FAST! |

Subject: RE: TriForrestTri & Blackbud's Group - FULL Hey all I have not been hiding, my work schedule can get very hectic. Then I did not feel well for a week before my hectic work schedule, and then my wife had the flu for 3 days after my hectic work schedule, and then my youngest got it and then now my 3 year old has it. STAY AWAY FROM MY HOUSE!!!! I still have not smoked, haven't craved it at all. I am going to switch up my training to start doing it in the morning because nights have been crazy around here. Hope things are well out there. Ian |

Member 16 Boise Idaho | Subject: RE: TriForrestTri & Blackbud's Group - FULL So bad news for me on Saturday. I filled out a race report even though the race didn't last long for me. Basically the story goes like this. My ear infection caused my ear drum to burst during the swim. I was stopped by my lane counter and noticed blood running out of my left ear. I decided that was not a good sign since I have never had blood run out of my ears before. So 10 laps in I pulled from the race. I was really embereced leaving the pool area gathering up my junk. I had gone to check with my Doctor to make sure I was good to go on the race. He told me the pool wouldn't effect my ear at all. He was dead wrong. The pressure of the water pushed that ear over the edge. My hearing is actually better right now then before but that is due to the junk in there being cleared. So rather then doing any training today I am going to spend the time looking for a new Doctor.... Edited by happy2202 2007-02-12 9:28 AM |

Especially when it was your first race! This was NOT how it was supposed to go! Hope you find a better Dr, and are not afraid to try another race soon!! Member 16 Boise Idaho | Subject: RE: TriForrestTri & Blackbud's Group - FULL You will do great..... So I am trying to balance things out. There is a nice small sprint the first weekend in April that I am considering. April 19th through the 28th I am on a cruise so I am tring to play with the schedule from there. I am plan on running everyday on the cruise but I don't know about getting a swim or bike in. I am basically trying to decide how much that will effect my training and how soon afterwards I should be ready for another sprint. I am sure you guys can feel my pain of having to deal with a cruise right in the middle of my training.... Also I made plans with a buddy to drive up to and watch the Coeur d'Alene Ironman. This is a qualifier for Kona. It appears there is some big names entered and I thought it might be interesting to go watch. CDA is about 7 hours north or a cheep 1 hour Southwest flight. We will run up Saturday Morning and watch on Sunday. |

Pro 3715 AZ | Subject: RE: TriForrestTri & Blackbud's Group - FULL I was on a 7 day cruise last year about a month into my training. I think I ran 5 of those days around the track at the top of the ship. I think it took 5 laps to make a mile. It was VERY hot and windy!!! Also, I never took the elevator. Always the stairs. I figured it would help combat all the food I was eating. I took one spin class, but it was a joke. Watching IM should be cool! Have fun! |

Member 16 Boise Idaho | Subject: RE: TriForrestTri & Blackbud's Group - FULL Hey guys tell me a little about bricking. Here is what I understand. I think of it as a "scrimmage". You do a portion of a tri or recreate a whole tri including transitions for practice and to simulate an event. Is this correct? Do any of you do this? How often do you do this? |

I am basically trying to decide how much that will effect my training and how soon afterwards I should be ready for another sprint. I am sure you guys can feel my pain of having to deal with a cruise right in the middle of my training.... Look, we're all friends here. If you want to rub in the fact that you're going on a cruise, then just do it Something like, "I can't wait to go on this cruise. There will be sunshine every day, I'll be waited on hand and foot. I may even sprning big for a couple of massages. Unfortunately, the rest of you will be shoveling snow and slaving away on your trainers after you get home from a hard day's work. Yup, it sure will be nice while I'm on this cruise." Seriously though, training while you're on the cruise has it's pluses and minuses. You will be pretty limited to running on the treadmill and riding a stationary bike. Swimming may actually be very difficult. The pools on cruis ships are pretty small. On the plus side, you'll have time to take advantage of the excersise facilities. If you stop at a port somewhere, I'd definitely try and get in a swim in the ocean, just be sure you have someone out there w/ you in a kayak or something in case you come across a rip tide. Most importantly, have fun!!!! But not too much fun

Pro 3715 AZ | Subject: RE: TriForrestTri & Blackbud's Group - FULL I practiced my transitions with my coach before my first Tri, but then after that, pretty much every race is good practice. For me Bricks are just about training your body to get used to how it feels to bike RIGHT after swimming, or running right after biking....which is the most difficult. Your legs are like rubber, and it's a total mental battle to push through it. It's best to get used to this while training so can get through it in your race. Also, like you said, it more closely simulates what actually happens when you race, by linking at least two of the disciplines together. I am actually supposed to do a bike/run brick today. Joy! |

Pro 3715 AZ | Subject: RE: TriForrestTri & Blackbud's Group - FULL Oh, and Ben is just SUPER jealous of you and your cruise. See, he lives in that place where "Winters aren't really that bad. It's our little secret. Everyone THINKS Denver gets snow all winter long, but we don't. It's really nice here year around. Shhhhhh! Don't tell anyone! We don't want outsiders to find out and move here!" ....and in his head he is hearing himself say this to other people in the past as he is shoveling his drive for the 15th time this winter. Hee, hee. Sunny at 70 today in Phoenix! :-)
