I've read somewhere that with the Polar HRM, that if you push the buttons while in the water, it can malfunction. I have no problems with the ironman watch however. |

Member 52![]() ![]() Pearland, TX | Subject: RE: Drewwhite's Mentoring Group - ClosedI agree. I used my polar in the pool, and it was bulky, the HRM functions didn't work right, and I also saw the warnings about pushing buttons underwater being bad. The Timex Ironman Triathlon bottom of the line watch is relatively inexpensive and VERY durable and functional without all the bulk of the Polar. Here's the link to the one I have on Amazon, and it's under $25. They come in all colors. http://www.amazon.com/Timex-Womens-Ironman-Triathlon-T5B721/dp/B000... Jamie |

I would be concerned about ruining my HRM. I use a Nike Running Watch. They're pretty nice and very affordable. In addition, there are times that I don't use my HRM when I'm running. When I don't run with my HRM, I don't want to wear the bulky watch that goes with it; that's what my Nike watch is for. |

As I go longer my form breaks down I end up going with 3 strokes and then alternate sides I breathe on. Does that sound ok? That's just fine. It honestly depends upon what is most comfortable for you. Personally, I breathe every 3 strokes for my entire workout. I would recommend that you make sure that you're comfortable breathing out of your left side as well because you may be forced to breathe from that side in a tri because of the water conditions, sun, and layout of the course. |

So I checked it out and ended up buying my first TRI Suit. I think I got a good deal it was originally priced at $94 and it was marked down to $64. Here's the question am I really suposed to go out in public in this thing???!!!! I feel like I'm wearing my wrestling uniform from High School! I supose I want have time to feel self conscious when I'm racing, but whoa! I better train hard because this thing is bright orange and I will stick out like a sore thumb if I'm at the end of the pack! |

I love it. It's so, so comfortable to swim and bike and run in. Well I suppose it's meant to be. I did feel so stupid at 1st but when you see everyone else in one you just laugh it off. hehehe. |

Regular 83![]() ![]() ![]() Crowley, TX | Subject: RE: Drewwhite's Mentoring Group - ClosedI bought my first tri suit back in Jan. and the spare tire looked funny. I just put it on once a month and it made me work out harder and eat better, just so I wouldn't look so fat in it. However, a lot of other people will be wearing them and no one will pay you any mind. If you want to ever get rid of it, I'm a large, and orange is my favorite color. |

You'll likely see people dressed in even more radical clothing than an orange tri suit.  Around here I've noticed that orange is a common color in triathlon.  I had an orange tri suit for a while.  This was before I had lost the 25 pounds.  My wife called me a pumpkin |

Member 50![]() ![]() Brookfield | Subject: RE: Drewwhite's Mentoring Group - ClosedWell I got home and tried on my new TRI Suit. My wife kind of laughed and said "it looks good honey." My kids loved it and said it looked kind of like Mr. Incredible's super hero outfit. I told them the same lady that gave Mr. Incredible his gave me mine. So, I'm sticking with that and wearing it loud and proud on race day! Also your support and reassurance that I won't be the only wearing my old High School Wrestling uniform on race day. Thanks for the confidence. No races this weekend just a 97 minute bike and a 48 minute run. What are your feelings on BRICK workouts? Do you do them? When should you start in relation to your race and what events do you try to incorporate? Swim Bike, Bike Run, etc... |

Member 52![]() ![]() Pearland, TX | Subject: RE: Drewwhite's Mentoring Group - ClosedBricks are great. Particularly bike-run bricks, because your legs feel SO weird when you transition from bike to run, and you have to get used to it. I can't feel my legs for about the first mile of my run after biking hard, and I feel like I'm moving in slow motion with weights on my ankles. If you practice it a few times, you get a better feeling for how to manage your pace until you "get your groove back." I like the "Mr. Incredible" comparison. Mine's a blue (to match my bike) top with black shorts, and it's kind of like a pair of favorite sneakers. Over time we've grown into each other, and now I can't find another one that feels like it fits. I think most of us look better tucked up on the bikes in these outfits than we do standing around the house. |

Elite 3494![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Renton, Washington | Subject: RE: Drewwhite's Mentoring Group - ClosedI absolutely hate bricks. LOL. Especially bike to run. I always feel like I'm drunk. Weird. The last tri I did I actually spent a few seconds holding onto the bike and bending down and up a few times. My legs felt pretty ok after that and I managed to run for a bit before lazy bum here had to stop. Swimming to bike for me is worse because I ALWAYS feel so dizzy after getting out the lake/pool. Strangest thing. This is the tri suit I bought from ebay. The only difference is, where the stripes are black on the top part mine are silver. It was last years model. I got it for about $40 including shipping. They really are great for speeding up transitions. (e5af_1.JPG) Attachments ---------------- e5af_1.JPG (14KB - 27 downloads) |
